Which type coin holder does one recommend?
Looking at either the 2x2 cardboard staple or 2x2 SAFlip...
Nevermind...ordered the Coin Starter Kit from ThePurplePenny :D
I must say I prefer the staple type.

Me too.
It all depends on the coin for me.
If I am going to add it to one of my albums I put it in a self adhiesive 2x2 (I hate staples) because I like to write the grade and date on the flip for further referance , Or if is an error coin I like to note the error.
If I am just simply storing the coin I put it in an saflip and heat seal it.

Do the adhesives emit vapours which in turn possibly affect the coin? Any good places to buy them? (adhesive/staple)

Sounds like a good idea..Use grease proof paper and iron seal?
I have never had a drama with the self adhesive 2x2s because i store my albums flat.
If you store the albums on their edge there is a risk of the glue giving way and the coin dropping into the glued part of the flip.
I use a heat sealer on my saflips , these are as cheap as chips on eBay.
In my opinion self adhesive 2X2's are on the nose. Some years ago I was lucky enough to snag a 1955Y. Mule penny in full red CHU condition. After diligently placing it in the 2X2 for "SAFE" keeping, at a later date I found the holder had partly opened like a clam and a third of the coin had toned. Bugger.....that was the only self adhesive 2X2 I remember doing that, so why did it have to be that particular coin :dash1: Only use saflips these days Grrrrrrrrr

I bet you didn't store your albums flat, if you did then that shouldn't have happened :ok:
ditto autocoupler
I have many a silver coined ruined by those sticky coin holders
the coin slides down into the sticky section
So where are people sourcing these good 2x2 staple flips? I'm guessing they are mylar windowed?

A bit late getting back, my computer's been down and the one at work fell over as well.
The odd thing is that back in those days I always stored my albums flat. The coin didn't actually come in contact with the sticky stuff, so must have been the odour from the glue or maybe from the soft plastic pages being used at the time.

Bingo :)

I acquired mine from here http://www.thepurplepenny.com/coin-collecting-supplies,22.html, but most good coin shops can source them.

I have ordered staple 2x2 coin holders from prospect stamps and coins. I use staple holders because they are half the price of adhesive. I also have a stapler which bends the staples flat, but if I place the staple too close to the coin it won't do it so I press them flat with pliers.
They are not necessarily pretty but at least they are secure.
I have had some self adhesive holders and have not had any problems, I store all binders flat though.
I order my storage sheets from purple penny.

I think this is correct, I have gone through all my original RAM holders and 2001 coins are damaged by the plastic (mylar or PVC containing???) but 2003 are fine so get your coins out of them fast into proper holders.
I use the smaller (bambi - rexel no. 25) staples and they look alright (compared to a normal staple)
I'm liking the 2x2 SAflips, cos it makes it neater to print labels like below: :)

I use a dymo label printer. That particular label is a 25x25mm. I can fit more lines in, but it reduces font size to accomodate. I also have some 13x25mm labels that should work with smaller windowed 2x2 cardboard flips. Will try some on my 20mm 2x2 staple flips.
