Title: Sorting Through Bulklots
Post by: stevo1962 on June 21, 2016, 09:02:30 AM
Decided to jump back on the bulklot bandwagon again recently and bought 10kg of
KGV  pennies to try my luck as It has been worthwhile in the past.I was lucky enough to find this 1931 Indian and a few 1933 overdates which almost made it worthwhile.Pity it wasnt a dropped one

many in a 10kg lot

My experience is they stuck with the last of the overdate Dies, the one with the tip of 2 showing, but no spike or back of the 2 showing, for some time, they are plentiful but still hard  to find in F or better.
The first overdate Die with the top of the 2 showing, like in the Rennik Books eg,is scarce,in 50 years i've found 2.The first one i swapped for a Half-Sovereign,my thinking at the time was i would get another one but regretted it ever since as they just do not exist.

I don't believe that they are rare
scarce maybe

but with 8 pearls
rare

my hubby went through a few kilos of KGV and got quite a few 31 Indians and 27 Indians (like about 10)
an unchecked lot for a change!

Good find, they are scarce Coins and i can never find any in Bulk Buys these days, prior to the Internet not a problem but nobody wanted to pay a premium to buy them in those days so Catch22.

I'm the same AJ,rarely find anything in bulk buys these days, early days of Ebay was a goldmine but now it takes a novice seller 30 secs. to find the value of a Coin and what varieties are scarce.

Edit...AJ,your not missing anything over at CCF,Oz. section is barely ticking over at the moment, you need the hard core of regular posters on Forums or they will die.

Yes the internet is changing a lot of things and I'm still undecided if it's a good or bad thing.

I'd go back but they give me the shits and keep banning me because I say bloody and hell and sometimes combine the two :mocking: So I just mainly hang around here and the round table :) I'd say bloody hell or something like that and cop a week ban and just get back and say something else and cop another one but you don't find out until you go to sign on and can't get in so it's not worth the agro.  What really amazes me is the stuff they say on US TV that they show out here and it's like wow and in prime time too

They could always pay me and that would be a nice incentive, in US coins of course or gold as I'll take either :winkextra:

I don't think they like bloody either Uni but the yanks are a funny lot

Yes there are still some deals out there K but this lot will tell you straight up that you won't find any of the big one's like a 1930 or 25 but plenty of varieties in there :good:

I use to love Aunty Jack, wish they'd bring that back on :) Good bye me little lovelies :bye2: I'll rip ya bloody arms off..and I will too..and don't forget it :laugh2:

it is where you get the bulk lot
but most have been picked through for key dates

an unchecked lot is rare but a load of fun if you can get your hands on one

postage is now $48 instead and not $10 like it was 2 years ago but will be worth it providing they are still unsearched

it is a great photo for sure!
all 3 points of the variety

this snap is from the coin blogg - Mark and Kaths'
this coin has the spike into the bottom bowl (just faint in the photo) so I think Serials' coin is still the 1933/32 overdate with the spike into bottom bowl, tip of the two peeking and the curve of the 2 showing on the top bowl (? bowl - cuurve of the 3 anyways)
I am not entirely what variety Basil is referring to

Yeah, close,i think that's an eg of their second go at it,the first one is even more pronounced but very similar to your Coin. This is the only early mint overdate i have now but the first attempt has even more of the top loop of the 2 showing under the 3.

Agreed that there are some great finds through these bulk lots. It's always difficult to confirm whether any bulk lots are truly untouched bulk lots. If you can find a good source, then well done.

Postage is now very expensive, but there is hours of enjoyment in a 10kg bag which makes it worthwhile.

As the varieties market seems to keep expanding, even previously scanned bulk lots may hold some sleeping varieties.

That is so true and I am reluctant to sell the sorted coin bulk for fear that I have
missed a variety coin in there somewhere. One lot I recently bought had apparently been searched but I ended up finding overdates and other coins which far outweighed the value of the original price paid for the bulk

I'm toying with the same notion. I currently have no time to sift through the bulk lots, but in my quest to de-clutter I am considering selling them. However, I'm likely to have time in the future (ie. when kids grow up) and it's going to be harder to get these back. The only thing I really need to determine is the best way to store them for a few years. Does vac-pack work? I'm sure Fulvio has an opinion on this.

If you do buy some bulk lots and plan to do them later CP make sure you get any that look yucky out and put in a separate bag because you could go to look and find the green death has spread or any other crap might transfer and that would be heart breaking :(

This is what I use, cheap as chips, keeps them separate and at around a cent a coin (deilvered) ...... to me it's a bargain. (Anyone that has bought coins from me will have seen them in the packaging).

i have always been told to snip a hole in the bag so that the coins can breathe
so i do that to my placcy bags
but now i prefer to use cellophane bags and have been using them for years now for when i sort my coins into groups etc

Whether it's the ziplock or cellophane bags, do you simply store one coin per bag and store it away until it's time to sift through them?

i do much the same

AJ your bank bags have holes in them
it stops the coins sweating

i also roll mine into rolls and nip them up in the cellophane - they look nice too
i don't use paper or soft plastic for long term storage anymore
