Title: Olympics
Post by: ausjack on August 13, 2016, 09:50:32 PM
I was just thinking, and yes it hurt like hell  but was thinking why they didn't do any olympic coin for circulation for the 56 aussie games but more so why they didn't do one for the 2000, maybe because of the millennium :scratch_one-s_head: But it's unlike the mint to miss out on an opportunity like that and it's not like they don't release more than one commemorative per year now :dodgy:

In a word, money.

The mint gets nothing out of seigniorage. That goes to the government.

But the profits on collectibles go into their bottom line.

So that's why they charge like wounded bulls :winkextra: But wouldn't they make a heap from the gov for making circulating coins and why does the gov complain about the humble five cent costing so much to make.
