[attachment=3310]Hi folks , finally have a camera with macro so here goes......have been saving coins from my fathers PVC album , nothing that special but found this florin with doubling around a few of the stars and handle of sword , i guess its a well know variety but have found nothing on it.cheers
Baz
Welcome to the forum AussieSilver and nice photography there as well. The doubling
is probabaly nothing significant in my view but some people collect that sort of thing
Are there any known harmful affects from using acetone on pre decimal silver?
TIA
I will check mine for doubling!
[attachment=3311]thks for the reply's guys
i think acetone ok , i was going to do a dip with it
i have seen a couple of these doubled coins on fleabay selling as normal florins so i know there's a few of them out there. Here's a close up of the star i recon it looks better than the original , 3Dish

Must have missed this post when it came out. Your coins doubling looks like mechanical doubling and not die doubled.
I picked these up a few months back.

yep i am with you on this one Nealeffendi , i'm yet to find a D/D pre or decimal altho i have what i think are some nice examples of machine doubling even if they are not that popular amongst collectors i like em.Great find Interest may i ask where you got them and did they cost more than a normal florin

I have a number of double die coins (hub doubled and machine doubled). Some I pick out of scratch bins (like a 62 double nose queen in EF), some I spot on fleabay and some from bulk lots. I don't normally pay a premium for them unless they are exceptional errors (like the double nose) and sometimes I buy them slabbed. For a PCGS MS64 double nose I paid about $180. I have a nice aUnc 1951 florin with mechanical that cost be bullion price in a bulk lot:yahoo:
so bulk lots are worth looking at i always thought they would have been picked clean by the seller will have to keep an eye out for them , have seen pics of the double nose  on my want list
never underestimate a bulk lot
yes the are very often picked through but the picker is after what they prefer
I go this little beauty out of an auction bulk lot - 1911 1D MS63RB

They are exceptional prospector coins RG :yahoo: Don't for get to treat that tiny bit of green death on the 58
too late
it's in a slab now
in fact I didn't notice it. I actually selected the wrong coin and had meant to send one that I think it better
no matter - still very attractive
nice finds RG that 1911 penny is a beauty
