"This coin struck onto a nail is not the first coin to have such a distinction. A few examples of cents struck onto nails were discovered in the 1970s. The total number of similar errors, including this one, is thought to be approximately six."
42k for a bit of "Mint Sport".
I have a mental image of all the employees at the Mint in Canberra heading off to Bunnings for a supply of 3 inch nails :laugh2:
I would not call this an error, since how would such an item get into the mint press and how did it leave the US mint since they brag about their quality control.
Also would this have caused damage to the dies?
By the way, speaking of Bunnings, we are going to have the stores here in the UK since Homebase has been sold to Wesfarmers.
