Is there anyone from this forum planning to attend the Royal Easter Show in Sydney over the next couple of weeks.
If there is, could I request that they get me NINE counterstamped coins pleas as the portable press will be there.
Cost of coins $5.00 each.
Please PM me if you can assist.
I would also like 3 counterstamp coins if possible.
Happy to pay beforehand.
PM if you can help.
Many Thanks
Grant
I have received nil PM so I take it I have to find another avenue to secure these coins.
I just got an email from RAM "Legends" telling me of this event, NO mention that they may reserve ( as they should) a few coins for collectors interstate that cannot attend. :dash1::dodgy:
A very good point trout.
I might have to have a go at them for not doing so.
Entry fee
Travel
Parking Costs
Rides
Food
I'm happy to buy from dealers without this added cost

You may as well bash your head against the wall Bruce
I am not to sure about that trout.
If enough of us have a go at the RAM something just might be done.
"Shaping your collection" is a RAM site that can be used for this purpose I believe :ok:
I will be getting into it sometime this weekend.
As these Sydney coins are to be a counterstamp and not a portable press coin I imagine that these have already been minted and packaged ready for the show.
I also imagine that there will be a limited mintage, possibly 3,000 the same as the Perth coin as well.
Therein lies the dilemma for RAM.
If they are offered through the "Legends" programme undoubtedly there will be some individuals that will rort any sort of limitations imposed on the sales and this will seriously affect the number of remaining coins RAM can offer at the show.
As these Show coins are traditionally available from the dealers that attend the show at an extra $5 per coin, We are still able to source them at a reasonable cost.
I have absolutely No problem paying an extra $5 for a coin I want that I am unable to pick up at a show myself.
That being said any unsold coins from the show should be offered to the "Leagends" members first up :ok:
These coins are counterstamped at the Royal Easter show on the portable press.
The mintage is unlimited

If this is the case then it shouldn't be any problem at all to be able to provide these on the RAM website after the event .

I'm a little confused but some would say that's not hard:dodgy: The way I see things, the terms counterstamp and portable press are one of the same. Privy marked coins have been pre packaged for various events though.
On the matter of accessibility of portable press coins, I'm thinking in the opposite direction, each to our own. Every time we see the portable/counterstamp press being advertised as being at a certain event, there is the assertion that these coins will only be available at the said event. To me that implies these counterstamped coins will not be available to those who don't turn up unless they are able to organise an associate to press a coin on their behalf.
Surprise, surprise, some dealers usually have plentiful supplies post event. IMHO the mint is missing a great opportunity to inject some excitement and mystique into the hobby which to me is sadly lacking at the moment, if indeed they are supplying the trade. Nothing like the thrill of the hunt.
I realise what I'm suggesting may make it more difficult for collectors to acquire these coins, and it may even make them more expensive in the long run, but it may also re inject some interest into this side of the hobby. I notice Goldseeker had no takers to his request for forum members attending the Sydney Show, it may have been different if these coins were harder to get.
Sometimes life is too easy, give me the hard road occasionally, this way I appreciate what I can scrounge. :yahoo:

Mate I live on the other side of the continent and 500 k's north of Perth So attending all the various Shows is an impossibility for Me and many other collectors in the same boat.
There should be a provision for us collectors that are isolated from the various events to be able to source the various counterstamped coins, Or don't we count

No doubt You and I are on opposite sides of this discussion, but as I intimated earlier I don't mind if acquiring these counterstamped coins is made more difficult, this would inject more interest IMO. But geographically, no one is at any more a disadvantage than anyone else, Perth is just as difficult to get to for those in the east, as Brisbane might be for people in the west for example.
Hypothetically, say the Mint did go down this path, knowing the ingenuity and determination that collectors of all things are capable of, I doubt there would be a problem. There would be all sorts of networks established by people prepared to help one another out, and requests for help from any particular forum member would be answered IMO.
Avoid the boredom, make things just a little more difficult, and so too a little more interesting :good:
Dealer allocation is the norm these days even for unique events.
Sydney Royal Easter Show S privy is no different

The Portable Press will be at the Royal Easter Show so the coins will be "counterstamped" and not "Privy Marked".
Yep true counterstamp not privy my error
but still dealers allocation apply so no rush
The show hasn't started yet and Downies have these counter stamped coins already for sale at $12.95.
I am betting that these are already counter stamped at the Mint and ready to rock and roll :dodgy:
I phoned the Mint yesterday and they said their was no allocations to dealers and that they were actually lining up at the show to purchase the coins that they are selling. :dodgy:

oh yes I can just see Belinda Queuing up for her coins :laugh2:
What a load of Baloney, I imagine the other dealers only get allocated what Downies didn't want
What happens is during quiet times at the show the staff press coins so they have a stock pile, you can go there & get as many as they have stamped if you want, I once had to get 50, so I ordered & paid for them & went off to enjoy the show when I got back they were all done.

Do you really believe that they are going to counterstamp up to 3,000 coins at the show ?

They'll do more than that, you should see the amount of people that get there, & they are next to the food hall that place is shoulder to shoulder with people.
They will do way more than 3,000
It's open 12 hours a day for over a fortnight they get close to one million people over there two weeks.
If you don't like crowds it's not the place to be.
Talking quantities, I had to get 640 counterstamped coins many years ago from the Melbourne Agricultural Show. The coin was the Year Of The Outback.
I arrived at the counter at about 9.40am and did not leave the until 6.00pm. I had pre organised payments of ten coins with the monies in the bank coin bags, $35.00 per bag and once on the press, I stamped ten at a time. When they were done and nobody waiting, did another ten coins etc.
In my hands I had 640 coins all stamped by myself and help from little kids as I told them I had worn out my finger pressing the button.
That number of coins were pressed in between the general public turning up and wanting coins.
To me, 3,000 coins would disappear in no time, say three days maximum.
So to me, the Sydney Pressed coins could become worth every penny, oops, I mean cents.

I always get these type of coins from various dealers so there is No reason for me to panic :)
Prospect Stamps and Coins are awesome they always go to the events and make a modest margin reselling to us collectors
We all know Downies tend to be overpriced and get all coins but I love the fact some dealers like Prospect don't take advantage with huge mark ups Kathy is such a lovely lady
