I have one of these http://museumvictoria.com.au/collections/items/52612/medal-coronation-of-king-george-v-queen-mary-commemorative-australia-1911 which i am looking to list on ebay. I know theyre not particularly hard to find but i was just wondering what theyre worth?
Just done a quick ebay search for ya and come up with this, there seems to be a bit of a price differance but I suppose that's to be expected so hope it helps mate :) http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/sis.html?_kw=1911+Coronation+of+King+George+V+%26+Queen+Mary+Commemorative+Medallion+or+Medal&_id=261034678306&_sibeleafcat=39631&_isid=0&_fis=2&ssPageName=SRCH%3ACMPL%3AVS
Thanks AJ but i dont think any of those are the same as the one i have.
No worries mate, just tryin to help. Hope you have good luck with it :hi:
Thanks for the effort mate
I believe that all school children and many adults received the medallion to celebrate the Royals occassion free of charge.
I have detected several of these medallions, as well as other medallions, during my metal detecting days.
Regardless good luck on your sale.
The medal is listed in the Carlisle catalogue as number C1911/2. The 2008 price guide lists the commonest gilt bronze version at $10 in EF, noting that "die varieties exist" - the mintage, though not recorded, was obviously rather large. My coin club magazine ran an article in September 2007 outlining the six die varieties known to the author at the time.
I have a similar medal, but may have come from England.
It's in ratty condition, but I thought I would share it with you.
Anyone have any info on it. It's very soft, maybe silver or lead.
You notice they are not wearing crowns on this medal and it's
suppose to be celebrating them getting crowned.
