Interesting to see how live auctions operate. Put my hand up once or twice but not for the Holy Dollar @ 195k plus commission !!:yahoo::scared::scared::scared:

i am sure his interest in maundy coins has lead to each of the 3 sets for sale far exceed estimate :dodgy:

As usual the highest prebid was where the live auction started on many of the lots

Yes I wonder about that too.
Could it be other people submitting bids before hand offline with the paper bid sheets?

It wasn't me Mate.
I was the other side of Wiluna, Busting my guts on a Sag Mill reline.
I didn't have the energy or the time to bid when I finished the job :)
What sets did I miss out on and how much did they sell for.
My impression was that bidding was strong overall.
Hard to find a good buy.
Especially when the images are not the best.
Hopefully this one will turn out OK.

These actually went pretty cheaply.
Nobles estimates were rather low I recon :ok:
I thought this was nice.

Yes, I've been caught out in the past by how they operate, and from my experience, winning on line bids have been at the maximum amount. They do encourage on line bidders to place their maximum bid; quote "The amount you leave must be the maximum amount you are prepared to pay for that item". To me, this suggests that your bid will be increased incrementally as other lower bids are placed, which I think is how they actually manage the process up till the end of on line bidding. But when the floor bidding commences, it appears the on line bids jump straight to the maximum bid irrespective of what level the on line bidding was at.
While ever they do this, every on line bidder can have no confidence their winning bid will be one increment above the under bidder. So what's it matter if the under bidder is on line, or on the floor.
IMO, they need to spell out their bidding structure much better than they have.

Which one was it ?
My first auction I sent in a very high postal bid for an item and didn't expect to have to pay anywhere near that amount. I watched the auction online and was shocked to hear them calling for bids with no response at all and suddenly the postal bidder representative called out my maximum bid and it sold for that amount. I know for fact there were no other bidders near my maximum bid. I was disappointed in the process.

That is pretty standard for Nobles. That's why you won't catch me putting postal
bids in on any of their auctions unless they are low
