I have purchased these West Wallsend Co-0perative Society tokens (pictures attached).
I understand they are called Dole Tokens from around 1932.
The Carlisle, Mira, Howard 1995 Australian Bread Tokens book states:
Allegedly used during the depression as change or discount for purchases made with Government Relief cheques. They could be used for further purchases, which would have included bread.
These are pictures from ebay as I have not been able to scan the ones I received. I am still after the shilling token but have all of the others. In fact I have 3 x Threepence and 4 X Sixpence Tokens.

That size is good for me RG!
It's a really nice medallion, the detail on the king's chest is great.
Barry, I'll keep my eye out for a 1/- for you. I lived between Wallsend and West Wallsend at one stage (:laugh2: not when these were made though.)
Perhaps Bigfellani might have one too, being Newcastle and all.
Oh, a nice big birdie token.

Looks like the ones down at the local lake, when they know you have
bread on you, but you don't give it too them. I've been nipped on the butt a couple of times by them. :)
Nice W.A. token Robbie.
Well I did not find the 1/- Wallsend token at ANDA but did pick up another penny token.
Just have to keep looking for the shilling piece.
good on you _ I like the penny tokens, they have a real place in our numismatic history
Did you see AJ there?
he has been very quiet so I hope that he made it home OK and not tooo broke for the visit!

Yep saw AJ and saw what he picked up.....a copy of your medal above.
oh gosh!! I could have saved him the bother and sent that one over - it has been sitting in that box here at home for several years now
great to know forum members had a chance to catch up - it's really nice to put people to names
I always enjoy that
Yep good to see a couple of members but not as many as last year and yes I got this RG, and a few other things so show and tell later :)
