When that idiot tourist slammed into our Transit van nearly two years ago it put an end to my career as a Reliner and any work on a Minesite forever.
Also who on earth wants to employ a 62 year old with a "Spastic" left arm anyway ?
Apparently my Compo runs out in March this year, So I may have to go cap in hand to the dole shop for the first time in my life :dash1:
I have started the ball rolling making a claim for compensation as I was injured at work and also in a car accident so I will get something out of it as the driver that crashed into us was charged and convicted of dangerous driving causing Death and injury So the liability is established.
I have heard some horror stories about trying to survive on the dole/pension so I am not looking forward to that scenario at all.
I was looking forward to retiring But on my own terms, I never expected to be invalided out early and this has taken me somewhat by surprise and I am not at all ready or organised for it.
I suppose looking on the bright side of this Mrs Trout and myself will be able to start our "Grey Nomading" a few years earlier than we expected So that is a definite plus :good:
Also I will now after nearly 50 years have to give up my ciggies because I won't be able to afford them anymore, Or at least cut down on them heaps :cray:
Getting Old is bad enough, being partly disabled as well really "Sucks"
Oh okay, I knew you had an accident. But didn't know it was that bad and you can not work anymore. Good luck with it all... Give up the cancer sticks mate, you will feel 200% better after a few months.....

Yes they recon that the first 20yrs are the toughest when giving the fags up

Think of all the coins you will be able to buy with the money saved as well:yahoo:
I gave up about 3 years ago and I felt better almost immediately. At the time I think my habit was costing me approximately the equivalent of a proof set per week.
:friends:

Sorry to hear all that Jim,my Neville Nobody advice is to get a specialist Compo. Lawyer particulary in regards to the car accident, from what i have picked up over the years the 20% or whatever they take from the final settlement is well worth it.Over here in NSW the Govt. is trying to get them out of the Court system as regards 3rd party car accidents.
They did the same with workers comp many years ago and screwed it all up with the entity called "workcover" it's a bloody joke and so many of us have been screwed by the system :@
Jim, sorry to hear that your arm is so bad. I hope the compensation claim work out OK for you.
Definitely give up those fags mate. My wife did a few years ago and that's what pays for our
cruise each year. :)

I saw a lawyer in Geraldton on Monday and She advised me to use one of these specialist lawyers as well as Her firm didn't specialise in this field.
This lawyer recommended a firm in Perth that has a "Cap" of 10% maximum so I hope they do rather well out of my claim :)

I have a couple of those fake plastic ciggies that you put a little nicotine cartridge into So I will give those a go.
They seemed to take the "Edge" off the craving whilst I was trapped in my bed for a couple of weeks in hospital :good:
I worked out that I spend around 20k a year on fags So that would easily pay for a 6 months Grey haired nomading around Australia trip for Mrs T and myself.
Definitely something to consider :good:
 well slap my arse and call me Charlie, so you spend the equivalent to my pension on smokes..wow. Think of all the extra coins ya could buy :winkextra:

Hi Charlie :laugh2:
Yes I got a bit of a shock when I did the numbers myself, I am not even going to go anywhere near working out what I spend on coins a year.
That would be far too scary
Plus ya wouldn't want Mrs Trout to find out you she might string you up by the you know what's  :laugh2:
smoking, .... i tried many times over
first time i cut back gradually each day over 6 months and quit for 10 years - i was determined at that time when i quit - loved every day off the fags as well
i keep little note books and kept a count - i also counted for a few months after I stopped just to reward myself with the knowing that I hadn't smoked all of those - it was very satisfying to be on top of the addiction
started again silly me ... long story
and have since battled them for many years absolutely hating being a smoker every day that I did
this recent health crisis and seeing the utter despair and worry on my husbands face - made me go right - this is it - i can't do this to my family or myself anymore. i had been cutting back and on the yo yo but that moment in time made me determined to try to buy back some health and time to be around the people who I love so dearly
so each time the niggle came or less occasionally now but still comes - i just remember and sayto myself I don't want these mungrel things in my life anymore
i suppose that i chose to hate them rather than treat them as my friend
i am a lot better for it and am no longer paying B&H and the Australian Government to kill me sooner
Allen Carr books are really good - https://allencarr.com.au/
go for gold mate
you and Mrs Trout deserve a fresh start
you will do other work - just take a break - sort out the compensatin matters, grey nomad a bit more and there will be jobs that come your way
yu aren't the type to stop altogether
xx
