Title: The Changeover Tour
Post by: kchan1111 on October 19, 2015, 09:19:06 PM
If you haven't seen this already...

http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/noticeboard/2015/20151014.cfm (http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/noticeboard/2015/20151014.cfm)

QuoteApproaching the 50th anniversary of decimal currency, the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) is heading out of Canberra this month with the mobile press in tow to bring the minting experience to the people and share the decimal currency story.

The first leg of The Changeover Tour will reach out to a number of regional centres in New South Wales, starting in Wollongong and then visiting Newcastle, Tamworth and Dubbo.

Visit our pop-up stalls to shop for the latest products, swap for fresh change and stamp the special coin. All times and locations are listed below.

Following huge interest with Australia's latest commemorative circulating coins, we will be bringing these coins to the people. Two commemorative circulating coins will be available to swap at face value, including the highly-sought after 2015 $2 Circulating Lest We Forget Coloured Coin and the familiar 2015 $1 Circulating 100 Years of Anzac Coin.

To make the event even more memorable collectors will be able to personally counterstamp the special mark for The Changeover Tour - the outline of Australia - onto the 2015 $1 Circulating 100 Years of Anzac Coin for $10 each.

We'll also have all of our latest products for sale giving the chance to purchase without a postage fee!

Not located in these areas? Don't worry; we plan to visit all States and Territories in the coming months to give as many Australians as possible the chance to visit the Mint and find out more about Australian coinage without coming to Canberra.

Why is it called 'The Changeover Tour'?

The term 'the changeover' was used fifty years ago to communicate the move from pre-decimal currency to what we have today.

Plus we are giving you the chance at the pop-up shops to changeover the coins in your pocket for the new commemorative circulating coins!

Please note: Due to security reasons the exact times and locations will only be updated close to the event. Please continue to check in here to learn more.

I hope they come to Melbourne or some other city like Ballarat or Bendigo.   If they do, I shall be there.

If anyone is going to the NSW location(s), I wouldn't say no to two of the Map coins.    PM me if you can help.

If they ever come to Sydney I can get you a couple. Time will tell where else they will go.

This sounds like a great idea.  I just hope that they don't come to my part of the world when I am overseas in November.

If you are overseas, how many would you like?

That's very kind of you. I will check the dates as they announce my area in Adelaide. If I am away then I will take you up on your offer. Many thanks.

Buyers have got over their initial urge that they must have one right now no matter what the cost! :-/

I think there were also whispers around initially that they may be a small mintage but perhaps now people are waiting for the RAM annual report (which should be pretty close) to see the mintage so far.

Didn't the mint announce they'd be doing coins swaps with it at at least five more places this year?

We might be waiting a while for this to hit our towns by the looks..

It will be interesting to see if they use 2016 coins if the delay is that long?

What the... that implies it's OVER for NSW? They are not going to where 2/3rds of the population of the state lives.

I have heard rumours that the changeover tour has ended.

As a precaution, I have bought two of the Changeover Coins from EBay.

As soon as I hear that the RAM will start touring again, I shall take orders for those that can't get there.   (Remember I live in Melbourne so the RAM has to come to Victoria for me to do just that).

When I spoke to the RAM yesterday, Monday, I was told that the tour will still be taking place but whether the coin will be dated 2015 or 2016, they couldn't confirm.

Only time will tell.

In other words, "Watch this space.............................".
