A member of this forum who was visiting the pop up RAM stand yesterday witnessed a vehicle strike a koala and failed to stop whilst driving back to the country home..
Our forum friend did stop and rescued the injured koala and they are hoping to get it to a vet today as they tried yesterday an no vet available.
Here is the little one they rescued:

Thanks for uploading the photo Bruce.
The koala is booked in at 6pm tonight for surgery.
A Koala expert from Wagga is currently on their way to operate on him tonight. The vet and expert are doing the operation and care for free. It normally costs a fortune but because of their passion for the koalas we are lucky. Our local vet has not had to do surgery on a koala before so it is all new to them.
He is booked into a rehabilitation place near us and when is well enough to be released will be released at our place.

Good on ya Jenny, should be more people like you.
There is a great hospital & rehab center up here.
koala Hospital (http://www.koalahospital.org.au/)
We often call in there, always buy something & leave the change, the people who volunteer are so dedicated & generally nice people.
Lotsa Karma to you Jenny. Hope it is alright & survives the operation.
Good on you Jen!
I am glad you stopped to help.
I stop to help animals too, although nothing as special as a koala.
The last one was a while ago now. A long neck turtle that had been clipped by a car.
It had a few cracks in its shell that were bleeding, but the vet found someone good to look after it and the prognosis was good.
I once stopped in the country Victoria far a "small eagle". It too had been struck by a car.
Picked it up and took it too the vets in Maryborough and they took it in.
Several days later I went back and was informed that it had died.
Pity as the small eagle were endangered at that point of time and I guess that they still are.
The operation was successful.
Unfortunately when they shaved him a scar from a previous car accident was visible. Apparently he was released back about 2 weeks ago and he is a re offender. He weighed a whopping 12.5kg. The heaviest they have seen for a while.
Thanks to everyone for your concerns.
A great result Jen, Well done Mate :good:
No Koala's in my neck of the woods only roo's, emu's, Cattle, sheep and goats.
I sometimes come across an animal that has catastrophic injuries in remote areas due the a car/truck encounter and sadly all I can do for the poor buggers is to euthanize them.
Luckily for your Koala there was help available and its injuries were not too severe, A great result :yahoo:
We were lucky to have a dedicated vet who travelled to Sale from Wagga Wagga and picked up a colleague at Albury. As soon as they finished the operation ( 15 minutes ) they were back in the car home again to do another operation at 11am tomorrow in Wagga Wagga.
They are very dedicated vets. No vets locally knew what to do or didn't want to. We were told the easy option was to euthanize the koala but we wouldn't take that as an option. We were prepared to look after the koala until help arrived.
Great work Jen! :good:
Thank-you for being a part of team koala rescue
Xxxxx
I wonder if he finds the road a cosy warm place to be during this long cold winter. ?
Good on you Jen, you're a Koala
Let us know how he goes at Rehab. If he keeps straying onto the road, he may need to be released into a reserve where roads are few and far between.
I remember when I was living in Canberra that kangaroos were always get hit by cars - even near the CBD. Unfortunately, they were always dead by the time I found them. :(
Being in the bush, we always check any hit ones for Joeys. We've had one so far that had a nice sized joey, albeit still without fur, that was still going. He/She had a bit of bruising to the head but was all good down my shirt on the way to town. Dropped the bub off at the vet and they got the local Wires group in. Oddly enough we only watched the video of Bub on Mrs Uni's mobile the other day ..... she never uses it as mobile reception here isn't that great.
Thanks for that, Uni. I never thought of checking them for joeys. I'll try to remember that in future. :good:
You can follow the progress on facebook or here.

Also he is not the koala that was released a couple of weeks ago as after checking the photos the ears are different.
He had the same scare as the other koala and also a scare above his nose.
When the last koala was released they had no micro chips to tell but when the koalas are released, so from now one they are going to microchip them so they know if they go back to the vets and track their activity.
Sad news this morning that the koala passed away last night.
Gee that's so sad :cray:
Sad,.
Yes, very sad news.
That's a shame.

You gave it more of a chance than it had if it had just been left on the side of the road.
Feel pleased that you helped it.
That is awful news Jen, Poor little Bugger.
You did your best for the poor little devil Mate, But unfortunately our native animals are hard to recue from road trauma sadly. :(
Sorry to hear that Jen.
Awww.. :(
