Title: Secret Santa 2016
Post by: Ozcoins on October 29, 2016, 02:34:11 PM
There has been some interest in having Secret Santa again (thanks for the reminder Trout!), so I will organise it for everyone.

Participants must have 50 posts and be a member for more than 14 days.
Present around $10 value including postage the sender pays.

Participants will be accepted until midnight on Sunday 27th November.
I will get the draw done and details to participants on Monday 28th November.

If you want to take part, please post here that you would like to participate and send me details of where presents should be posted via PM.

Something to consider: For everyone's security, I do not want to receive (or pass on) address details where valuable collections are held. Please use a mailing address where this does not apply.

Have fun everyone!!

My darling wife has helped by pulling the numbers "out of the hat", so the draw has been done.
Private messages are being sent to all participants now with thier recipients postal addresses now.
Merry Christmas all!

All addresses have been sent!
Please post here when you receive your present so I know that eveything has gone smoothly.
Also let me know if there are any issues.

Most of us have plenty to choose from But it's finding something that you think will bring some Joy to the recipient that is tough, Especially when there is nothing in their profile

This is not a trading session,It is a gift exchange.
It doesn't matter what you send as long as YOU think they may like it or that YOU think it is interesting.
It may sound cleche But it really IS the thought that counts :)

I went to the post office today to post some more stuff and the girl told me that my SS parcel was a tad overweight But she sent it off anyway.
I hope there won't be a problem at the other end.
I sent it in one of them pre paid plastic bag thingies, So I am hoping there wont be a drama with it.

I got my SS gift yesterday which reminded me I had a heap of goodies arrive along with an eBay purchase which had something missing -the stamps! It was a stampless registered letter that slipped through the eagle eyes of AP this silly season. Hmmmm perhaps the sender is getting a fine for Christmas.
Thankyou to my SS for the gift (and AP for the uncancelled stamp ). I am struggling to pick out something suitable for my giftee.

From the crowd I saw at my PO the other day I imagine that AP is starting to feel the Xmas rush and some things are slipping through the cracks.
I hope so anyway because it will be bloody embarrassing if my recipient has to pay the extra postage because of my stuff up, Or worse they send it back so I have to do it all over again and it gets there too late for Christmas .
What's the "Go" with sending something in a pre paid bag that is a bit overweight ?
Title: RE: Secret Santa 2016
Post by: robbiegal on December 07, 2016, 09:51:48 AM
I was charged $2.70 for an undercharged parcel - covered in types of stamps not a repaid satchel - had a big stamp _ UNPAID POSTAGE or something like that

I had bought off the seller heaps - but wait they were not quite 'real stamps' they were some sort of white post office ? un-used ? printed label - for example, post code 4211 to post code 2155 - none of the towns where i live or where it came from and I let him know about it

he told me to go back to the post office and demand my money back

needless to say the seller has lost a long time customer as I thought it was pretty damn rude and if that was a sign of the future dealings, i didn't want to know about it

there is a difference between buying stamps at auctions which is perfectly legal

don't worry about your parcel until you have to Trout

missing stamps probably happens from time to time
it's possible too that if the stamps or postage paid label were on at the time of postage and the label has peeled off or been bumped off during handling after it crossed the counter

I doubt it would get picked up. I had about 2kg turn up one day in a 500g bag with no consequences for me. Don't know about the seller. Perhaps some of it is just luck. I wouldn't worry.

You are most probably right, Anyway 99.99% of the time these pre paid packages are well under the weight limits So the odd overweight one wouldn't matter that much anyway hopefully.
I should find out either way in about a week anyway:angel:
If this was something that I had sold on eBay I would most likely have just issued the buyer a refund because of my stuff up But as this is a gift my hands are tied and I just have to hope that the package arrives without any dramas.

Quote from: 'JeffH' pid='102828' dateline='1481846183'I have never seen a double tail without the blob on the 1 (or vice versa). I have seen them with rabbit ears as well and 2008 rabbit ears without the double tail 1 blob.

It's a great chicken and egg discussion, there's 3 combinations with the 2008 Number 1 & Tail cuds.

1. Number 1 Cud
2. Tail Cud
3. Number 1 Cud & Tail Cud

(Not going into the rabbit ears or spew roos in this discussion).

The thread below discusses them (unfortunately one of Steve's images isn't showing up any more ... which just has the Number 1 cud by itself). I might have one laying around and add it to the end of that thread for reference.

https://www.australian-coins.net/showthread.php?tid=1873 (https://www.australian-coins.net/showthread.php?tid=1873)

Here's part of that thread with some images from Nevol.

Quote from: 'Nevol' pid='33795' dateline='1384032605'I checked my images of 2008 'Double Tail' and 'Boxing Roo' coins and came up with 4 images as follows, but I have them numbered, C1, C2, C4, C5, so I dunno what I did with c3. :scratch_one-s_head:

Opened my Secret Santa present this morning. A very nice birth year date penny. Thank you secret Santa.

And Santa might have influenced the 50¢ bag I just noodled;
•Excellent condition incused millennium.
•Similar condition 1993
•Another 1993 but not quite as good
•1985
•Several good condition Centenary of Federation (plus a few not quite so good)
•and a swag of 1981 Charles and Diana all around EF and aUNC!
I must have been a very good boy this year but I can't remember that.

If you found all those, then Santa MUST have been involved!

A big thanks to my Secret Santa!
A very thoughtful gift.
I made a post a while ago about not having found any counterfeit $2 coins and now I have one!
Photos to follow shortly.

QuotePics of the incused?
If you insist. Here is the better 1993 and the incused. The incused does look much better "in the hand" than in these crappy photos -very good lustre.
There is a flaw at about 11:20 on the obverse of the incused. Looks like a strike through or, possibly, a planchet flaw to me.

My excuse for the poor photos is that it is Christmas day, which can be a rather full(!) day here and busy with coming and going visit commitments.

I couldn't believe it when I opened it up today.   (We had Christmas today instead of yesterday)

Once again, many many thanks.
