I picked these up from the bank today a very nice teller gave them to me, in very good condition apart from a few creases & centre fold, ordinary circulation notes but the one dollar note has an interesting serial number.

Ha!
Do you just go in and ask whether they have any old paper notes?
You just pay face value I assume?
It wouldn't be legal for a bank to charge more than face value, but collectors can do whatever they want. ;)

That's exactly what I do.
Yes face value.
Maybe I might try my local bank and see what happens.
I guess in the long run they can only say no

No never seen her before, but there was a long wait & everyone was very impatient & a bit cranky, except me who made her smile. That's when I asked.

Everyone was cranky probably because you took ages flirting with her.

Nice ones Interest!! You've obviously established a great relationship with the teller!! :good:
Great pick-ups Interest (especially the AB10). :ok:
Pedro
Received a phone call from Chrissy at the bank telling me she has saved some old paper note for me.
There was no way I could so no after her thoughtfulness in saving them or I didn't know what could be there.
So I picked up $56.00 worth, I mean they are not very good, but hey one day something special might come in,
plus it's a form of saving.

You never knock back anything they save for you as if you knock it back they wont save it for you next time.
Just come to Gulgong Saturday week and you will have no trouble selling the paper $10 notes for a good premium at the Henry Lawson festival. Especially now that stages 2 and 3 of the Holtermann Museum (https://gulgong.com.au/listing/gulgong-holtermann-museum/) are expected to be open -one of the buildings that is on those notes is part of the museum and has been restored.
Oh, an eight hour drive (each way) for you!

Exactly. I'm always grateful.

Been to Gulgong, back in the sixties we spent a long weekend in Sofala & Gulgong.
Looking for gold & rabbit shooting.
Got a few rabbits.
I remember Gulgong vividly we had our photos taken there just like we were on the ten dollar note, remember it being really cool to do that.
I have had calls from my favourite teller when something has come in that she thinks I might like.
I always call in quickly and express gratitude and sometimes she has come up with some nice stuff.
Years ago, when I lived in Narrabri I often passed through Gulgong on the way to Sydney (usually late on Friday night). I had two strong impressions; very narrow streets and every second building in the centre of town was a pub (or originally a pub). Moving here confirmed those impressions -in fact we have five pubs still operating in a town with population of 2,500.
My main impressions now are;
•it is a lovely town to live in if you prefer not to live in a big place (but still be not too far away from regional centres with all the facilities).
•Full of lovely people and a very strong community spirit. OK a few ratbags and eccentrics but, in my opinion, that only adds to the charm.
•Governments and big businesses don't really car about places like this and make decisions based only on votes and the 'bottom line'; quality of life (ours, not theirs) is not a consideration. [I know, that sounds too cynical by far but I would think not many people in regional areas of this country would disagree.]

As long as you got them at face value, I wouldn't worry about the condition. Most of my generation has never actually seen a paper Australian banknote before, let alone tried to buy one, so it should be very easy to resell them. :winkextra:
Picked this lot up from the bank today, lovey lady named Chrissy always saves old notes for me.

Awesome mate
Went to my Bank of Queensland branch today to withdraw some cash and this is one of the notes I was given.

Nice one Barry! :yahoo:
Nice notes al around. Well done to you all.
Found a nice radar $50 in the banking yesterday morning.
Didn't have $50 to swap it out, so it went to the bank.
From the bank today I picked up along with some one & two dollar notes nothing of any worth.
But these two twenty's strange combination for somebody to keep,
The last of, & the first of.
it's a real pity they aren't uncirculated but they do show a fair bit of wear.

picked up some old paper notes from the bank today:
$100 notes x 26
$50 notes x 15
$20 notes x 10
$5 note x 1
$2 notes x 50
$1 notes x 22
Some of the $1 & $2 are Commonwealth of Australia

Make sure you check signatures and serials carefully in case the is the odd scarce one.

I got these from the bank today. Any value in them other than face value also, do I have the first or second run on the aboriginal notes?

I am not into notes but got a call from my local bank re the above notes so help is required.
Don't remember off the top of my head but the first $10 might be a keeper?
The others all look like face value but I don't know if there are any first or last prefixes there.
I have decided to keep the Aboriginal notes and cash in the others as they were a wee bit tatty and torn and some very well creased.
That was certainly a lovely bunch Goldie! :good:
Went into the bank today to be totally blown away.
The teller called me over & said she had a thousand dollars worth of old ten dollar notes would I like them.
WOW!!! Can I have a look please.
they got them out of the safe for me to look at I could not believe my eyes.
Here was a thousand dollars worth of JOHNSTON / FRASER notes from 1985.
So the thing is, it wasn't a bundle lots of bad notes lots of very good notes
There were no first or last signatures
It could not happen randomly to collect a HUNDRED NOTES & they all be the same signatures, it must have been from a collector
who for whatever reason collected JOHNSTON / FRASER notes.
I asked if they came back with anything else to please give me a ring.
I went through them all & took ten notes

Yeah,from me as well.
Someone's collection by the looks of things.
Golfing friends wife does volunteer work for a local Charity shop and they have coin/note collections amongst the donations every so often.Unfortunately they have a strict rule that all money has to go to the Bank,if they don't accept it for whatever reason it is sent to a Sydney Dealer for valuation/sale.
Yeah , thanks guys.
The only similarities apart from the signatures is that all the notes started with a "U" prefix.
I reckon whoever had these notes also had an acute OCD.
Good find Interest
I wish I had a teller like yours - she really looks after you
Top work Interest! :good:
