Title: Scratched Uncirculated Monaro 50c Coin
Post by: Dogma on May 04, 2017, 11:33:09 AM
Hi All,

I just purchased the subject coin and when i received it i noticed what looks like a scatch and some imperfections on its surface. The scratch is middle of the coin towards left edge and the imperfections are around the years at the bottom of the coin. I contacted the mint and they are happy to exchange it. My question is does these sort of coin issues add value or decrease value of the coin. My thoughts are that these coin issues would decrease value but I thought I would check.

Thanks,

Dogma

If the issues are post minting damage such as a scratch it decreases its value, best to return it for an unaffected coin. If its a planchet flaw or minting error then there are collectors out there who like that sort of thing (not sure why) and will likely pay a premium.

Send it back to RAM they will replace it
I sent my Legends set back which had no $1 coin in it and was happy for the replacement, couldn't see the point in having a set that was probably an error set that certain eBay grubs would list and ask a fortune for it
