Purchased this in a bulk lot of NZ errors last week has anyone seen similar faults with 1978 1 Cent coins?

Still trying to get my head around what happened with that one. Looks like a partial brockage with the Queen's shoulder and part of the back of her hair visible, but that doesn't explain the rest of the correctly struck-up reverse.
Gosh, that's a real mystery to me. I wouldn't know how to explain what's happened. :scratch_one-s_head:
Nice :)
What a great error NZC!!!! :good:
I love how the misaligned obverse image shows through on the reverse indentation. Must have been a couple of coins in the press to end up like that.
Wow!
Struck through a struck fragment. Oh boy. Wowee.

Yeah, but how? And how tightly is it being held on? Would it be better if they separated?
Don't separate it, leave well alone.
A nice error.
My first thought was a blow torch job but not so sure now.
I've seen a similar thing on a 2 cent piece, not as glamourous as yours, but still a pretty cool piece :)

Thinking something like this may have caused it. A piece breaking off then getting lodged prior to the next striking. Just a thought.

Probably, yeah. But I think Mark and Uni are right and there were more than two coins involved.
Regardless, flaws like this are awesome, and in my opinion MUCH more desirable than any slab.

Yes, something exactly like that.
Awesome coin!
