Title: NRL & AFL Coins
Post by: brismike on February 12, 2017, 01:29:00 PM
Looks like the RAM has given up on the yearly AFL and NRL Coins.

They first started putting them out in 2012 when they minted two different coins. One Just said AFL Premiers 2012 and the other one said AFL Premiers 2012 Sydney Swans.

Then in 2013 they put out only one coin that had AFL Premiers 2013 Hawthorn.

That was repeated in 2014 when Hawthorn were the Premiers again with just the one single coin.

Then in 2015 we got coins for both AFL and NRL. But the winning Team was not mentioned on the coins. They were available before the Grand Finals were played and had counterstamps on them. "M" for the AFL and "S" for the NRL.

After the Finals were played and the winners were known Aussie Post put out PNC's that acknowledged the winning teams on the packaging. These coins did not have a counterstamp.

Then the RAM released in limited quantities coloured versions of the coins in the winning teams colours. They can be found on Ebay at very high prices.

But 2016 seems to have been forgotton by the RAM. Aussie Post put out PNC's again but no coins only medallions in their place.

Do you think the RAM have given up on it or will they return?

I collected these to keep my Dollar collection up to speed, but must confess to being apprehensive about the number of types they pushed out the door last year, and we all know what happens if they think they're on a winner. So to be honest, I'm kind of glad the RAM appears to have ceased with this theme, even if it's just momentary :yahoo:

I was looking into this the other day when updating the mintages. The coloured dollars were given away to those who entered the draw when purchasing a counterstamp coin. Hence the high price and low mintage of 500 each.
