The Mintmark Dollars
My attempt to reduce the stress.
If, like me, you can only achieve true happiness when your collection is complete and that has to include all "mintmarks" you'll have to endure reading this whole blog. You might need a couple of strong short blacks half way through though.
There seems to be some confusion, the reasons for which are not hard to fathom as we shall see, over the Royal Australian Mint's use of 'mintmarks' on its decimal coinage. We discuss here only the familiar base metal coinage and are not interested in proof or precious metal types. Just the proper coins. The saga begins in1993.
1984-92. The calm before the storm. A sensible three commemorative dollars in nine years. One of these and three of the standard mob-of-roos coins remain uncirculated, so are worth seeking out. Collectors are looked after with the annual mint set and a package or two. The mint is there to make stuff to buy things with.
1993. Suddenly our staid and bureaucratic RAM, no doubt fired up with entrepreneurial zeal after a few stormy board meetings, goes all commercial and introduces three coins of identical design to the circulated Landcare dollar except for a tiny letter raised on the field of the reverse. These first mintmarks are C (Canberra), S (Sydney) and M (Melbourne) but they are "mintmarks" in name only as all emanate, as they always will, from the one mint in Canberra. They are sold in individual envelopes at a premium. Mintmark coins are not made for circulation.
1994. This year the circulated dollar is the standard mob-of-roos and the same three mintmarks as last year are applied to an uncirculated Dollar Decade design. Still keeping things pretty simple.
1995. A fourth mintmark (B for Brisbane) is added to a noncirculating Banjo Patterson commemorative, and only a standard coin is circulated.
1996. The only dollar produced this year is a Henry Parkes commemorative. The plain coin is circulated and five mintmark versions are sold in collector packages, the newcomer being an A for Adelaide. Profits are picking up.
1997. A Kingsford-Smith design is used for the same five mintmark coins. The circulated coin also commemorates Kingsford-Smith but the design is different. Clever!
1998. The standard dollar is released for circulation and the five mintmarks are applied to an uncirculated Howard Florey commemorative.
1999. There are now two commemoratives. The circulated coin is the Older Persons dollar and the mintmark dollar (Last Anzacs) comes again in the same familiar five mintmark versions. Stay with me.
2000. At last, a more interesting year. Perhaps someone at the mint is getting bored because the first novelty is the reissue of the Last Anzacs mintmark coin of last year, now with the new date but no mintmark, along with another unmarked commemorative (Victoria Cross).
Then, a standard coin is circulated (in small numbers), while there are two different mintmark designs. The HMAS Sydney coin comes with C and S mintmarks only and the Olymphilex dollar uniquely has the words either CANBERRA or SYDNEY inscribed on the rim but rather unhelpfully for those with display albums has no distinguishing symbol on the face of the coin.
2001. A premonition of things to come, although mintmarks are sparse this year. There is a profusion of commemoratives, two of them circulated. The mintmark coin is for the Army Centenary and again appears with C and S mintmarks only. A Navy and an Air Force coin complete the fighting trio but are not mintmarked.
2002. Back to sanity, but not for long. One circulated commemorative and no standard coin. There are 4 marked versions of the same Outback commemorative, but only the C marked coin bears a raised mintmark. The S, M and B versions show for the first time what have come to be titled counterstamps – raised letters in a countersunk circle. They are still called "mintmarks" by ignorant yobbos including all dealers and collectors, the staff at the Mint and everybody else.
2003. Two circulated commemoratives and another uncirculated, in addition to the marked coin. This time all four Coat of Arms dollars (C, S, B, M) have counterstamps rather than the raised mintmarks.
Counterstamps in ensuing years will be either (a) included in the design at the mint by incorporation in the master die, or (b) stamped into to an already minted unmarked coin using a mobile press at city coin shows. The two production methods can sometimes be distinguished by the mobile stamped coin having a shallower and less distinct marking, but that's far too subtle for me. Mobile coin presses are not perfect, so occasionally a coin escapes without its counterstamp and becomes very expensive. There's no profit in that for the mint, so these are rare occurrences. Better check that collection.
2004. A standard coin is circulated and the one commemorative carries five different counterstamps. There are the usual four, the fifth being rather exciting if you are easily excited. We witness the first appearance of a letter specific to the commemoration, though the E is for Eureka rather than Exciting.
2005. A standard and a commemorative dollar are circulated. The (different) marked commemorative bears the familiar four counterstamps plus a G for Gallipoli. I believe some spoilsport thought he'd make a killing by buying up and stockpiling as many Gs as he could at the time, so that version is not so easy to find, unless of course you happen to be the bloke who did it.
2006. The idea of a specific mintmark seems to have got them stirred up at the mint, because with the marked dollar series this year the fifth counterstamp is (gosh!) a two-initial one: TV is short for something really worth celebrating (good guess). The letters barely fit into the tiny circle. This is also, incidentally, the year that a pad printing machine makes its dubious debut, progressively introducing colour printed coins to the collector's ever-expanding shopping list. None of these - well, at least the dollars - have marks though (so far...please!)
2007. Things are getting complicated in dollar land, but mercifully the counterstamp dollar this year comes with just the four: C, S, B and M. A total of fifteen different 2007 dollars are the requirement for a complete collection and that cheeky colour printer has probably paid for itself already.
2008. 19 dollar types are the addicted collector's burden this year, including seven versions of the Coat of Arms "mark" coin. The raised mintmark is back for the C version only. S, M and B are each represented by two coins; one with the familiar counterstamp and the other with a new invention, the privymark.
Privymarks consist of a letter incused on a raised square and are being introduced because, as somebody must have pointed out, only the mint of issue, which for real coins is now always Canberra, can rightly put its own mint mark on a coin. It being the only mint. Just to clear that up.
2009. Another cascade of unmarked special designs as well as the standard dollar. Time for that coffee. The Citizen Centenary commemorative comes simply with the C mintmark and S, B and M privymarks - all, as now seems to be the fashion, in a single package. But don't relax, there's more: an otherwise normal looking mob-of-roos dollar bears a mysterious "master mintmark" like a letter C with a kangaroo on top of it, and if that is not enough a second version of the same oddly marked coin gets in addition a C counterstamp. Are there no rules?
2010. There are 9 different marked coins of the same Coinage Centenary design this time. One package has the same four marks as last year; the other introduces four new privymarks: A, P, H, and D for the capital cities beginning with those initials. In addition there is one C counterstamped version. Bet you're wide awake now.
2011. Now things begin to get really silly: 13 marked coins. The two packaged Ram's Head sets each have the same 4 marks as last year while the mobile mint is trotted around the country to press no fewer than five counterstamps: S, M, B, A and P. This of course is not to mention the other 14 different unmarked designs. So please don't mention them.
2012. This year the second set of privymark coins has apparently, and to muted applause, been permanently abandoned leaving just the C mintmark plus S, M and B privymark set. But there are again five counterstamps: S, M, B and P while Adelaide misses out (yes, I know) in favour of a novel "bluebell" counterstamp , all on a Wheatsheaf design dollar. The bluebell counterstamp dollar sports a C mintmark as well, so the bluebell has to find another place on the coin (just accept it). As an aside, the $2 coin gets its first annual outing as a commemorative, including a C mintmark version. Is all this beginning not to matter?
2013. Sorry, can't stop now. Among the expected profusion of coins we have the now familiar mintmark and privymark 4-coin set and S, M, B and P counterstamps, making nine Holey Dollar dollars in all. A counterstamp (M) has been applied to a commemorative 50c coin for the first and so far only time. Please, not a prediction that the 50c will one day be going the way of the dollar?
2014. Is there at last some glimmering of a pattern? The nine Terra Australis dollars have the same set of marks as last year. But don't be fooled – in addition there are two counterstamped versions of a circulated Anzac 100 Years commemorative: M and AL, the latter for Albany in W.A. whence the first Anzac troops sailed. And no, it doesn't stop there. The perfectly innocent standard mob of roos comes in for every indecency known to the mint including colour printing, that plus the wrong metal and, as if those weren't enough, the counterstamp (S) treatment as well. Where will it all end?
2015. Whew! Nearly there. The 2015 four-coin package has the now familiar marks and there are S, M and B counterstamps as well – Perth's turn to be left out. The first novelty for 2015 is the reappearance of the funny standard mob-of-roos dollar. Five otherwise normal ones now get (only just) embellished with the privymarks S, M, B and P – microscope handy? – along with a unique privymark depicting a walking figure, the Ampelmann symbol of German pedestrian crossings. Don't ask.
Then in case the excitement is wearing off, three more commemoratives put in a late showing, each with its own counterstamp; a football one stamped M, an S-counterstamped rugby commemorative and a weird reminting of last year's Anzac 100 coin with a "map of Australia" counterstamp. You'll need a bit of imagination. And I hope you're not from Tasmania. As an encore, we get the first and only counterstamped 20c coin, but that's another, not guaranteed to stay short, story.
Incidentally, the dollar count for 2015 is an alarming 51 among the total of 93 different 2015 coins that harassed completists must acquire, assuming they haven't long ago given up, and that of course excludes proof and precious metal coins, besides all the stuff the Perth mint churns out. Just a thought: I'm hoping the printing of 41 different coloured coins this year, and again that doesn't include numerous proof and precious metal coins, has worn the pad printer out and that a long maintenance break is in order. Dare I hope the same might befall the mobile press?
2016. Be very afraid....
David Miller.
Coin collector (but considering reconsidering).
Don't forget the Henry Parkes had a special overprinted Folder for the Canberra Show with the "C" Mintmark. This makes six foldered coins in total for 1996 Henry Parkes Issue.
2000 Last ANZAC coins were for the issue of PNC's only.
2003 Should read Korean War and not Coat of Arms. Further there are two varieties of the B,M,S issues as some were done on the Heavy press at the RAM whilst some were done on Portable Presses at shows etc. Although all the impressions are Counterstamped, some are deeper that others because of the pressure used on the two presses are much different from one another.
Have you included the $1 coins from the Baby Sets?
I am fully aware of your attempts to maintain a full $1 Collection as I am pulling my hair out trying to secure the lot to maintain my full $1 25mm Alum Br collection. (I have the 26 x Alum Br baby set and the coloured semi prrof set of which all have the same COA at no 400. Whether I purchase the 2016 sets is another thing).
I am still getting to read your above post as there is a lot in there to absorb and check out.
Regards
Quote2016. Be very afraid....
not any more, after the ABC issue I wrote this series off as being far too much a pain in the arse.
My collecting is far more relaxed now without the constant hassle of trying to source all the stupid couterstamps and whatever :yahoo:
Been there Done that and now "Over It" :dance2:
I've never had a complete set of dollar coins at any point during my collecting life and I doubt I ever will.
I have a complete set of circulation dollars plus a number of NCLT found in circulation and quite a few errors of various types.
Anything more borders on madness.
Also include to the tally 2015 dated 500 AFL and 500 NRL Coloured $1
People who visited the RAM stands at the Melbourne and Sydney locations during Grand Final week were given the opportunity to enter a draw to win one of these.
Well done David, have missed a couple, but a huge A for your blog.
You have summed it up nicely & I get it.
Forum needs more people like you David well said
You can say that again. I am one of those collectors who have just given up. I will be keeping a single set of all the circulation-only coins in UNC and the rest are going to eBay. In fact, I have a couple of collections on there already. The number of issues each year has simply put coin collecting out of the reach of my pocket, and I'm moving on.
I made a decision long ago to flick anything that was pad printed/coloured, and just stick with 25mm al/br including any single NCLT. Even so, it all added up to 22 coins this year, which did include one each from the visitor gallery presses, and I did do a Poppy Dollar.
I do like the idea of counterstamped coins, I just wish the RAM would cease their habit of pre stamping dealer allocations, and leave it up to collectors to source these coins the best way they can even if it does make for the odd disappointed individual. IMHO the series would be much more interesting if run this way. Yeah...I know, nothing in it for the RAM.
Do you mind if we add to it Dave?
These are only minor additions
In 2005 there were two mobile presser's in Sydney ANDA & Pacific Stamp
in 2007 there was an extra "C" mobile press from the Canberra collectors fair
in 2013 there was three mobile presser's in Sydney
Royal Easter Show
ANDA show
Rotary International Convention at Olympic park
(Same folder & same coin) but what's a full set if you don't have a full set, & does this have to be there for a full set. LOL
Oh & the
2012,2013,2014 & 2015 Ethel C Pedley from the Baby set's
One day somebody will come up with a full set, that wont be me because I refused to buy the 26 alphabet coins from last year & the ridiculous animals of war 'coins?' which look like kiddies tokens so my collection no longer becomes relevant as there is a hole of some 30 coins.
I have a full set of those stupid ABC coins I just chucked in a box .
Not only the sheer volume of coins put me off this particular series ,I have an issue with the quality control as well.
At $15 a pop you should get a reasonable coin but that wasn't the case with these :(

do you think $15 is too much to pay for a Dollar coin?
The amount they churn out & the quality of same has put me off.
QuoteThe amount they churn out & the quality of same has put me off.
Me too which is an absolute shame as I really enjoyed collecting this series previously.
Ah well at least it made me look at other avenues to collect and I now have a half reasonable collection of Brit Indian coins along with a growing collection of Brit Maundy coins :good:

You can say that again.
Today I picked up a bunch of packages from the RAM and RM.
RAM quality crap, as expected. And at a substantial premium.
RM £20 silver coins are stunning, especially for a business strike at face value.
The guys in Canberra have a lot to learn I'm afraid.

Or is that another argument for another day.

No point in arguing about it just vote with your feet and refuse to buy from the mint until they lift their game, I have :ok:
I used to buy just about everything they produced each year but NOT this year .
The RAM will have to forgo my clientele until they start to produce and sell high quality collector coins that reflect the money they charge for them in future .
I refuse to pay good money for coins you could quite likely find a better example in your pocket change at face value.
If they want to sell coins primarily produced for collectors then more attention to detail is required in the minting and packaging process to eliminate the awful bagmarks and scratches found on most of the latest offerings :ok:
For any concerns, this is the RAM contact details

Hope this helps
Surely to goodness these asdverse comments re the RAM's products should be given through to the RAM via there online forum. Don't ask me for the email address as I don't have it.
A lot of comments re RAM questions is that they don't answer back. I have emailed the RAM many times and I have always got a response, maybe not an immediate response but I have received responses.
It's ok to air one grieviences on this forum but surely the RAM should be advised as well.
The only reason I am cutting back is the quantity of coins that the RAM expects us collectors to buy in a single year.

I have done that via the "Shaping your collections" RAM forum :ok:
Here is what Dion Buck had to say
QuoteDion Buck said:
Just to refresh for those curious about the finish on the 2016 UNC sets;
** quite interested to know how this set sits with collectors, when looking back over the past 50 years of unc sets you can see a very definite rise in the shine of the coin, this year we tapered it right back to match the old coins, thanks for the feedback already.
Sounds like an excuse for not ensuring that the press pressures were correct and the shoddy workmanship preparing the blanks to me :dodgy:
Quote from: 'Goldseeker' pid='82385' dateline='1449627259'It's ok to air one grieviences on this forum but surely the RAM should be advised as well.
I had a long chat with Ross at Malvern earlier this year, and a number of email conversations since. I've also expressed opinions to assorted staff members in person and on the phone over the years.
One thing stands out.
They don't take any notice whatsoever!
The government wants to sell everything, in the mistaken belief that a) private industry does it better and cheaper, and b) a handful of cash now is better than ongoing steady income.
To that end, they are grooming all their remaining operations for sale. Including the Mint. And that means maximising the profitability at all costs.
this reminds me of a friend of mine, a mechanical engineer who accepted the job of running a major plastic bag manufacturer in Melbourne which they wanted to offload. He ramped up production so they were running flat out 24/7, and the hugely increased volumes (much of the product stockpiled or discounted) resulted in a doubling of the sale price. The vendors were ecstatic, and he scored a sizable bonus.
The way I see it, the mint is in the same boat. They're churning out as much crap as they can, with no regard for quality, and they seem to think there is a bottomless pit of gullible buyers to soak it all up. And they don't want to hear what those buyers have to say.
Lost cause, I reckon.
I guess the Buck stopped there .... :read:
There is a difference between talking to another person and putting something in black and white.
verbal complaints con be misguided as they pass on but something in writing can't be mis-read.

These were my comments on that thread.
QuoteI am hoping that the Baby set coins are in better condition than the Mint sets which I feel that the quality of the coins is pretty ordinary.
The Proof set of the "Change Over" coins are exquisite in quality and presentation and it is a shame that some care wasn't taken to produce the same type of quality product in the Mint sets.
Another two $1 to add to the 2015 list
No mintmark al/br NRL and AFL dollar coins, different to the carded types at the grand final venues
thousands of people from around the world buy coins from the mint
with a small community actually collecting the same coins
now with ebay and dodgey security company distribution - a handful make a lot of money flipping the new and popular releases (esp. bags and rolls of circulation coins)
the mint produce the odd small mintage releases and I reckon that those are targeted at the 'collector market'
and those are often the proof editions i.e. kangaroo at sunset
but any of us who have been around know that those limited editions don't necessarily become the valuable coin of the future
it is circulation/errors stuff like the $1 mule, incused flags that grows in collector value
the mint can only do what it does as a business
the likes of Ross are trying their best to keep the existing staff in their jobs, making the business be self sufficient whilst under the umbrella of a government/s that will sell all and every Australian publicly owned asset for short term financial visions
you can chew off Ross's ear but at the end of the day he reports to Treasury and they act under the direction of the PM of the day - and that all depends on however that PM wishes to express their whim or their contempt for the Australian people
Everyone Loves to blame the government for every action taken by a CEO of a publicly owned enterprise, But the truth of the matter is these CEO's make the decisions they are paid to make and the gov 99% of the time simply signs off on that decision.
We can yell from the tree tops all we like but the collecting community in Australia is a "toothless Tiger" because we are NOT united as a group and RAM quite frankly don't give a Rats arse about a few collecting individuals that are unhappy about what they are doing and the quality of their product.
The ONLY way we can make an impact on RAM is to NOT buy their inferior or irrelevant coins.
I am NOT advocating that we don't buy anything just the inferior quality items and the multiple editions of the same design :ok:

Will do interest, but may be a while. Have just spent quite some time gathering info. I don't collect the Alphabet series or proofs of any type, and very few coloured coins so the list may not appeal to some.

When finished how about putting it up here.
Happy new year to you
Will do interest, but may be a while. Have just spent quite some time gathering info. I don't collect the Alphabet series or proofs of any type, and very few coloured coins so the list may not appeal to some.

Well that should work out fine, as most people did not collect the ABC series & the coloured coins are becoming children's tokens at best & of course proofs need not come into calculation.
While sifting through various sources of info I came across a 2001 Federation dollar in a Sherwood mint set that may display a slightly different obverse to what is described in the only information I could find on this subject at TheSandpit.net.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Talk about a head that's done in, I had sherridan instead of Sherwood, huh...where did that come from:scratch_one-s_head:

This excellent site refers to two obverses, large and small, but I'm thinking there may be what could be called a medium size as well. Would appreciate any comments on this as sometimes we only see what we want to see. The key indicator is the distance between the lettering of the obverse legend and the rim.
Top to bottom is Small Obverse with IRB joined, Medium Obverse??? with IRB joined, and Large Obverse with IRB spaced. Thanks :)

Cool, nice find auto and lovely pic's mate :good:
Cool work Auto and excellent pics. I know I did my head in with the 1999s at one stage, I think I ended up with a reasonable example of the 3 for that year. I got a 1999 10c in change the other day with the legend almost right on the rim so I'm going to have to dig out my other 1999s to see if they are the same.
Could it be that the thickness of the rims at the points indicated are different from the thickness of the rims directly opposite points indicated.
It could a slightly offset stamp from the presses.
Some of the letters seem to be closer but not all of them. The U looks like a bit doubled too.

There are indeed two different types of 1999 10c piece with the text close to the rim being quite a bit scarcer.
Thanks for that Mr T. (I know the 10c stood out like the proverbial when I looked at it ....... must have been all the looking I'd done in the past with the 1999 $1s ..... Feathers' web page was very handy in that instance).

No worries - keep an eye out for the 1999 $2 coins too, though in that case the text far from the rim is the rarer one.

Thanks goldie, I'm thinking even if the die was slightly offset, so long as it doesn't overlap the planchet completely, there would still be an inner rim as a reference point. My knowledge of the minting process is zilch though.

Thanks MT, When looking at the smaller pics it seems to me there is no doubt, especially when comparing the distance to the inner rim from the outermost extremity of the crown, but, when looking at the larger images I'm less confident. Even so, I'm still thinking the middle coin is a medium sized obverse, but need to give the eyes a rest and revisit another time.
Thanks Guys :)

Yes you're right, from the bigger pictures it does look like there is a difference, even with the text.
Have you tried physically measuring? I know that's what I ended up doing (measuring on my computer screen using a digital microscope) when trying to figure the 1999 $1 obverses.
I think MT is right and try and measure it all if you can, be interesting to see what your finding are as there does appear to be some differences there but like you said things can appear that way and sometimes photo's can be very deceiving  Good luck with it auto :good:
This has been a hugely entertaining threat to read. $1 set was the corner stone of collecting days...I was sure I'd get there in the end. I wish those that are still pursuing this avenue the best of luck. There are still some nice $1 being produced.
I would like to know how many collectors that have the 2015 ABC series, also have or will be getting the 2016 series. If any.
I won't be buying the ABC series or any 2016 series. The voluminous approach has soured my interest. I am so disenfranchised on this line of collecting that I am now actively divesting all my $1 with the exception of the odd one or two that I find attractive.
I hope that others can still find happiness in collecting these coins. Some of them still do have great appeal.

I have the two sets of the ABC coins for 2015 but I just can't justify or find the funds to buy the 2016 sets.
I have to draw the line somewhere.
In fact, if the RAM could supply me a set of "proof" coins with COA Numbered 400 well then I just might change my mind.
Regardless, storage space as well has to be taken into consideration.
The only thing any good about the 2015 ABC set is they will be scarce-rare as a full set of 26 coins in the future , This is because they were so unpopular few collectors bothered to get a full set IMHO.

Are you suggesting that by getting the 2016set & having the 2015set
would/could be a good thing?:ok:
Have been putting together a stand alone list of al/br dollars as a quick reference, it basically reflects my dollar collecting interest . The list doesn't include proofs, the only coloured coins are the 2013 Black Caviar and the 2014 coloured MOR, and certainly not any of the ABC coins. There are a handful of varieties, but not including cuds or rotated dies etc. Amazingly there are 311 in total, and I may have missed the odd one. Will try to post it when finished.
I am in the process of selling my slabbed dollar coins and still have one PP album full of other 25mm dollars along with a heap of other coins still in the mint packaging.
I also have a full set of the 25mm silver proofs including the 2016 sov design, these I think I will keep.
I did not get the ABC silver proofs because I don't consider them a worthy addition to this hard and expensive type set :ok:
Many collectors still persevere with this set of 25mm dollars and I admire their tenacity ,
The sheer number of different coins minted in 2014-2015 became "overwhelming" for me and I called it quits.
I do feel sad that I have lost interest in these but I have since put my resources and efforts into different areas of numismatics and I am once again enjoying my collecting.
I hear what all the responses above are saying.
But, have you advised the authorities as to why you are not collecting certain items any more.
I have let AustPost know as to why I am not collecting PNC's anymore and the main reason was "there are too many issues each year to keep the collection up to date".
Going by comments made by Aust Post Philatellic, they have said that they intend to reduce the number of PNC's issued each year. (I trust that they are not just talking about the quantities issued per issue here).
Maybe a note in the right place just might get some results.
I have sworn off these bloody 25mm dollar coins, well almost
This one is far too nice to "Pass" on, Thanks RG  :)

smashing coin I reckon they have hit the jackpot this year with this one
Al/Br Dollars up to and including 2015
A little while back I mentioned I was attempting to put together a stand alone list of al/br dollars minus proofs and coloured coins. Thankfully my lovely Wife was able to decipher, file and transfer my barely legible scribblings to the correct place. The majority of info being gleaned from other sources, particularly the blog.
The fact is there are three coloured coins included because to me they are important and that's who the list is for:angel: ie. 1913 Black Caviar, 1914 Coloured Roo, 1915 Red Poppy. Sorry to the variety, cud, die crack and clock face people, but did include 1993 Land Care with cud in waves, the 2000 Mule of course, as well as the different sized obverses from 1999 and 2001.
Also included are all the early gallery press dollars which are pretty much indistinguishable unless you actually happened to be there, and many did make that special trip, so they know what they have and therefore should be included IMHO. And no, I don't have all of them :cray: so still looking out for that honest seller who did visit the RAM and pressed a particular coin(s) :dodgy:
Have done my best to keep errors to a minimum, and in keeping with the blog, the various sources of each coin has hopefully been shown.

Yeah,+1 from me as well,a lot of time has gone into that.
Thanks one and all for the positive comments.
With regard to the gallery press coins for 1999 and 2001, I wasn't exactly certain if the small/large obverse, and IRB spaced/joined respectively were appropriate, so I made an entry for each. It may have been better if just one entry was made and labelled either or either. Now I'm confused
The above spreadsheet is similar to my own but I haven't updated it for several years now.
Now that the above is up, I shall have to update mine.
The above looks good with a bit more info that I have in mine.

Nothing to do with me Goldie, my wife is the guru at our place. She typed up this 7 point how to.
Step by Step process to convert a document prepared as an Excel spreadsheet to a JPG/JPEG/GIF/PNG format.
Prepare your Excel spreadsheet then follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Copy the cells of the Excel spreadsheet into a Word document, once the table is displayed as required "save" as Word format (.doc).
Step 2:
Open a new blank Word document, and ensure that you mirror the page set up (margins & orientation) of the file you have just saved in Word.
Step 3:
Return to the Word document where you have saved the "table or information" then go to "Save AS" and save to a PDF format.
Step 4:
With the PDF file open, go to the menu on the top of the document, and click on "Edit".
This will bring up a drop down menu.
Choose "take a snapshot".
Step 5:
Position your pointer at the spot on the page where you want to start the snapshot from, then click and drag across the area.
Once you release your finger off the mouse you will get the message box stating "a copy has been taken".
Step 6:
Return to your blank Word document and click paste. The snapshot you have just taken of the PDF "will paste into the document as a picture".
Step 7:
Place your mouse pointer anywhere on the "picture" and "right click".
A drop down menu will appear, select "save as a picture".
A copy of the file will be in your "picture manager" and you will be required to name and save the file.
Choose whichever a JPG/JPEG/GIF/PNG format you want and you will have a file that you can publish on the Coin Forum in the required format.
Thanks for that. Will download, print and give it a try.
Bloody good effort Mate :good:
That spreadsheet would have taken a lot of effort and time to compile, Well done Mate :yahoo:
What does the "X" refer to on the sheet ?
Are these the coins you already have or are they the ones you need ?
Thanks trout, it was a combined effort between the Wife and myself, I did the easy bit like gather the info and she did the rest. The X's represent the various sources for each coin as per the header for each column. The coins I'm missing are some from the gallery press between 1995 and 2001 which are going to be difficult to find, although, one of the forum members kindly offered any that were spare, so I'll have to get to it and see what I'm missing.

Are you after UNC coins in Folders or just the loose coins?
The reason I ask is that I have some spare Mint Marked coins if interested.

Thanks for asking Goldie. What I'm looking for are genuine MYO coins from the RAM gallery presses for years 1996 Parks Cmm, 1997 K. Smith (small head) Cmm, 1998 Howard Florey Cmm, 1999 Last Anzacs Cmm, 2001 RAAF NOmm, 2003 Korea Cmm, 2004 Eureka Cmm, 2005 Gallipoli Cmm.
As you know, there were thousands of mm dollars for all years sold at the RAM shop counter as well as by dealers, that some collectors mistakenly thought were gallery press coins. I think it will be a difficult task sourcing coins from people who did actually visit the mint and pressed a dollar in these years.
I went to RAM in 2005 and pressed some I'll have to go to the storage place to refresh and see what I have
Sorry I can't help with any of those that you have listed. A wee bit early of when I started collecting.
Good luck.

Im looking at expanding my collection of these as this is my only one, but i would like to have 5 or so if any of you have any and need some extra cash get at me :)
The MULE Above is pretty good however it is missing the double rim around the 10-11 o'clock position. Most of my Mules show the same displacement to the upper left of the coin.
I wish you luck if you intend to noodle for mules as I have noodled over 2.5million coins for a grand total of 43. Out of those 43, maybe 5 or 6 show a full double circle.
Having sold a few on EBay over the years, I would say yours would fetch between $350-$450. If you want to sell it, put it on EBay when there are not too many others on at the same time.
Hells Bells, Goldie that is an impressive set of noodling numbers! :good:
Pedro
Actually the price of these has risen quite a bit lately and the minimum sale price is probably now
beyond $500 even for a lowly graded coin. $540 was the lowest sale price I could find on ebay after
a quick history search so the well centred and higher graded coins will be priced accordingly

Hi GS. Sorry, when I said I had all the 2015 ABC etc coins I meant only have the aluminum bronze versions. I don't collect the silver ones. I have to draw the line somewhere.
