Title: 2005 Roo Dollar
Post by: autocoupler on March 30, 2017, 10:36:10 AM
Fred Lever has an article in the latest CAB mag. where he lists what he sees as our 50 scarcest coins. Surprisingly, for me at least, the 2005 Roo Dollar gets a mention at position 46.

He'd be referring to the proof one I'd imagine Auto. (The one that managed to get into a few of the 2006 proof sets).

Thanks uni, but the list description is stated as; "The 50 most rare circulating coins by date, denomination and variety, no patterns or proofs and grade excluded".

I think there should have been a full stop after "variety".

There are definitely no patterns or proofs in the list, and Fred specifically refers to the grade as being average circulated when applied to his system of rarity.

How odd Auto. I know they did mint extra circulating 2005 MORs once they realised they had already done some by mistake which took the total mintage up to 5.8m, perhaps Fred's thinking of the initial (in error) mintage?

How many coins has he surveyed? You'd have to do hundreds of thousands for the results to be statistically significant, and I haven't even come close to that.
