Title: Portable press in Sydney & Melbourne
Post by: interest on September 12, 2015, 02:32:06 PM
I see the Portable press will be in Sydney for the NRL & Melbourne for the AFL.
see below. From Facebook

It was a great morning hosting James Tobin and the crew from Weekend Sunrise here at the Mint. James struck his own coin, got to meet our robot Titan, learnt about the changeover to decimal currency and officially announced that we will be visiting Sydney and Melbourne to bring the minting experience to AFL and NRL - National Rugby League fans.

 Thank you James and Sunrise!

says a lot that they can do all other shows except ANDA, sounds like the mint is dogging collectors and only after places where they think there'll be heaps and heaps of people :( So much for "it's costing too much", I knew it was a cop out from the mint so boooo hisss to the mint and only chasing the mighty dollar.

Whilst I'm sure the number of potential buyers would have to dictate the presence of the press, perhaps they do not want to be in the same place as dealers (who may have some sort of arrangement / access to that same coin before, on or after the day) who are also trying to make a bob?

Just a thought.

dealers usually get goods at a discount so I don't think that would really matter as the dealers and mint sell at RRP

What's the coin they will be pressing?

im guessing the same junk they always do with a counter stamp, you know the dumb cup coin

because dumb drunk footy fans will reallyyyyyy want to spend $10 on a coin of the winning/losing team at the grounds, when all they want is to buy booze! yeah lets face it they are not going to spend money on a coin! when they can buy beer! they want to get drunk and lob out of the stadium and drive home with all the congested city traffic, being a bunch of loud angry fans .

great friken marketing research there

Next thing it will be "bring more people into collecting", doubt it if your there to watch footy who gives a rats about a silly coin stand and it's $10 less you get to spend on food or beer :winkextra:

I'd like to know the TRUE reason why they stopped going to ANDA and not some BS about the cost of transport or some rubbish :(

One would think if they really did care about collectors and not just the all mighty dollar they'd go to the ANDA as there's a lot of collectors walk in the doors and true collectors that would probably end up spending a lot more on other RAM products than a one off kind at the footy, I think it really is a sad state of affairs and very disappointed in the RAM.

I think this has Much more to do with getting the RAM Employees in to watch the Grand Final  Than a marketing idea

RAM should always bring portable press to ANDA no doubt whatsoever
I agree the footy finals are a dumb place to take it to I don't reckon the fans go there for yet another merchandise cost

I see the press will be at Yarra Park outside the MCG where a majority of AFL fans will be. In Sydney it will be at Darling Harbour which is miles from where the NRL fans will be. Interesting to see which one attracts the most interest.

I don't think footy fans of either code will be going to the finals because RAM is just another merchandise retailer is there.
A bit like RAM setting up shop at the BATHURST 1000 ... fans go there because of the sport which is costly enough.
Families do have budgets to adhere to

The RAM has released info stating that both counterstamps at Sydney and Melbourne will be on  dollar coins unique to each football code. They say if there are any coins remaining after the three day events, the coins will be offered to Legend members only, but no guarantees of that by the sounds of it.

Is there anyone intending to visit either of the counterstamp locations who could pick up one of these coins for me please. Much appreciated if they could.

Grant,

Your wish is my command.   Only one AFL coin?   Might have a spare out of Sydney from the NRL.  Will confirm when in hand.

I call flowers cow poop.
Both these coins will be available from RAM after the event
I'm betting they want $20 each for this $1 carded coin

$15 but look for the Australia Post PNCs

I went into Melbourne today and again first in queue.   RAM still setting up and started trading at 5pm.

No limit but there was a bit of a line up, maybe 20 persons at most.

The next three days will be busy though.

The AFL coins looks good in hand and I have put my ticket in for the Coloured coin draw.

I will post a few pictures shortly.

Downies are now selling these for issue price. They're sure to have lots of entries in for the coloured coins now.

I'm quite disheartened by the distribution and release of coins recently by the RAM. They say one thing and then there's always something that comes out later that completely changes things.

The entries will only be from the coins actually sold at the MCG and not through Downies outlets.

In saying that, I was first on line in Melbourne and I have just been informed that my sister was first in line in Sydney for the NRL coin.

The gent was trying to get the glove on and not trouble taking it off.   That gent is a member of this forum and he was third in line.

Are they numbered or something? Any advantage for being first in line?

Darling Harbour was great meeting with Laurie Daley yesterday whilst at RAM store he was signing the coin folders and the RAM staff got some selfies with the legend

I had to Google who Laurie Daley is/was.   Now I am educated on who is was.

I didn't meet any AFL Players whilst getting the AFL coins but did sight many ex retired AFL players, all dressed up in grey suits etc.   Also saw Steve Johnson of geelong.

Other than that, waited in line for a long time.

:i_agree: It's a crying shame the RAM can't / won't allow the circumstances of at least one coin issue to be handled as they advertise. In so doing, they could possibly trigger the birth of a serious collectable.

Unfortunately, while ever dealers want a piece of the action this will never happen IMHO.

RAM Media Release (http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/noticeboard/2015/20150922.cfm)

"Only available for purchase at NRL Nation, make sure that you visit us to purchase yours!"

Other RAM Media Release (http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/noticeboard/2015/20150921.cfm)

"This coin will not be otherwise available for purchase via our normal retail channels, so make sure that you visit us to collect yours!"

I guess none of that stops Downies staff from walking over there and buying 20,000 of the 30,000 suggested by the packaging and getting their entry in for the coloured coins at the same time. If Downies have a Dealer allocation then I'm disappointed the RAM did not consider that in their statement.

Um, Can I brag, yes, well here goes.

I have just received an email from the RAM advising me that a coloured NRL coin is on the way to me.   YES.

That means I shall have both coloured coins from the 2015 NRL and AFL grand finals.

I couldn't be happier.

Anyone else received these emails from the RAM?

I have it from a very reliable source, (my sister in Sydney) that those persons who have been advised that they were successful in the NRL/AFL Coloured coin raffle, will receive ones coins through the mail in the first week of December.
