I am just going through my folder where i have been collecting every circulated coin issued my RAM. There are some coins missing but I have the same year Mint set where I could pinch the coins but doing the maths the complete mint set is worth more than the added value of the individual coins.
So how do you get the missing coins in UNC condition? Do you pull apart mint sets or buy them from someone that has a mint roll for instance?

None of the "Mint set only " coins are available in rolls.
The mint sets are the only source of these coins, if you don't want to raid your mint sets maybe eBay is an option.
Personally I simply raided the mint sets :diablo::)
have you thought about posting a wanted list here?
Yes, I have thought that, I am still doing the inventory, over the years I have bought almost all coins and now checking what is missing and can i get them from folders and cards I already have. I am putting together a ring binder with coin series for easier viewing than having all coins in a yearly box.
I am amassed of the number of $1 coins, almost 300 of them depending on how you define "different". All those different counterstamps and mintmarks, I am trying to imagine them in one folder... heavy, that's 2.7 kg.
5 rubles my advice is to never take the al/br $1 coins out of the packaging they are safe there as long as you seal them in a glad bag this stops toning

Did you see Trout's pics of his complete set? Stunning, and it took a ton of time and money to build.
I agree runway, the mint sets are well preserved in the mint folders, those in plastic pouches are a different story though, i will pull them out and place in cardboard pockets.
No Fulvio, I did not see Trout's collection photos, can you give me a link, interesting.

Dunno, I just did a quick search, and all I can find is this:

Trout, where did you put those pics of the pages all laid out on tables out the back?

I'm not sure , I have just woken up from my "Nana nap"
I will see if I still have the images on hard drive :ok:
Nice link Fulvio, thanks. About taking pictures, I use a scanner which gives much better pictures than a normal camera. What methods do other people typically use to take pictures of coins?

I started off using a scanner Then I bought a "point and shoot" camera and got some half decent images using that.
I bit the bullet last year and bought a DSLR camera and a decent macro lens.
I still have a fair way to go but the images I am getting are slowly improving as time goes by :)

Scanners are way too 'flat' for decent pictures. They're easy though, and fine for documenting coins quickly, especially in bulk.
USB microscopes for detail, of course.
But you can't beat a camera for quality shots. Any camera should beat a scanner, though obviously a DSLR with a good lens will do better than a toy from K-Mart.
The biggest factor though is lighting. Mark and PP have written extensively about this, with lots of detail and good advice.
When imaging coins, its also worth keeping in mind what the objective is. A magazine cover is one thing, a quickie record shot quite another. ;)
