Title: 1956m penny proof
Post by: purplepennyhunter on August 11, 2015, 01:26:36 PM
I have had this proof penny in my collection for years. Picked it up as an impaired proof but it appealed to me because of the colour. The colour is from poor storage and I should know better. Recently had it graded -PCGS PR65BN

Regardless of the grade it's a pretty looking coin and would fit nicely into your collection

I love the colour of that one PP, it looks like a giant Maundy coin :yahoo:

It's really dark and really really glossy. I'm happy it's in a slab now.

It's a beautiful coin PP!

What is on the rim of the obverse at around 4 o'clock? (Is it a retainer from the slab or part of the coin?)

Great pickup PP. Regardless of people calling it an impaired proof this coin should sell for a premium rather than a discount. Also in a 65 slab I wouldn't call it impaired.

By the way was it kept in its velvet case which they came in? They tend to tone beautifully (Silver and Copper) in those cases much the same as the Maundy coins trout mentioned.

Might be a planchet flaw or perhaps rust on the die, it's under the holder prong can't see it except in the PCGS pic.

I don't know how it was stored......big mystery. I would have thought a pvc album page.

well possum
at PR 65 i'd hazard a guess that PVC damage isn't apparent even if it made it go blue

but I have a friend with a bunch of proofs in a dansco supreme album and they are all sorts of stunning colours, so PVC sn't always the culprit

if that baby is blue then you have my address ..... !!!
beautiful in my opinion

It looks pretty cool ...... on a mission now to see if I can find any pics of other 1956m pennies to see if they have similar.

No luck with the easy found pics:
