"Proof that buying one of Australia's rarest coins will cost a pretty penny
Proof that not everything should be taken at face value, with a rare Australian penny on display in Melbourne valued at $1.25 million.
The 1930 proof penny is one of six struck, but never circulated, in Australia's pre-decimal currency era.
Its value has soared over the years due to its extreme rarity.
Three of the six 1930 proof pennies are privately owned, with one in Melbourne and two in Sydney. The other three are located in the British Museum, the Museum of Victoria and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
The coin was displayed under tight security alongside other rare coins and banknotes worth millions of dollars.
The exhibition continues tomorrow at Bayview on the Park in Albert Park.

Should help start new collectors/investors[/font]
No doubt the same one that Coinworks had on display in Brisbane earlier this year.
If anyone has a lazy $85,000 to throw around, Coinworks also have a nice circulated example for sale, graded gVF/aEF.
I would rather get the xf40bn one that Andrew Crellin has at Sterling Currency for $40k
Heh, this coin and a handful of others were in a high-tech glass box. As I'm leaving tonight, Belinda and one of her staff are fiddling with it...
There's a little panel with an IEC power cord and two arrow buttons. Apparently the thing's motorised and the whole thing lowers into the base for security and transportability.
And it wasn't budging.
So we stuffed about for a few minutes, as I suggested making sure it was plugged in (it was), the cables weren't faulty (they weren't), whether there was a manual override (there wasn't), and whether it could be transported 'open' (it couldn't).
Eventually I toddled off to go play in the traffic [Note to AC: I scored the same parking spot as yesterday! WOOT!].
AFAIK, Belinda is probably still there fiddling about trying to get a million bucks home. ;)
haha your so funny fulv, haha the parking spot must have had your name on it ;) did it bring ya luck, made my own fun out of yesterday, did they fix the hot problem ? or was it still warm inside

Yep, my lucky spot. When I got there I decided to go round the block rather than pull another illegal right turn. Drove through the forecourt, just in case, and there's this bloke standing in the empty spot texting. I asked him if he was holding the spot, and he just smiled and moved out of the way. MINE!
Oh, and had fun yesterday too. When I was leaving, there was a girl standing there with a couple of suitcases. Apparently her girlfriend was driving around looking for a spot. So I said she could have mine. We then had about 20 minutes of fun while the friend discovered she couldn't turn right, drove half way into the city (7km her Navman said), turned around, overshot, went around the block, and then we played musical cars trying to clear a path for her. All with a running commentary and much laughter. I shoulda got their numbers.. they were fun. ;)
And what heat problem? It was fine I reckon. Yesterday too.
Hey, you wanna drive up to Sinny for their show? Stop off in Canberra and hassle Ross on the way, maybe even go throw rotten eggs at AJ or summfink... :)

I couldn't afford either coin, and looking at the one you mentioned it's nice enough but at what I would grade aVF to VF, IMHO it falls a fare way short of the Coinworks example for grade, and of course price.

I just put them side by side, coinworks take angled "glory "shots to hide the flaws but I will agree their coin is better in grade than the vf they put on it. I would put it at pcgs au50*53 from what I can see hence the higher price.

The xf40bn was a generous grade IMHO, still both nice coins.
