Title: 1979 50c Gold or Not to Gold
Post by: petpat on May 09, 2015, 04:56:28 PM
Hi Everyone,
A friend of mine came across a 1979 50c piece, nothing unusual about that but it is of gold appearance.  Either Gold Plate or is gold.
From what I can research no gold or gold plate coin was manufactured in 1979.
Anyone have any ideas on this.

Tks all.

What we need is a scan/photo of the coins from various angles to determine what has happened.

Being a 1979 50 c piece, I would say it was turned into a necklace or something and possible gold/painted dipped for the effect.

I am pretty sure similar things have been discussed before (either here or on CCF) and the conclusion was gold plating applied to a normal con.
