Hello,
I got a letter telling me my $30 plan was going to be $40. Now I dont like them, but the coverage is what I pay for. And I dont normally use $30 worth. Now I thought we had a contract of sorts, and both parties have to agree to a change.
I have been thinking about telling them I have changed the plan to $20 a month. And only pay that. They are dodgy in many ways, but this one is the icing on the cake. What do you think ?
Standard Telstra contract that you agree to when you sign up with them, Telstra is allowed to change contract by giving 30 Days written notice of change, don't like it....... Tough
Tough,
I will change both my services. They are greedy and incompetent. I was retrenched again, and dont want to waste money. The fact that you side with them also tells a story. The bold type is also not polite. Go back and hide under your rock. Goodbye all.
I have had a $10 plan for about 20 years and I received a letter from Telstra a couple of weeks ago, informing me that the plan was now going up to $20. Unlike the $10 plan though, which had 50 free text and pay for calls as you use them, I now get unlimited text and calls. No data though, but I don't use the internet on my phone anyway.

Now, now, don't take it like that.
Merely a statement of fact. OK, so the bold text needed quotes around it, but basically that's how it goes with any corporation.
Except... not quite...20 years ago, I had a Tel$tra 'customer service' droid laugh at me, saying
"We're Telstra, you can't take your business elsewhere". Took me a couple of years, but I took my $10,000 a year worth of business away from them, and will never, ever, go back. Despite having many friends who work there.
I'm actually in the middle of a dispute with Optus right now. Started with a couple of letters that arrived within days of each other.. one telling me my $5/mth postpaid mobile
(which has never been used in the 10 years I've had it, it only exists to get me a $10 bundle discount) would be going to $0/mth
(and dearer calls, natch). The other said that my $49.50 Cable Internet was going to $55.
So I complained, of course, and to cut a long story short, a total of about six hours on the phone, another couple hours in an Optus shop and a call to the TIO finally made me happy.
• They gave me a $10/mth discount on the internet.
• They promised to add free mobile calls to the unlimited bundle
• They agreed to transfer the $300 of prepaid mobile credit to the internet account
(and cancel the prepaid mobile)• They gave me a new SIM for the postpaid, and I've got 5 weeks to notify people of the new number.
The only remaining unresolved issue is whether I can snag my old prepaid number back once it gets cancelled. The people I asked were unsure, so it will take more work.
Anyway, point is, you CAN generally negotiate something with most companies. Might be a matter of talking to the right person of course... One of my friends was the go-to problem solver at Telstra... the buck literally stopped at her desk, and she could make absolutely anything happen, IF the situation warranted it. Pretty stressful job, which is why she gave it away, but some of the stories she told were unbelievable, like one that had her flying to Darwin to fix a problem that had been dragging a customer through hell for 8 months.

agree with Fulvio - I think Fordie was saying that is the care factor of the big corporations = "0"
we all get a bit pissed at times
especially if you already pissed off! seems to make matters worse
stick around ... plz
That is why I use OPTUS.
I do not trust Telstra one bit!
If fact I don't trust any of them. They are all trying to rip us off!

Well, of course!
This IS Taxtraylia, after all, innit?
Name one thing that isn't a total ripoff in this otherwise bewdiful paradise?

There are other providers that use Telstra backbone to provide their services. Use one of them if you are not happy with Telstra. I use Telstra for my company phone and Vaya for my personal phone. Why not try that ?
Telstra has the best mobile coverage which is why I'm with Telstra
Gee Fulvio,
I could have used the help of your friend a few years ago. Maybe then I would not have bailed out of Telstra when I could only (after many, many calls) find one person interested in solving the problem with their service [and that person, after exceeding her authority could not fix it and could not get anyone else in the orgabisation to listen.
QuoteMaybe then I would not have bailed out of Telstra
Now was that a good or bad move I ponder?

Organisations are people in the eyes of the law. That's why humans are referred to as 'natural persons' to distinguish them from legal persons.
And just like humans and other animals, they have personalities. Which can change depending on who's driving them, but the larger the organisation the more ingrained the corporate culture becomes.
Telstra is one of those companies with a very bad personality. It has a sense of entitlement with its roots back when it was the only game in town. It hates to share its toys and does not play nice with the other kids. It steals. And it is more than a bit antisocial.
Think of the evil queens in fairy tales, and you've got a pretty good image of what Telstra would be like in flesh and blood.
Shudder
