I got a couple of the little Dansco like albums for the circulating commemorative coins from RAM when I ordered a couple of the 50c baggies.
It would be a great idea if RAM took this a little further and added holes for the other circulating coins eg $2 and made them available every year.
It would help to promote the hobby as these small albums would be less daunting than the standard Dansco like albums that require hundreds of different coins in several albums for a complete Decimal collection, Not to mention the large number of Mint set only coins required.
These are Perfect for the novice collector as they would be relatively easy to complete just from pocket change at very little expense and have a good chance at introducing "New Blood" to the numismatic community at the same time :good:

Recommend it to Dion
I have mentioned it on the RAM forum, Lets see what happens.
Backdated to every year since 1966 they would be excellent what a great idea

Although that would be rather nice I don't see RAM going for that idea, They are more concerned with future sales than catering to collectors needs.
That being said providing these mini albums for future coins can only help their sales figures and hopefully they take the idea on board :)
It's a nice idea but what about storage?
At my place, coin storage is currently at a premium.

Hmmm
10% coins 90% packaging, I solved that particular dilemma ages ago :)
I think something like this would be ideal and more suited to the novice collector than seasoned collectors, Low in cost High in Fun. :good:

Yeah, but that didn't work out well for you, did it now? ;)
We still need to come up with the perfect storage system. Something not much bigger than the coins, which excludes all air, doesn't leach anything, is transparent, strong, cheap and easily expandable/transportable.
Tall order. I did find some Acrylic vacuum chambers, but they were like three grand for something the size of a shoebox! :(

My decimal collections are housed in 6 PP albums complete with covers and everything is PVC free and my pre decimal collection is in 4 PP albums.
There was NO fancy packaging with the pre decimals coins to bother me so I have NO problems or regrets storing my decimal coins Sans packaging as well.
All up these take up about the same amount of space as 2 blocks of beer and I am certain that the coins in these albums will be in far better shape than many of the coins still housed in the largely inadequate and bulky Mint Packaging, Especially the various $1 coins in those stupid cards with pockets that are open to the elements that cause the coins to tone or even corrode.
As a resale proposition YES I have lessened the value of my coins But at the end of the day my coins will still be in pristine condition and I am willing to bet that the coins stored in the original packaging won't be.
It's all a matter of Taste and each to their own but I personally much prefer my coins safe in archival grade albums where I can view them and access them with ease than worry about conserving the cardboard they came in to the detriment of the coin itself :ok:

Well, there are two aspects to this.
On the one hand is packaging which in itself is damaging. Like the early PVC wallets for example. This is no longer an issue.
On the other hand is packaging which while safe, fails to protect the coins. Like the cards with no backing, where the coin sits on cardboard, sometimes with open edges.
In regards to the first, I'm 100% with you. Get them out of there as quickly as possible, and either destroy, or perhaps better, isolate the nasty packaging inside something (like Mylar, preferably metallised) which won't let the fumes out.
In the second case however, what you really want to do is not destroy the packaging, but rather put something around it which will keep the atmosphere and any contaminants out. If the coins can be separated, as they can with those horrible open MYO folders, by all means wrap them separately. But if not, a suitable container which holds the unopened package is the way to go.
Intent is for a nice storage mini album for the mums n dads n kids to fill from coins in circulation
One of the first things that I did in this hobby of ours was to start a decimal collection, one of every coin for every year. Mainly of the circulating coins.
In the beginning there were many circulated coins and I slowly swapped them out for uncirculated coins. Soooo some 56 years after decimal coins were released that makes for a lot of coins.
In the end I made a folder myself to hold them all. I put the coins into a 2X2 and used photo corners to hold them in place. And I have cut out a hole in the page so both sides of the coin could be seen. I am currently waiting for Her Majesty to pass on to the next side so I can finally end the book.
One of the fun things that this has enabled me to do is to put in some interesting coins - Incused 50 cents, gold 1 and 2 cent pieces, Heritage 2005 50 cents, etc... I'm also writing up some interesting facts on post-it notes for each page. When I have all of the interesting facts finished I'll be writing them up neatly.
I must admit that I have enjoyed this process a lot.

Very nice, my only concern would be if any of the coins are directly in contact with the plastic. If they are all in 2x2s then there is no problem.

Yes they are all in 2X2's or their original capsule and the plastic is archive quality specifically designed for photos. So non-reactive to pretty much anything
Very impressive WavyTwenty :ok:
Pedro
Yes,great stuff.
Many hours of fun planning, devising and building. Looks good and hopefully keeps contaminants at bey.
Yay, finally finished the album!
