Title: Some opinions on this please

It definitely has a rev lam, not sure about the rim in the same area though.  Any opinions?

5c 1968 Rev Lam Error? PMD?

Lovely lamination flaw!!!

Gee the rim is a tricky one Nevol.

The thin rim to me suggests a lack of metal due to the flaw, however the way it is pushed up towards the 5 more than what the rim might normally be (even if thinned) makes me think it was dropped or something.

I'm sure that the lack of metal in that area would certainly make it easily prone to be easily pushed in (so perhaps even falling into the mint hopper may have done it). The obverse side is thinned, but not pushed in.

Looking at the side on view of the rim I think the large line is perhaps part of the flaw. There's certainly lots of metal missing on the rim. I'm still thinking that perhaps just that reverse lip has been pushed up a little, but I think the majority of the variance to a normal coin is due to the flaw.

This would have been an oval cold shut in the sheet before the plachet was cut through it, so what you have is the tip. Think of the shape of a dessert spoon.

Plus, it was struck off-centre, with not a lot of metal on the flaw side.

Also, the flakiness of the surface suggests the cold shut had several stress lines through it, and a piece has broken away from the edge, taking most of the reeding with it, and leaving the dent.

Add in a fair amount of wear and tear, and there you have it.
