Hi, my father has a comprehensive Australian pre-decimal coin collection he would like to pass on to his grandchildren. There are many and varied coins but one in particular is the threepence 22/21 over date. He came across this coin some forty years ago and has stated that it has some value. I've attached a photograph the coin to see if anyone can shed light on the value of the coin or any other info.

Zersfrez
I think you forgot the picture , always go to ebay , type it in and if any are for sale then that will give you a rough idea of the price of one .

Is there a way of pasting the image directly into this text location?

Welcome to the forum.
Great coin to start with!
Looks like a nice average condition coin and would most likely be worth
anything from $2000 up to $6000 or $7000 depending on what the obverse
looks like. The value rises sharply once you get beyond VG
Great looking coin:

it is the one that pre decimal collectors do not have in their collection but would give an arm a leg to have one.
I have two of these. The first cost me $1,850.00 from Max Stern many years ago and the second one cost me $6,700.00.
I am still after one for my own collection.
They are a nice coin to have and make sure that if you decide to sell the collection, don't let the buyer pull the wool over your eyes as they say.
I wouldn't let that one go for anything less than $5,000.00 regardless of what the obverse looks like.
You have a top coin there.
I would get this coin certified by either PCGS or NGC Because nobody will pay Top dollar for it Raw :ok:

+1
If you go to:
http://www.noble.com.au/
and use their excellent search function to look up 1922/1 Threepences you get about 250 results with which to compare estimates and hammer prices. Quite a lot are over-dates and a lot have images as well.

yes i was wondering bout that statement as well!!
authenticity is the key to these little guys
the coin really has to be assessed as genuine
Apparently there are two reverse die markers but I'm not sure what they are.
1. I have two adult children.
2. I have two x 1930 pennies.
3. I have two 1921/22 threepences.
4. I have three 1923 halfpennies.
I need 2 and 3 for my own collection.

Do the adult children actively collect or are you making collections for them?
Either way, you're obviously a great Dad! :yahoo:
It will be part of my (our) farewell present to them when I (we) fall off our perch.
Neither of them collect coins as I do.
One will get the pre decimal collection whilst the other gets the decimal collection
Both will get a 1930, 1923 and 1921/22 coin as well as the collections mentioned.
