Title: The RAM Shop
Post by: trout on September 18, 2016, 09:59:57 AM
As I understand it many collectors are experiencing extended delays with their orders from the RAM shop lately, I know that I am :(
I normally order something as soon as it is made available and yet Most dealers have the items available way before mine is even dispatched from RAM.
Do RAM "prioritise" orders from dealers and worry about us lowly collectors much later??
Also in the case of something you have ordered and paid for  that has run out of stock After you have made the order Do you still eventually get it or do the dealer orders get filled first and if there isn't any left do you miss out??

Anyone else having problems with their RAM purchases??

Looks like the RAM has been overrun with the coloured $2s and the changeover bag orders.

Only been waiting just shy of a fortnight.

If they were an Ebay seller the RAM would be copping some low gradings on speed of delivery :mocking:

I ordered the $1 baggies on 1/8/16 and I am still waiting for them to be posted along with 8 other different orders including my order for the parra carded coins on the 23/8/16 :dash1:

i have 4 orders from 29/8, 5/9 and 12/9 but no dispatch emails yet

parras might be holding the posting up
29/8  has para coins in it, i think as well

order/s from the 19/8 have been sent and delivered and i live just down the road! nope they won't let locals collect

ps
i don't believe that the RAM considers us collectors as lowly at all
certainly the mint shop staff don't

Email replies and delayed delivery
18 Aug 2016

Due to the high volume of emails we have been receiving, there is a slight delay  in response times. The Mint will endeavour to answer all emails as soon as possible.

For domestic customers the usual delivery time for an item purchased from the Mint is 10 to 14 business days from the dispatch date (Note Weekends are not included in this  timeframe).

The Mint is currently experiencing a period of high demand which means there may be  a delay in dispatch times. We are working hard to remedy this and are expecting orders to be dispatched as usual very soon.

At the time of your order being dispatched you will receive an email from the Mint advising that your product has left us and you will receive a tracking number. The tracking number can be used at https://auspost.com.au/

For more information on delivery and shipping of the Mint's products, please visit our FAQ page

https://eshop.ramint.gov.au/faq.aspx

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this busy period.

Unlimited Mintage sell-out
31 Aug 2016

The term 'unlimited' mintage means that there will not be a final amount declared for this product. It does not mean that more stock will be produced once sold out of existing stock. The Olympics and Paralympics stock produced has been exhausted and no further products will be made or released. It is best if you try contacting a coin dealer to see if they have any available: http://www.ramint.gov.au/australian-dealers

I ordered 1 bag each of the Changeover $1 & $2 on 5 Sep. Confirmation notice rec'd same day, plus Cr  Card was debited same day.

I don't think any business should hit you up, especially on a Cr Card until the goods have been posted. :scratch_one-s_head:

i buy a bit from Wynard Coins - they charge instantly even though the item will not be available say for 3 months before the release date
the full 2016 mint rolls are an example

these days they seem to call it 'pre-order'

I have no problem with paying up front But I do have "issues" with my orders being put on the back burner so that the dealers orders can be serviced first which appears to be the case at the moment, As I doubt very much that a dealer would put an order in on the first day of availability at 2am  :dodgy:

Every order I've placed this year (8 of them) say "open" even though I have received all but one order (with para coins in it). It's a bit hard to keep track when they charge you months ago, then you receive some, and you have to place multiple purchases to add the items that require one per order. If they could keep the records up to date that would be good. I do get shipment emails but then you have to cross reference.
Title: RE: The RAM Shop

When I complained, what they told me was:

- They're doing a stocktake and products will become either available or out of stock when they're done. Keep checking back.

- The wholesale section is completely separate, with its own product allocations. Nothing to do with the shop at all.

Frankly, I think the whole setup is very third rate. If they want to become more commercial and eventually a standalone private business, they really have to lift their game. Big time. Because the way things stand, we're getting the worst of both worlds, and people won't stand for it.

Without collectors there wouldn't be a RAM shop or any need for any collectable product that RAM produces, however I am thinking that RAM would much rather us "Bothersome" collectors buy from their pet dealers than having to actually deal with us vermin personally

I do get the distinct feeling that the people at RAM think they are doing us a favour and simply treat us as a cow to Milk instead of treating us as collectors and that we are the very reason they have a job in the first place. :ok:

The Mob at RAM make even the customer service at PCGS look Good, Because it pretty woeful to say the least.

I am sorry Interest, we dont have to accept bad behavior from anyone because thats how it is. As a business you have to look after your customers or they go elsewhere. At the point of sale if they say it is 3 months wait, then thats acceptable. However if they say 3 weeks and you get your order after 5 months, thats poor form. If the issue is an isolated incident, then an apology in an order and an offer to refund ? No one should have to put up with that...

Do you put up with waiting at a checkout for 30 mins and say oh well thats life or go to a restaurant and wait 2 hour for your food when the waiter says it is only 30 mins ? I dont, not sure about the others..

No, there is not, you can go to a dealer and buy coins or other alternatives are there...Why not sell direct to customers and maximize profit unless their business  strategy to directing customers to others for their purchases due to business reasons (ie it is too costly to operate direct to customer business models and RAM wants customers to go elsewhere).. But there should be a better way of doing that if thats their motive (which I doubt).

Because they're incompetent, basically.

I covered this sort of thing at some length in the discussion I had with them at ANDA. Basically, they want more collectors, so they can flog them overpriced crap. But they don't want to look after the collectors they already have, when that's been proven repeatedly to cost a tenth what it does to get a new customer.

Incompetence is the only explanation.

You must be living with some lost tribe in the Amazon to consider a 5 Month delay is acceptable, The rest of us are living in the 21st Centaury and find this deplorable and highly unsatisfactory behaviour.

There IS that option RG and it is one that I have been seriously considering over the last few weeks.
My reasons are varied and this third rate service that RAM is providing is but the tip of the iceberg, although  it could prove to be the last straw as well. :ok:

The mid North coast ain't no Amazon lost tribe.
No, I don't think this is anywhere near acceptable! it dose'nt take that long to build a frigging house.
As I have stated before this is my last year of collecting mint product,
50 years from go to whoa, unless Lizzy falls off the perch next year.
I received a parcel from Wynyard coins last week I haven't even bothered to open, thus is my lack of interest in coin collecting.
Thanks to the Royal Australian Mint.

All is Good Mate, I was pretty sure that you were taking the "Micky" :drinks:

As with everything I do from my Family to my Work, I do it with a Passion and coin collecting is No different.
However maintaining that level of passion for numismatics has become increasingly hard for me over the last 2-3 years because of the sheer number of different coins coming from RAM and the overcommercialisation of the Hobby as a whole.

I just looked through my order history and I have orders dating back to 22/04/14 that are still marked as "Open".
I also noticed that shipping back then was $12 and it is now $10 So there IS at least 1 thing that RAM have improved on over the last couple of years

And this surprises you? Its exactly the sort of bullshit that the Facebook groups suffer from, along with previous RAM forums and even independent ones. There's been a bit of this kind of thing on CCF, and even to a very mild degree, here. Why do you think AJ regularly spits the dummy and storms off?

That kind of thing really shits me, BTW, and if I hadn't already decided any 'official' forum was just going to be a marketing ploy and therefore not worth my investment, I too would quit in disgust.

I joined SYC in the hope that I could get some straight answers from RAM But that unfortunately was a forlorn hope But if you don't try then you can't even hope to succeed with anything.
The site is basically a resource for the marketing department and anyone that asks too many awkward  questions or discusses problems with RAM's performance are not welcome there.

The only thing of value I got from my time on SYC is when Dion opened up and explained exactly how the Wedding Set coins were produced, This is something that wasn't common knowledge to the collecting community at the time :good:

Yeah... and?

These rolls are a drop in the ocean of what the RAM produces. So are the baggies. You can't blame outside forces for the people at the mint not being able to organise a pissup in a brewery I'm afraid.

Think about it....

They have bagging machines churning out pallet loads of coins all day every day. They load up ONE machine with different film, set how many coins to put in, and let 'er rip. Not exactly rocket science. They could easily produce enough bags to flood the country, but they choose not to. And they also choose this idiotic one bag limit and postage bullshit.

Sorry, but the blame lies entirely with the mint, noone else.

Bullshit.

They know how much they sell, and what the demand is. 100,000 mint sets, more or less, every year, right? So that's a minimum production target. And with a one bag limit, that's 100,000 orders, which is impossible to place in the day or so before they shut it down.

I think that once an order is placed with the RAM, your payment is taken as soon as possible.   Once that payment has cleared, a dispatch order is sent into the mailing department of the RAM.   With the number of coins being minted and ordered, it's no wonder there are delays in dispatch and receipt.

Then on top of all that, once dispatched, one received a dispatch email.   Just think of how many people the RAM have on the payroll.

I think a little more patience would be needed.

Every time I have had to ring RAM about an order the person on the receiving end has always been pleasant and courteous So I would forget all about emailing as I think that they have the same operating procedures as PCGS
This year has been the absolute worst for shipping delays and I think that this is due more to the sheer volume and size of orders Than it has to do with the work ethics of the people in the shipping department at RAM.
This "Drop Selling" and the marked increase in activity on the secondary market for new releases would also have an impact on RAM's ability to Ship on time.
There is also the problem where some of the orders for the secondary market are so large that they strip the supplies available and more coins have to be manufactured .
We have seen all sorts of new shenanigan's where RAM products are concerned on eBay, facebook and the like that has had an impact on supplies and availability from the RAM Shop as well.

I doubt that RAM has increased the staffing levels in the shipping department to cover this increase in activity and that is why we are having all these bloody annoying delays :ok:
Title: RE: The RAM Shop
Post by: Fulvio on October 08, 2016, 01:00:42 AM
I really think you are vastly overestimating the impact of these fantasies.

Amazon ships 375 million parcels a year. At a loss.

"This statistic illustrates Amazon.com's annual shipping revenue and outbound shipping costs from 2006 to 2015. In 2015, Amazon's shipping revenue amounted to 6.52 billion US dollars whereas the company's outbound shipping costs came to 11.54 billion US dollars. Net shipping costs in the year amounted to 5.02 billion U.S. dollars."

OK, not everybody is as smart as Amazon....

Kogan did 30,000 orders taken and shipped in six hours.

This bullshit about how the RAM is overwhelmed is just that. Bullshit. They could easily supply every collector in the country, and every dealer, ebay or otherwise, several times over. They have bugger all product lines, they manufacture themselves, and produce MILLIONS, nay, HUNDREDS of Millions of coins every year, and have been doing it for 40 years now.

This shipping failure is new. And completely self-inflicted. Because they clearly can't organise their way out of a paper bag.

Look at the Olympics cards, which are STILL back-ordered. They dropped an average of 150 per store, some 150,000 sets. Blind Freddy could have told you they would need at least as many Paralympics. But they only gave each store one box, for 50,000 total. And dealers still haven't had any supplies, other than a small part of their orders delivered in the first week.

These are CIRCULATING coins. They made 2.5 million of each, and 150,000 is a drop in the bucket. Failing to not only predict demand, but fulfill orders which have been paid for, even after months, is ridiculous in my book, and I doubt that they will ever supply.

And the Anniversary baggies are no better. The difference between standard issue bags and these is only the colour of the film, and the coin count in them. Otherwise they're exactly the same. If they can produce pallet loads of sacks for Armaguard to distribute, there is no earthly reason they can't produce a small number of these to keep customers happy.

Sorry, I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. And going by past track record, probably never will, because they won't learn from these stuffups. :P

With all the dramas RAM has had with supply this year you would think that they would have learnt from this and would make sure that they had  enough product "On Hand" before they release a new coin.

Can you please provide a link to support your claim.

Are you claiming that Kogan processed 5000 orders per hour from order point to despatch?

I really find that hard to believe for an AU entity or any entity anywhere worldwide!

Please provide supporting evidence of your claim.

The letter that came with my Parra coins, There was an interesting paragraph in it that read;
QuoteFirst and foremost, we would like to apologise for the delay with your order. This extended delivery period is out of the ordinary for us. These issues are currently being addressed to ensure that it does not reoccur in the future

So I did some searching on eBay for the Pre order listings from the usual suspects and "voila" they are No longer there :good:
One seller even replied to a Neutral feed back by saying "Complain to Royal Australian Mint not honoring orders & supplying Woollies only"
So it looks like RAM is doing something about these "Drop sellers" at last :)

Either the RAM or Federal and local police forces.

I spoke with a Armagaurd/Security delivery team earlier this week re the Olympic Games and Paralympic game coins and they informed that both local and federal police are doing something about it.

They informed me that the police had already secur3ed records from various security HQ's for further investigation.

The above was told toe with little prompting and NO, the conversation was not recorded.

Which is what Ross told me just after the first sack turned up on eBay.

Note that these investigations are to do with the sacks and boxes which were listed before they were released through the stores. Which is a clear breach, and possibly a crime. The culprits had to be Armaguard or Woolworths employees, and they were the only ones with access at that point.

Ron Black just delivered my box of Paralympics. They came in a plastic bag of 50, without a box, and he didn't get any 'apologies' trinkets either.

Interestingly, he says others have reported that this batch is MUCH higher quality, with one guy sending quite a few off for slabbing. I haven't looked yet, and intend doing something about PP bags for them before I open the bag, because of the half-moon plastic capsule that doesn't protect the coin.

Also, I had asked about the cards that Cotton cracked the coins for his rolls out of (which, incredibly, are just about sold out). No dice.. apparently Cotton is selling them, at quite a hefty price. Now, call me suspicious, but I can think of only one reason to pay for an empty card. I'd be REAL careful about buying any Olympic carded coins on eBay. :dodgy:

Just received an email from the RAM. My order of changeover baggies is ready to send. So 26 October -5 September is more than seven weeks.

They need to do something and not just a management enquiry which ties up staff who would be better utilised packing and posting. Or, do they have a production issue? -seems to be an awful lot of "temporarily unavailable" items in the shop lately.

The sales order system at the RAM has added GST in for a while but it is not actually paid. I think there was a note on the RAM website or an email sent out some time ago acknowledging that the inclusion of GST on the sales order was incorrect (still haven't fixed the error yet though).

They are UNC coins  not circulating.
See RAMINT web site.
http://ramint.gov.au/publications/woolworths-shoppers-win-gold-exclusive-olympic-coin-launch
These coins are NCLT!

How many times times can members here ignore the evidence re the UNC definition.

The fact that they were distributed by Woolworths does not change their official RAMINT status.

This is my third or 4th post confirming the RAMINT status of the Olympic $2 coins.

What is is wrong with you people here?

The Olympic coins are NCLT!

Waiting is not a big problem.
Lack of advice of delays is an issue -sure way to piss off customers. And it encourages emails and phone calls ("where are my coins?") which just takes up staff time.

Also debiting your card for the payment immediately and then nothing for seven* weeks is a good way to increase customer dissatisfaction.
*By the time my order is delivered it will be more than eight weeks. AP tracking shows postage is organised but package has not yet been lodged (presumably that will happen today).

I emailed RAM about this about 2 weeks ago and got the standard We are busy reply and as yet nothing has been done to rectify this and update my order history :dash1:

So after gentle suggestion from a forum member (thank you) I didn't sit on my hands and stew about this. I called the RAM and discussed the situation. After being told "that was the system" I asked to cancel all of my current orders. After a "quick chat" with the supervisor they caved to make me happy and placed separate orders without postage charge for all of my orders to add the dollar bags.
They implied that these circulation bags had been so much more popular with collectors than they expected and their system was flawed and they wouldn't be doing it like this next year.

QuoteThey implied that these circulation bags had been so much more popular with collectors than they expected and their system was flawed and they wouldn't be doing it like this next year.

With the amount of problems the Mint bags have caused RAM this year I have a suspicion that this will be the last year that they will be made available to collectors directly from the RAM Shop.
If they are still to be made in the future I would think that they will be distributed through the dealer network as the limited supply of RAM rolls are now and at a premium :(

These "baggies" were a great idea for collectors But were open to abuse by the eBay/Facebook resellers and IMHO that is why they were released separately and the limitations per order were put in place by RAM.
This worked pretty much perfectly until 5/9/16 when all of the Mint bags were made available and all 6 were available to be ordered at the same time for the one $10 shipping fee.
Within 12 hrs of the release of the last of the bags the $2 coins every denomination of the "Baggies" was listed on the RAM Shop as "Temporarily unavailable" and after that the $1 and $2 coins were the only ones available and even these had problems with availability.

Which, sadly, is more than I can say for my car. I oopsed in heavy traffic, and now its going to cost me $700 according to the insurance company.

Bloody expensive bunch of coins, considering. :(

I didn't even feel it. Heard it though.

Seems both cars are wider 'below the plimsol' than where you can see. As evidenced by the first point of contact being the front wheel arch.

Totally my fault, so meh.

You were probably "oogling" your coins and not paying attention.
You wouldn't be the only one that has done that Mate :)

Nah, can't even use that excuse. They were under a blanket on the front seat. Fact is, I just didn't turn the wheel quite far enough. Shit happens. :/

"Be sure to get your orders in by 12 December to ensure delivery prior to the holiday season. "

I wouldn't count on that!
Perhaps they mean the Chinese New Year which is January 28, 2017.

My orders for the Dirk Hartog 20c and the Gold plated round 50c were placed on 5/10/16.
I received them yesterday 10/11/16, That's a 5 week turnaround.:(
If I buy something from PP or most other dealers I have the product "In Hand" in about 7-10 days.
With the exception of Downies  which is just as slow as RAM every other dealer I have done business with gets the product to me within the 7-10 day period :good:

I just got an order form with the 2017 Unc/Proof sets on it.
Going to order them now and see how long that takes.
From my experience with dealing with them before it's a 5 to 6 weeks turnaround

Having worked in stores in a former life, I can safely say that anything other than same-day shipping is BS.

We didn't have computers back then, and even with everything handwritten or typed, and with some 50,000 product lines, up to and including complete diesel engines, we seldom failed to get orders shipped by 4pm. What happened to them after that was out of our hands, of course, but that's another story.

The typical order takes seconds to invoice, minutes to pick, 5 minutes to pack, and another couple of minutes to do the shipping paperwork if it wasn't already done by the computer. And the RAM doesn't have tens of thousands of stock lines. Nor does it have loose items that need to be picked, assembled and boxed (like nut, bolt, washer sets for example) before being added to an order.

Sorry, I have zero sympathy for the crap service they provide. They could, and should, do much, much better. :dodgy:

The 2016 Fine Silver proof set sold out a while back and yet they are still available on the RAM shop site ???
These are either returns or they have minted more of them above the 1966 mintage figure .

Did they get Fulvio as a consultant to review their procedures?
Three orders on 4 November arrived yesterday -that is exactly one week!
Of course three packages because they had some items limited to one per order. I never did get a reply to my email suggesting they should combine postage in such circumstances. All three dispatch notifications were sent within a span of a few minutes so chances are one person packed all mine but "the system is the system".

Is it common for RAM to distribute a coin exclusively through dealer?

no that i want one...
Title: RE: The RAM Shop
Post by: trout on November 12, 2016, 09:22:50 AM
I don't want one either but it looks like downies and the other firm has bought the entire mintage between them before collectors were even aware that they were available.
They may have also jointly commissioned the coin.
It also looks like this is the first of many and the series will issued alphabetically, they killed the 25mm dollar collectors off with the ABC coins so I imagine these will have the same effect on the Silver 1oz round collectors.

That is a HUGE improvement :good:
Now that the "Baggies" are just about finished and those blasted Olympic $2 are gone everything is returning to normal.
I hope RAM has learnt a lesson from all the drop selling and 3rd party roll making that happened this year and has procedures in place to prevent these people from Bogging down the system in future.

I just ordered six "coin swap" baggies at $10 each + postage $10 = $70 and my order details page shows that amount.
Have now received an order confirmation email that shows also $6 GST giving a total of $76.
The debit hasn't appeared on my card yet so I am not sure what I have been actually charged.
Previous baggie purchases have not had GST charged and the sales listings do not mention it (show domestic price and international price both at $10 per baggie).

I have queried this.
Should such a purchase include GST or is this a RAM snafu?

There is an error with the invoices with the coins sold ( swapped ) for face value.
You do not get charged the GST. Just check your bank statement and everything should be ok.
It was explained on Shape Your Collection a while ago.
Hope this helps.

From the R.A.M.
"Thank you for contacting the Royal Australian Mint.
Some invoices may display incorrect pricing however, please note the correct amount has been deducted for the purchase of the product at face value and the postage and handling fee. You have not paid GST on this product."
