I have seen bags of 2017 Anzac $1 coins on eBay in bags of 10 coins, similar to how the changeover coins were released in clear mint bags.
Where and when did these come about?
Popup shop somewhere I believe
The Easter show has just commenced .... I'll report back after Good Friday

Pop up shop in Orange last Thursday & then Maitland this weekend the 8th & 9th, also had counterstamped 2017 Railway $1.00.
cost of counterstamp was $10.00
cost of 2017 Anzac $1.00 was $10.00 swap
I'm beginning to wish that the Trans-Australian Railway went through Brisbane, because I'd love to get my hands on some 2017 ANZAC dollars. Then I'll only need the 2018 ones to complete the set. :D
Thankyou for the information guys. I guess its my own fault for not being as attentive as I could have been. Now I am aware, I shall be watching for dates closer to my area.
thanks again
These are available from the mint shop now in bags of 10 for $10.
You can order up to 3 bags per order.

Are there other denominations available as well? Or just $1 (and the colour ANZAC $2)?
Thanks.
What a bummer! I had just ordered some $2 baggies then I saw this link. probably could have purchased some of these at the same time for the same $10 postage fee.
Who else is reading Australian-coins.net whilst standing in the line waiting for the Canberra mint to open?
The forecast said 22 and cloudy. It's 14 and rainy!

That's why I am trying to find out if there are other denominations bags too. I am bit worried that if I wait the $2 baggies will be sold out.
so you can get bags of 5 x $2 lest we forget coins now as well i see on the ram site..limit of 3.

Call them up and ask them to add to the order?
Tried that but aren't answering the phone until Monday. Will call them first thing then.
Well I drove from Sydney, lined up and got my allotment (maximum 3 bags).
Was going to line up a second time and get another 3 bags of 2017 ANZAC and 3 bags of lest we forget, but I was able to time the line based on people I saw arriving when I was going through. It was over an hour in the queue, so I thought "bugger it, I'll pay the $10 postage and get another 3 bags online". My time on Saturday is worth more than $10 am hour.
Got talking to a nice guy in the car park, and lamented that I am happy to order the lest we forget's online, however I can't get more of the 2017 ANZAC bags. He said "I've got an extra 5 you can have at face value if you want?".
Kaching!
Awesome day out. Saved over an hour, and I'm happy to spend $10 delivery to get the ANZAC's.
Thanks mysterious man in the car park with the Ford Ranger. I'm guessing you're a member here, so please come forward and get the recognition you deserve for helping me out.

Yeah, I think they are the only ones too. For the coin swap in RAM today they only have these two plus the changeover coins, which we have done already. It's good of them to offer this online for those outside of Canberra. :good:

When I bought the coloured $2 bags yesterday afternoon, I checked the website carefully, and the $1 bags weren't up then. I wish the mint had put them both up at the same time so I wouldn't have to pay for postage twice. Nevertheless, I'm thinking of using Trout's advice to make the best of a bad situation (which you can find on another thread).
If your coins haven't been shipped then phone the RAM and get them to add the other coins to your order. If they don't then cancel that order for a refund then reorder them.
Thanks, Jen. I'll think about it over the weekend. I actually quite like the idea of getting another 3 bags of coloured $2 coins (in addition to the ones I bought yesterday) when I place my order for the $1 coins, but seeing that I've already bought an entire mint roll of them (my first mint roll ever), I think I might be overdoing it a little. :good:
Where do you get the mint rolls from?
Local bank?

You can get them from RAM's "Pet" dealers for $99.95 a pop :dodgy:
Or maybe our Mr Cotton will have some made up in the black hologram rolls

Some dealers have them. Downies and Wynyard but they have all sold out. I have purchased previous year's ANZAC rolls from Sydney Coins & Jewellery so they might have them too. Expect to pay x2 face unlike the RAM baggies.

You might as well if you are placing another order. Can't go wrong with paying face value right?
I didn't make it down
Had a special only daughter visiting from Melbourne
But the hubby went down and waiting in the line for about an hour
So he hot the standard 3 colored $2 bags and the Anzac $1 bags - 3 of each
So he kindly gave me a bag of each
Apparently earlier in the day the line was even longer.
Probably most up.on ebay by now
I might have to order some from the shop
He also said that when he got to the counter there were no $1 2016 and only 1 ten cents per customer
Ahhhh ... bugger. I said give me as much of each one as I can.
The girl said "that'll be $135.10"
I said "well put the 10c back to make it an even $135"
Doh. Didn't realise the 10c was a single unit. There was so many bags of things, I lost track of what I was doing.
I assumed there was a 10c bag in there, and somehow she was trying to force a loose coin onto me.
No wonder she gave me. A funny look.

That's my attitude. Get as many as I can at face value, and then if I change my mind, I can always sell them down the track. :)

Those $1 Changeover coins seem to have a very low mintage, so I'm not surprised they sold out first. I'm still kicking myself for not buying more last year, which is why I'm buying lots of the coloured $2 coins. I still have my doubts about whether these coins will be evenly distributed around the country, so I want to ensure I have a good supply in case they don't get sent to Brisbane.
The Changeover 20c coin still hasn't turned up in any of my noodling hunts, and the 2015 Anzac $1 seems to have dried up completely. I also haven't forgotten that the 2015 Anzac $2 coin was mostly sent to Sydney, with only a small trickle showing up in Brisbane and Adelaide, and none in Melbourne and Perth. Hopefully, the mint won't repeat this catastrophic debacle, but as long as they continue to use Armaguard as their security company, I can never be entirely sure. :(

I could always send you one if you like, but it would have to be a noodling find, because I'm not ready to break open my own mint bag yet. :ok:
Hercules,
I have a found a few changeover 20c, but only 1 damaged $1.
Other than the 50c, the changeover coins are not very common.
I don't think I have rreceived any in change and in the rolls I have searched, they are pretty "few and far between".
If you have any $1 spare and are worried you won't get any 20c, we could do a trade of 20c for $1 coins?
I must admit, I did get one 10c changeover coin in change out of the vending machine at work.
That was an odd (and cold) discovery.
I also did buy a couple of mint bags when you could get the from RAMint's eshop, but like you, I'm not prepared to break them open just yet.

Thanks for the offer, Ozcoins, but I haven't found any Changeover dollars yet, and I'm not prepared to break open the bag that I have. I also have a bag of the 20c ones, so there's really no incentive for me to do a swap.
According to my latest noodling stats, this is the frequency of each Changeover coin in Brisbane:
Changeover 5c: 0.03%
Changeover 10c: 0.5%
Changeover 20c: Not detected
Changeover 50c: 0.9%
Changeover $1: Not detected
Changeover $2: 0.8%
I know people who have found the Changeover 10c and $2 in change, and I've personally received a Changeover 50c in change, so they seem to be much more common than the others (at least in Brisbane). I also know someone who went to Melbourne recently and received a Changeover 5c in change, so the 20c and the $1 seem to be the scarcest of the six. :dodgy:

In that case, just use the one you got from the vending machine, and do some noodling if you require more. Receiving one from a vending machine is a strong sign that there are others in your area, so you just need to be patient and wait for them to appear. :good:
Sorry,
I misunderstood that you might have some spare/tradable noodled $1 from mentioning that you had not found any 20c, but not mentioning that you had not found the $1 (I hope that is clear?)
Yeah. I didn't bother to mention the lack of Changeover dollars from noodling finds, because I was trying to demonstrate the uneven distribution of coins across Australia, and the small number of Changeover dollars seems to be fairly evenly spread. :ok:
A friend who attended the coin swap in Canberra on Saturday told me the single coin changeover $1 was sold out at lunchtime and the changeover 20c sachet was reduced to single coin purchase
I think the only changeover sachets left over are the 5c 50c and $2 now
So I just did my count.
This wasnt all just from the weekend, but in multiple orders from the mint earlier in the year, adding packs whenever I could (although that was a bit his-and-miss. Especially with the $1. Sometimes available, and at other times not.
The strange this is, when I did the tour of the mint at the changeover open day, there were barrels and barrels and barrels of these changeover coins.
I think the barrel of $2 coins held 200,000 coins. if I remember the printing correctly.
Where are they all? The couldn't all be in mint rolls held by collectors.
Barrels and barrels, my eye! More like a leaky tap they forgot to turn off. :dodgy:

The 2016 RAM Open Day only had the 50c baggies :wavemulticolor:
Just had an email from the RAM. My $1 ANZACs are on the way. :)
Just received a few bags from RAM today. I've noticed that some of the coins have sort of a 'chipped' rim. Have you guys noticed this as well? It's not just an isolated coin but a few of them have got it and it's in various locations. I reckon it's some sort of PMD?
I got some of my coins today as well, but I haven't spent as much time looking at them as you have. All I noticed was that they had lots of little scratches, which is a bit disappointing, but not surprising when you consider that they came in bags. I'm trying not to move them around too much, which is why I haven't analysed them in detail.
Yeah I want to get one of those vacuum sealer but I am uncertain of the type of plastic in the bags. That would stop the baggies from sloshing around.
Congratulations, kchan. You've just reached 1,000 posts!!!

Yea I was in the process of getting them to line up in the bags for keeping and noticed the nicks. Looked further and realised two bags had coins with them.

Just received my $1 ANZACs from the mint.

LDPE, same as every other bag.
Roll them up, along the edge with the cut because its open to the atmosphere. Then put the roll in a standard ziplock bank bag. You can get 4 rolls in a bag. Tape up the airholes and force as much air out as you can.
Then vacuum seal the ziplock bag in a (washed and dried) chip bag, or put it in a PP bucket with some oxygen and moisture adsorbers.
Surely, there must be an easier way to do it. Preserving $1 and $2 coins in their original condition isn't meant to be a chore. :ok:

saflips and 2x2;s will do the job as well.
Just leaving them in the original little baggies the $10 lots come in from RAM is Not a great idea if you want the coins to be protected from "bagging" or toning as they are Not airtight and rattling around in the bag is only going to damage the coins as well.
So yes it is a bit of a "Chore" if you want to preserve the condition of the coins Long Term :ok:
Quote from: 'Hercules' pid='108481' dateline='1494560751'Surely, there must be an easier way to do it. Preserving $1 and $2 coins in their original condition isn't meant to be a chore. :ok:
The problem is that the atmosphere is toxic to coins. And LDPE is not proof against gasses and moisture passing straight through it.
So either you go for the expensive option, paying a sizable chunk of the face value of a coin, and destroying the original packaging, or you find barriers which will do the same job.
Saflips are made from PET, the same stuff as soft drink bottles. In film form, its normally stretched, to form BoPET
(Biaxially-oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate), otherwise known as Mylar. The same stuff which is in 2x2's and, with a metallised layer, in helium balloons and chip packets.
The thing is, permeability to oxygen and water are two different things. No one material is good for both. And given that permeability is a function of both surface area and thickness, a thin film isn't ideal.
That's why keeping the coins in their original bags, then wrapping them in extra layers, including the multi-layer sandwich which metallised food packaging such as chip packets are made from, provide better protection. Admittedly at the expense of being able to see coins easily. But hey, its free, so you can break them out when required, and anyway, this is bulk storage, right?... By all means spend a dollar or ten for those high-value gems. Give them individual acrylic coffins if you like. ;)
I have already received my $1 coins from the mint, but yesterday I received an
email with an invoice attached dated 19/05/17 for 2 more bags. No money has been taken from my Paypal account. I wonder if they are sending 2 more bags. Time will tell. :)
