Title: The curse of an honest man
Post by: trout on May 26, 2015, 03:29:42 PM
I just got back from the post office where I picked up a PCGS package thinking Jeez the post office was quick this time it only left the states on the 24th.
I open the boxes only to find they are NOT my coins.
I have a whole bunch of beautiful pre decimal coins with a numisbid value of over $35,000 that are not mine :cray:

There are multiples of the same coins in high grades so it looks like a dealers submission.
I will make a few emails and see if I can find the owners of these otherwise I will have to get in contact with PCGS .
Gawd I wish I was a dodgy bastard because most of these coins are stunning .
Have any of you guys sent some high grade predecimals away that you are expecting soon?
If so PM me with a few of the cert # so I can check and see if they are yours.

How's that for an incredible stuff up PCGS .
Sorry Mark , I couldn't help myself

All is good, I have found the owner :yahoo:
I am certain that he wont mind me taking a couple if piccis before I take them back to him on Friday.
I'll put them up in the pre decimal section :)

Awful stuff up by PCGS there.  I'd be fuming if it was my submission.

My main concern was finding out who owned these and getting them back to them, If they were mine and they got "misplaced" I would of been heartbroken.
There are some absolutely stunning coins in those two boxes. look at this puppy :)

If you got someone else's coins, who has yours?

if it's Peter
Hold him to ransom
Make him come to your place and do 'pick-up' - tell him that you require a home visit to help with your convalescing - complete with flowers and a bottle of good Victorian red!! ha ha

Mine are going through customs at the moment.
I have absolutely no idea why they sent Andrew Crellin's submission to me but they did.
I made a few phone calls and eventually found out where these beautiful coins belong.
I will be dropping these off personally because I have to go to Perth to get some work done on my arm anyway.
It will be a great excuse to spend some time at a coin shop

now that I realise properly who your happy submitter is
then perhaps the values need to be changed to a Sterling and Currency value ha ha

This batch wasn't one of Andrews , He sent it in for one of his customers.
It would of made him look like a real Dork if they disappeared

This is just an incredible story!  I would feel bad for the customer and the dealer had the recipient of the erroneously shipped package not been such an honest person.  I hope your honesty and sense of moral duty to do what's right won't stop you from accepting some token of appreciation from PCGS.  Also, I hope that PCGS has the honesty and sense of moral duty to reward you for your actions.

I have sent 25 submissions consisting of over 600 coins in to PCGS and I haven't had a problem at all
This event is totally unique

Your've been lucky then although security has improved with International Post Services over the years.I've been buying/selling with overseas clients & Dealers since the 1970's and every so often a package goes missing or is delivered all taped up with nothing inside.

Good to see your back into the swing of things.

Good on you for a job well done and of course the honesty that goes with it.

I'm off to Perth today and I have the entire afternoon to myself, I don't have to front up at the hospital until Friday morning :yahoo:
I will take these coins to Fremantle and give them to Andrew.
I have saved up $10,000 to spend on coins so I am going to have a "Fat Time" browsing at Andrews store then I will be off to the City to visit Tom at WAcoins to pick up a 1916 florin I have already paid for and to pick up some Sovereigns I was ogling last time I was there.
Hopefully I will pick up some nice Maundy and Indian coins and whatever takes my fancy :dance2:

I will probably drive you mob nuts with all the pikkies when I get back home

Great Story. Just lucky they went too you. Honesty may seem like a curses atm but its something you can be proud of. I would've done the same and been like why the bloody hell did this have to fall into my lap? Just to test me? and then had a laugh maybe with a few tears and screams of why...why.... WHYYYYY!!! Well done trout.

I think Trout should count himself lucky that the shipment from the US was coins

Really begs the question what are they doing with that stuff?  (Either "alive" or "dead")
