I was searching for something else, and tripped over this just now:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2013-Security-Bag-Of-25x-2-Coins-Includes-Purple-Coronation-Coins-/181898570911
I mean... really????
There are six coronations showing. We know from the many bags we all opened that they were seeded at a rate of 2 to 6 per bag on average.
Let's assume the seller faced them all so they're showing. So.. $350 less $38 for the standard designs that nobody wants, means $312 for six coins. $52 EACH!
I have no idea what kind of drugs are involved, but whatever the seller is on must be really, really good stuff. Maybe he includes free samples for buyers too. :diablo:
And this is not an isolated case by any stretch of the imagination, as we've seen in other posts.
Are people REALLY that stupid, or what?

Yes, but what is worse is that despite the fact the listing clearly states that the bag contains UNC $2 coins with SOME being coronation's and not all. People will complain about a listing rather than just not bidding on it. A fool and his money are soon parted but the big question is how did that fool get his money in the 1st place?
I think that his listing is deluded and over priced but recently I have seen people fight each other to pay $2000+ for a plain silver 10oz bar so who are we to say his price is unfair if someone is willing to pay it
The whole coloured $2 thing is getting out of control.

Yah. I popped in to Unico today to pick up some stuff Shelley brought back from Sydney for me. She mentioned they'll be getting orange RAM rolls next month. No idea of pricing, they supposedly don't know if they'll be charged face or a premium.
This is going to be a rerun of the green ones, I can feel it in my bones.

Yeah... well...
Maybe I'm out of step here, but I really, really feel that fools need to be educated, not taken advantage of.
I know there's a sucker born every minute and all, but I just think its reprehensible to rip people off.
And its not about the price either. If coronations were $50 each, and this bloke was selling a bag with six in it for say $400, I'd be fine with that. But they're not. They're $15, maybe $20 tops, and he knows it.
This is like all the scumbags who prey on little old ladies in my book.
it seems you are missing my point, I am not saying its ok to rip people of but rather that the person buying it may very well be happy with what they buy and who are we to judge them on that. how many people here have had family members look at them strange when we explain how we just spent $500 on a $1 coin because it is named after an animal (mule) in their eyes we are getting ripped off.
and I would also guess that 70 years from now an uncirc 2013 $2 aboriginal coin will be worth more than the coronation in mint state just like a ms 27 florin is worth more than an equivalent parliament house one.
we may be the idiots with our choices

I don't think so. Rather I think we're just sort of on slightly different tangents.
Different coins have different values, no doubt. I don't have a problem with that. Whether a coronation is worth $2, $20 or $2,000 is irrelevant.
That is, as long as its consistent.
If the going rate is $20, and somebody pays $2,000, then he got ripped off. I don't think there can be any argument about that.
Which is not to say that the value can't increase to that level. But if it did, they would all be worth similar amounts, just like the average mule is in the $800-ish range right now.
See my point?
And yeah, you're probably right about the standard design. Wanna buy some off me for a hugely inflated markup? ;)
Hello
It looks like the seller got $400 for the last bag. If people are willing to pay that, then they will learn soon that they over-paid. ( hopefully ) An impulse buy is fine if it only a few dollars that you can afford to lose. Sellers such as this word the Add very carefully so a buyer think he doesnt know the true value and they can beat everyone to grab a bargain. If a buyer hasnt done their research, caveat emptor.

I agree, like a red rag to a bull, and thats what it is BS,the RAM will milk these coloured coins for every premium cent.
Most of us on here know not to buy Gold on Ebay but apparently there is a new Chinese batch in 'tamper proof' holders.

I've spoken to the owner of the Ebay listing and there is more to this story than i am able to put in print.
Stating the obvious i know but for any newbies buying Gold from the Perth Mint,or any Bullion dealer for that matter, buy in single transactions and keep the Invoice, the extra postage is good insurance if you wish to sell them down the track for above bullion value because the buying dealer will punch a hole in the packaging.
What's his story then Basil?
I don't really want to go there, but basically and in generality 'they' are copying/counterfeiting the Perths Mints(& others,i read a few years ago that gold bars with 'Suisse Gold' stamps were often fakes) packaging so in the years ahead,to my way of thinking these will be treated like 1930 Pennies when the public becomes informed,so whilst genuine purchases will still have Bullion value the package will be damaged/destroyed in the selling process so no premium over melt.
Anyway its not something i wish to be involved in so echoing a warning is about it for me.

Fair enough however I hope you have alerted relevant authorities to investigate this

Hi,no RW i haven't,as i said i'm staying right out of it,i was in 2 minds whether to post here or not, only finally did as its a closed Forum.Apparently some of the Ebay USA guys have been in touch with the Perth Mint so i expect some sort of Thread on 'Coin Community' Site eventually.
