Title: 50th Anniversary of Decimal coins
Post by: trout on August 23, 2015, 07:02:22 AM
Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of Decimal coinage in Australia.
I imagine the  RAM NCLT department will be cranked into overdrive in 2016.
Personally I would like to see another issue of the Round 50c in 80% silver and the 1 and 2 cent coins in the Proof and Mint sets, Just like they did in 2006.
What would you like to see ?

We began a discussion on this earlier this year but it didn't seem to take off well.

Here is a link to the currency determination that seems to outline a number of decimal coins that will have pre-decimal markings. (e.g. a crown, threepence, sixpence, penny and florin)

https://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2015L00382

I am not sure if they will be circulated or not but they will certainly be must haves in the collection. Perhaps this will be the first time a 5c and 10 c will carry a different design?

I am sure there are others who know more than I do on this..

I'm thinking a silver/gold set with the Gillick head or a 50ยข set with all the obverses might eventually pop up.

I imagine the mint and proof sets from 1966 will be pretty popular next year with all the hoo haa that will undoubtedly accompany the 50th anniversary .
I wonder how many mint sets RAM has stashed away awaiting this event

The "Honeycomb" 50 Cents for 2015 was a rather good looking coin and they actually looked after this particular coin issue (For a Change)
I am hoping that they produce a Round 50c coin next year for the mint sets minus the usual awful bagginess that seems to be the "Norm" these days with NCLT and Mint Sets
