Hey guys, I just realised that 50c from 1966 are round. Does vending machines accept them? Because I didn't come across any of them for 5 months.
Vending machines -I don't know and don't care about that. They are 80 silver and the silver content is worth $7.95 as of last Friday. Best to keep them and, if you don't really want them, easy to sell for around bullion value.

Well vending machines are the main source of my Australian coins.
Where do you think I could get 1966 50c coin?
QuoteWhere do you think I could get 1966 50c coin?
Well I can't help you now -I sold my last eleven spares on the weekend for $10 each (happy with that price).
However I am sure plenty of members here should be able to help out. Failing that there are always plenty on eBay but often at ridiculous prices.
Asking at a bank if any have been cashed in is a long shot as most tellers are aware of the value but sometimes it can pay off.

are you wanting to swap it for a 66 round ???.
I have no idea what the SOVIET RUBLE , is or what is the value of it ??
is the value of it about $ 10.00 au dollars ?? about the same as an Australian 66 round ..???

Don't worry DD, if it's a couple of months I'm sure you'll reach the 50 posts required for the wanted / buy / sell / swap ru(b)les of the forum.

A few years ago I walked into my local WESTPAC and asked if they had any round 1966 50 cent coints.
Reply was:
Yes we have 52.
I bought 46 for $23 and the teller kept the remaining 6 coins.
I sold those 46 coins for $460 the next day!
If you do not ask you will never know!
Apply that same thought to $200 coins!
I have picked up a couple of $200 coins from banks for face value. Not for a long while now.

I think Ruble is cheaper, but I would like to add something more and swap it...
The only coins left for me are
66 50c
2 dollar red polpy
2 dollar red circle.
so I think I can manage it with Soviet ruble and 2 commemaritive 2 euro coins.
d d , I gave my son and daughter 5 each when I retired from work , some 14 years ago , weather they still have them or not I don't know , but I will see if I can help you out , my son is working away just now and my daughter said hers are missing and cant find them just now .if she finds them , you can have one .
and maybe someone else on this forum can help you out too .
good luck in your venture . ,, kel ,,
Yes, all my six $200 gold coins came from the banks at face value over a period of time some years ago.
I was able to secure 27 x 1966 50c coins ages ago at my local bank and I have found several whilst noodling the 50c pieces looking for the 2010 rotated 50c coin. I'm currently have 1,004 x 1966 50c pieces many of which are pictured somewhere on this forum under the heading Saturday Silver or something like that.
Banks are a favourite place to secure old coins.

There were issued in the 80's in small PVC wallets at a small premium over face value. $215, IIRC. They never really did anything useful, being overpriced as bullion, effectively unspendable and not really attractive to collectors. Many were cashed in at banks over the years.

Banks withdraw certain currency from circulation and send it off for destruction. This includes 'superseded' coins and notes, such as paper, copper, gold and silver coins as well as damaged currency.
Sometimes, if you're nice to tellers, they will let you buy these back at face value. It saves them work, and keeps a customer happy. Sadly, not all tellers are so enlightened, and I had one branch manager deliberately prevent me from taking a parcel which included $3,500 in silver value worth of round 50ยข coins. I was NOT happy, especially when they later turned up, cashed in by an Armaguard employee. :(

200$ is a lot of money for a coin... is it possible to sell more than that now?
Those gold coins are 22 carat gold (91.67% pure) and weigh 10 grams. At current world gold prices that equates to a gold value of a little over AUD$500 per coin!

Am I right?
that is about 334.6 oz silver in that lot!!!
perth mint ask price tonight is
AUD 24.45 an OZ (wow over 8k!!)
now I know why you guys collect these coins cheap and hoard them!!
hi Bruce , 1004 of them , that is a great heap ,and worth over
$ 10000.00 , maybe you could sell him one or swap him , or even give him one , just so he can return home happy with what he has gained from studying Australian coins . I will still try and get one back from one of my kids first but I would hate him to return back to his own country without getting what he wanted . no problem if you want to keep all you have , he still has plenty of time to get one elsewhere even off ebay @ about $10,00 or so but I think he wants to swap . anyway no problems , just a thought that's all . ,, kel ,,
here's a nice one DD
seller has been around for years
should be reliable

That is a nice looking coin for the price :good:
There are millions and millions of these coins still available But finding a Gem Uncirculated example is incredibly hard due to them being roughly handled and stored as Bullion coins in most cases.
true
but I reckon our friend here probably just wants a nice old sample to take back to the homeland
Looking for a second opinion on the 6's one looks to overlap the curve part.
Standard looking 6's, not overlapping the curve

Looks different.
Any chance of a higher res pic ?
Unfortunately not at the moment with the pics, best I could do for the time. Still having a few problems with the setup, again. Just found another 2 overlapping as well.
