No way AJ.......depends on the weight but anything from a couple of dollars for more. I sent one yesterday, just over the 50gms mark and it cost me $8

Bubble envelopes cost more due to size and weight.

AJ, as others have indicated, it depends on weight etc, but be aware that sometimes it's cheaper to send 2 envelopes that are under 50g each, than to just bung it all in one envelope.

Country   Weight   Cost

NZ   >50g   $1.85
NZ   50-250   $5.00
NZ   250-500   $10.00

US   >50g   $2.75
US   50-250   $7.40
US   250-500   $16.50

UK   >50g   $2.75
UK   50-250   $7.40
UK   250-500   $16.50

Say you want to send between 50g & 100g to USA.
As above that's $7.40, but in 2 envelopes under >50g
each, it's $5.50, so be aware that this anomaly occurs.

Yes Nancy is right. I sent a batch of coins to Portugal recently and saved several dollars by splitting into two lots.

Well AJ that is the minimum cost to the USA.

Gotta keep those overpaid execs in the luxury that they are used to!

Wow that is crazy prices for 50g - 250g by the time you use decent cardboard and the envelope you are already at about 30g.

You can say that again NZC and they are constantly complaining that letter sales are down but neglect to say padded envelope sales are through the roof and constantly rising due to ebay and the like and they are always saying they need to increase the price :dash1:

The problem is standard letter service has a 'Community Service Obligation" aspect but the Government won't support it financially. And Australia Post hates the idea of one section losing money, even if other services make up for it.
The tip is next standard letter rate increase will be to $1.00 before the end of the year -if AP has it's way!

WTF I'm still getting over the last price rise, will it never end :( Yes that's a rhetorical question ;)

Lucky they not long put the price up or it would look like auspost was gouging :dash1:

Just like the other topic mate anything government and political parties just want to keep increasing spending but will never reduce expenditure they just increase taxes in this case prices :P To be honest I agree with ausjack considering how small a letter is it may be worth packing the letters into your luggage and flying to the US

My daughter has been living in the states for a few years now and visits here twice a year. I sometimes buy items there giving her address. They come to me, packed in her luggage.
The difference in postage cost can be staggering.
