Coins are in good condition and really nice clear overdates :good:
nice overdates there Serial
I have just received my Birthday present to myself. It is a digital microscope with 3.5 inch screen. I just might try it out on my overdated pennies and see how they compare with the above.
There are four identifiable die pairs of the six die pairs used for the 1933/32 Overdate penny.
(Source Holland)
The total mintage for the overdates 460,000
Die Pair 209 (Type 3) 140,000
Die Pair 210 No ID 4,000
Die Pair 211 No ID 4,000
Die Pair 212 (Type 1) 127,000
Die Pair 213 (Type 2) 159,000
Die Pair 214 (Type 2A) 26,000

Image for Type 3 is not really required, there is No protusion into the lower bowl and I can't find my examples.:blush2:
Of note is extensive Horizontal die polish marks to the left on Type 2A and the thinner downward protrusion from the tip of the top bowl.
Image of three of the Types.

Coin 2 is a Type 1
Coin 1 is probably a Type 3
There is too much crud in the lower bowl to absolutely type it.
There could be the Two Prong Spike (Type 1) hiding under the crud.
(It is not either of the Type 2 coins from what I can see)
If it was mine I'd give it a couple blasts with WD40/RP7 in the date area to try and get a better look, just don't dig and scratch at the crud, let the spray do the work. :good:
(The coin is not Slab bound I presume)
I was thinking of slabbing them. Worth it?

I would say no.
The Type3 would No-Grade and the Type1 might go VF but the coin itself raw is a $25 coin and value wise not worth spending the slabbing costs on.
To add the variety to a set register I'd be looking for an example that would at least Grade AU50+.
Also I don't think PCGS recognise the different types as seperate varieties.
Just my thoughts others may disagree.

Great pics
Great work Rob, I was blissfully unaware that there were different varieties of this overdate.
Great images as well.:yahoo:
Very Well done Mate :good:
Kudos to you Fordie, I fully realize the amount of work involved in collating a presentation like this. The die polishing marks have allowed me to identify one of my overdates as type 2A.!
I also noticed a 'dot' between 'A and L' of Australia which is noted in Renniks as 'rare'.
I am now in the process of checking the 30 odd 33's in the spares tub as I feel that I may have overlooked stuff whilst concentrating merely on 'overdates'.!
Thanks for the push.:good:
