...that I've been missed.
Fear not, I'm still alive. Though that may or may not be a positive.
TBH, I got sick of some of the less-than-positive things about the forum, such as unexplained deletions, and just stopped bothering.
Add to that the fatigue of trying to find anything new in UNC condition, and the BS way the RAM does things, and, well, I've got better uses for my time.
Like the couple of weeks I just spent working at Confest, for example. Interesting new experience, and my talents appear to be appreciated. Hopefully I can do some good with future planning and management.
I really don't feel like reading 37 pages of new posts right now. Maybe ever. I'll probably be back at some stage, but if you want me, an email is most reliable, definitely. Followed by, much as I hate to admit it, Facebook (yuk :dodgy: :(). Yeah, yeah, I know, but its the most reliable way to converse with some people.
I for one miss ya Mate, I don't "do" facelick though :)
Good to see you post and I'm glad that you're well. I've missed you too McDuck (after all who else will confirm the Uluru cud for me once I post up some pics of the new one I'd found in a different position to the first one I posted ..... just have to find where I put it now :laugh2:).
I'm with Troutski on the facebook front, even though I have an account I don't go there very often.
welcome back and good-bye too xx
as life goes on it is better to invest your energy in what matters - I wish you all the best with your future ventures and trust that your parents are also doing well

I have a major problem with my Honeywell 6000,it won't recognize punch cards any more and the Missus wants the garage back,if i don't move it she's going, not sure what to do as i love that machine. :yahoo:
Well I didn't miss you at all Fulivo :mocking: well ok maybe just a little :blush2: ok maybe a little bit more than a little but don't let it go to ya head :) I've been pretty quiet myself but good to see you back :friends:

Yes, welcome back Fulvio (even if it is an intermittent thing).
Well just saying Jeff that little birdies sometimes lie so not saying anything then and not saying anything now :winkextra:

I'm not, really. But I do care quite a lot about a broad range of issues where there's some crossover, so I can put up with the more outrageous stuff. Like surviving on watermelon for the first 3 days because the $100,000 kitchen was staffed by rabid vegans and their inedible slop.
Hopefully by being involved I can make a tiny difference in future.

You can always replace a missus. Old Honeywells, not so much. As for punch cards, they're subject to heat damage. Try and find an old IBM 029 and duplicate the deck. The IBM will have more tolerance than the Honeywell.

well with enough watermelon and the company at the fest, you could claim to be going on a watermelon cleanse and charge to share the how to's of it all!!
vegan food can be very yummy
at times .....
a lot of vegans don't know how to cook or how to plant a seed
so they serve up crap
cause their mumma didn't teach them how to cook nor did their papa show them how to grow a garden
The 14th is the 2nd Thursday of the month so should be this week. I hope so or im going to be disappointed when I get there and have to turn around and drive home straight away.
If only I could understand the meaning of this topic.
I'm lost.

That's pretty standard for Chin Wag posts, innit? It started with me spitting the dummy and walking away, then people noticing I was gone. When I was told that, I poked my nose back in for a minute, and the crowd went wild, with the usual persiflage, badinage and diversionary banter we are reknown for.
Quotepersiflage
What a lovely word. The Germans have "schadenfreude" (which implies some slight nastiness) but we have "persiflage" (which implies just good natured mockery).
P.S. I have been away for some days and just arrived back home late last night -all the way to Beechworth, via Wagga, to assist in relocating a frail, elderly parent.
A very pretty part of the world around Beechworth Jeff.

Best bakery in Victoria!
Mum is settled in but still rather confused about it all. She has joined in with some activities (with polite but firm encouragement from staff) which is a rather promising sign.
Living also in an historic gold mining town I found Beechworth rather interesting -quite different in some regards but also many similarities. One noticeable Similarity is the number of buildings that were obviously once pubs. Gold mining must be thirsty work. And, no argument with the bakery declaration.
I love the latest, modern (NOT) RACV road service vehicles.

Oh memories, punched cards for input. Those were the days. My first computing experience was with Fortran 4 and undergraduates were only allowed to submit programmes on punched cards for overnight batching. Cards were hand punched with a stylus or sharp pencil. One mispunch and it was all over, red rover for that day. We, of course, soon learnt how to sneak access to card punch consoles and slip cards in with a priority run when nobody was looking.
Output was on fanfold paper.
And the chads were a bonus if you were looking to cause a little mayhem :mocking:

Great pics Jeff ....... FB or EK van? (I''ll go FB) ..... and then there's the EH (or perhaps EJ) one in the second photo. Can't see what the one in front of it is.
How super cool regardless.
The truck reminds me of a WWII International (complete with 303 spent shell soldered onto the dash) that we used to load spuds onto when I was a kid.
Also, a nice HJ-HZ wagon in the foreground. (RTS so I'll guess HZ)
Car heaven it seems!!!
Hope Mum thrives, great pics!
I'd lean toward EJ as they has the round lights where the EH had the long lights like the HR Uni :good:
WWII I didn't think you were that young :blush2: :mocking:
Oh and the old blue wagon could also be a HQ but who knows :scratch_one-s_head:
and I'd lean toward EK for the old yellow beast as the FB had slightly more of a peak to the headlights.

Sorry AJ; you're wrong. EH utes and vans retained the EJ rear quarter panels with the rounded tail light. Easiest way to tell them apart is the EJ had a rectangular fuel filler flap and EH was a round cap. Of course a look under the bonnet is a dead give away -EJ grey motor and EH red motor.
Very little difference in appearance otherwise. The front cowl air vents are a little different too.
I have seen one EH ute with EH sedan tail lights but that modification required replacing a fair amount of rear panel.
Uni is spot on. Your repaired eye must be working well to pick the RTS badge (only HZ on).The van in the first photo is an FB. Easiest way to tell is front parking lights are not incorporated in the grille (EK parkers are part of the grille which surrounds them). Lots of minor differences but only small cosmetic things. That is how Holdens brought out a new model each year without soending much money (and we fell for it).
Here is a nice restored van RACV EJ van (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_EJ#/media/File:1962-63_EJ_Van%3D%3D.JPG)
No worries Jeff we live and learn and you all have a few years on me so please forgive my naivety :beg:
Most of these car were well before my time but I like'em :)
Well my first ever car was an FC Holden and then, a few years later an EH Holden so models of that vintage are well known by me.
Of course a lot of parts are interchangeable between similar Holden models so it can be hard to tell if someone has swapped bits around or just used spares from a wreck.
For example, I have an FC ute to restore (retirement project) and have the following parts, that are basically just bolt in replacements, to use on it;
•EK steering column (shorter so wheel is in a more comfortable position and has a blinker switch.
•EH diff/axle assembly (identical except for more friendly diff ratio for just cruising around).
•HR front subframe (ball joint suspension superior to king pins). Need to use an EH front strut (it fits that subframe and matches FC rubber mounts).
•149 red motor (bolts straight into the HR subframe).
•HQ front disk brakes (bolt in with HR suspension but need to be mounted upside down on opposite side for steering arms to line up).
•Torana dual brake cylinder/ Booster (necessary with disk brakes).
•HQ wheels front and HZ wheels rear (14 inch, better tyre selection available and HZ wheels are fractionally wider). I will need to get the rear flanges redrilled to suit the HQ (chev.) stud pattern which is different to earlier models. Can't afford SLR Torana assembly whch has HQ stud pattern,
•3.3 VK Calais black motor head (needs two holes drilled to fit and gives 12 port efficiency -virtually same as late model Torana XU1 head).
I could also use the VK fuel injection (I do have that) but would prefer twin or triple downdraft strombergs (I have plenty of those) for a period look.
Will also adapt an electric wiper motor from a later model (The vacuum wipers are hopeless).
I also have some other parts that are not nearly so kosher;
•Nissan Skyline bucket seats.
•Nissan Skyline instrument cluster.
•Toyota Celica 5 speed, steel case gearbox.
I am keeping all the original parts so it could always be reverted to standard specification at a later date.
Now see what you have started Fulvio.
Wow what a project, sound nice :) Yes bloody Fulvio, he certainly is a trouble maker, unlike me

Funny you should mention that -my wife is very happy with my purchases from there.
The vans seem to have deteriorated since your photo. I sent copies to my wife's boss -local NRMA road service agent facetiously suggesting he should get some classy vehicles like that but, as yet, no response. He is, no doubt, thinking about some cutting reply.

A few days in Beechworth again this week.
The sweets shop and the bakery may not be the best in Australia -as claimed by others here- but they have to be rather high in the list of contenders.
The sweets shop at Hartley (Blue Mountains, not far from Lithgow) is rather high on my list but has been demoted by the Beechworth contender.
Hard to go past either. Especially if you're into fudge.
Although, when it comes to pies, the shop at the top of Macquarie Pass is a contender. So's Yattila Pies, come to think of it. And our very own Rolf's, in Blackburn Sth.
Quote from: 'Fulvio' pid='102794' dateline='1481804405'So's Yattila Pies, come to think of it.
If you're referring to Yatala Pies here in Qld, they're
not the same anymore.
We never used to go past the shop without stopping, but about 8-10 years ago, the shop must have changed hands as the pies they sell now are terrible. Might as well buy frozen pies and heat them yourself, they're that bad.
My son had a Big Dad's Pie shop for 3 years, and the owner of the franchise and manufacturer of the product just shut up shop and walked away with not a backward glance. All the BDP shops that are left now sell a product made near Buderim, (same as what's sold in Brumby's) and they are very average Pies to say the least.
Quote from: 'Nevol' pid='102805' dateline='1481837088'Yatala Pies here in Qld, they're not the same anymore.
Yeah, sorry, its been a while. Sorry to hear they've gone pear-shaped. This is all too common when someone with passion sells out to someone just out to make a buck, who ruins the business. :(
It does happen. For many years the pie shop at Canowindra consistently produced superior pies. Many people, myself included, made that a compulsory stop if traveling in the vicinity.
Then the original owner sold the business and retired. My next call was my last.
I make an awesome steak and kidney Pie :dance2:
Good on you trout.
My wife does an awesome steak and ale pie.
One of my friends on Facebook just reported that Robertson Pies (the one at the top of Macquarie Pass) is as good as ever. He had lunch there today, and raved about their cherry pie that was dessert. :)
Beechworth visit again this week. Sadly the Bakery standards have slipped -overpriced for some rather average products. They now have shops in towns all over the region so may have lost the individual touch. A factory operation now and might as just go to the IGA supermarket around the corner. The new IGA -replacing the old burnt out store- is rather smart.
However still popular as they had two queues for service when I popped in. Must admit that the breakfasts they were serving did look good compared to the cakes and pastries.
Their packaging for take away items proclaim "Australia's best bakery". I have my doubts.
The sweets shop is still the same so not all doom and gloom.
Quote from: 'JeffH' pid='116557' dateline='1535749888'The sweets shop is still the same so not all doom and gloom.
May need to get some more fudge before that goes pear-shaped too. :(
