Just got off the phone to OC and he told me he had just bought his first Wedding Set.
He is "Well" Impressed with these coins.
I promised him I would list the Mintage figures for these sets .
Here they are, Source Maccas 2014 edition :ok:
2002 3,322
2003 3,249
2004 3,963
2005 3,627
2006 2,752
2007 2,629
2008 3,278
2009 2,824
It is interesting to note that these sets are described as "Specimen Quality" in this edition.
Thanks Trout.
They are really nice and I would not have bought them without your discussions of the wedding sets.

I'm glad you like these Mate.:good:
These are extraordinarily well produced coins and are Specimen/Unfrosted Proofs ( regardless of the Gem Uncirculated described on the Packaging fro RAM) and I would encourage anyone who hasn't got at least one set of these to get at least one while they are still readily available at a relatively low cost.
As soon as you open the box you will see what a few of us are raving about when you see just how Bloody nice these coins are compared to anything in a Mint Set or from Rolls Produced in the years 2002-2009 :)
Such a shame they don't produced these any more.
Quote from: 'kchan1111' pid='71379' dateline='1430040743'Such a shame they don't produced these any more.
Maybe , Just maybe they will If I can get them recognised for what they are :yahoo:
I imagine the issue price would go up because of the work involved producing these coins is probably more intense and costly than producing the Frosted Proof sets at the moment.
Kudos to people at the RAM for producing these amazing coins over the years 2002-2009 anyway because they reflect the ability of the craftsmen at the Mint to Indeed be able to produce World Class coins when they really want to :good:
To Many these are simply "Grannybait" , To Me they are a perfect example of what the Mint CAN achieve to produce an exemplary product.
The Description of "Gem Uncirculated" Is simply an insult to the craftsmen and women that produced these coins IMHO.
a idea would be instead of producing the single proof coins individually to do the better finish instead

This is a quote from an email I received from one of the people at RAM.
QuoteThe dies for these coins were polished to the same quality as proof dies, however no frosting was applied - to maintain the uncirculated appearance. The proof polishing process is extremely labour intensive, done by hand with tiny tools under binocular microscopes. The blanks used for Gem Uncirculated coins were proof blanks, of a higher quality than circ/unc blanks. The blank preparation process for proof coins was also followed, which uses a variety of techniques to purify, or clear the blank surface of defects (pickling, burnishing, heat treatment etc.). Finally the coins were struck as per proof coin process, on a proof press, hand loaded and inspected, struck four times precisely, and then encapsulated. These coins were absolutely unique,
I imagine that these coins could be described as "Specimen" or even Unfrosted Proofs.
They are certainly NOT your "Run of the Mill" Business strike coin by any means.
If you are able to visit a coin shop ask to have a look at one of these sets for yourself :ok:

I just received permission from Walter to be able to post this from his website "Bluesheet"
QuoteA number of different strike types were issued along side the standard business strike, specimen strike and proof strike. From 2001, the Royal Australian mint intermittently issued gold proof strikes and from 2003 the mint issued silver proof strikes. In addition, from 2002 to 2009 the mint issued wedding coin sets containing deep mirror specimen strikes. These were subsequently replaced by proof strikes in 2010.

I really don't give a Rats a___ what is printed on the Box.
That to me "Gem Uncirculated" is simply a "Marketing" Description NOT a true description of the coins produced for this set.
This is what is written on the 1988 mint sets
(http://www.australian-coins.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10019/mint_set.jpg)
Nothing mentioned here about Being Specially produced whatsoever :ok:
There are indeed Gem Uncirculated decimal coins that have come from Rolls or Mint sets BUT they are nothing like the quality of these Wedding set coins because they were not produced in the same way.
If you insist that the Wedding set coins are indeed merely Gem Uncirculated then what the hell do we call all the other Decimal business strike coins MS66 and above ?
The only other decimal Specimen coin that I am aware of is the 1970 Captain Cook coin, This IS recognised as being of Specimen quality.
Lets face it if RAM marketed these as Unfrosted Proofs or Specimen coins they would have had real problems selling the annual Mint sets and the Frosted proof sets because quite frankly the wedding set coins blow these out of the water.
I do sense an element of fear from dealers and collectors regarding getting these coins recognised by the major TPG's as being SP designated and I can understand that..
I am somewhat surprised at your reaction because you of all people would know bloody well that these wedding set coins are NOT your typical run of the mill decimal coin at all.
QuoteHOW ABOUT YOU QUOTE THAT RATHER THAN QUOTES FROM BOOKS AND WEBSITES????????????????????????????????????????
I have quoted that and have even sent a box to PCGS along with other quotes from Walter Eigners site, Greg McDonalds book and from an email I received from Dion Buck ( I suppose you may recon he is "Dodgy" as well) to PCGS.
I personaly do NOT think that any of these people/publications are dodgy or ill informed for an instant and the information I have supplied is pertinent and accurate.
Whats with the CAPS and punctuation?
How many of those coins were sent off to be graded KNOWING they are not the same as circulation coins?
All of them?
I don't understand the problems you are referring to.
There has clearly been a mistake, why not fix it?
The alternative is "Let's just not tell the truth".
The whole point of a Third Party Grader is to be trusted by being accurate and truthful.
I posted my reply before you modified you post Feathers :ok:
I also have NO intention of starting trouble I simply want these coins recognised for what they are by PCGS, Nothing more and nothing less.
Yes I have posted my views of 3 different sites and I have emailed PCGS on many occasions regarding this matter and i will continue to do so because do feel that this mistake should be "Redressed" .
The set registry problem could easily be addressed by PCGS allowing the Coins from the years 2002-2009 graded as SP to be added to the registry sets.
Just because many of these coins (Mine included) have been wrongly attributed in the past doesn't mean we should all shove our heads in the sand and ignore the facts just to maintain the "Status Quo".
I do feel strongly on this matter and I will pursue it to the best of my abillity
I imagine that when the first of these coins were graded by PCGS they would have fetched some rather high prices at auctions because of the higher grades achieved over the normal Mint set Circulation coins.
This should have been addressed at that time.
IMHO these coins are some of the best examples of RAM's skills producing Decimal coinage and should be recognised as such , Not just ignored and thrown into the "Too Hard" Bin.

I sent the first set over to PCGS not knowing what the coins would be graded as. It was a 2008 set. The 5c and $2 were graded as MS68, the others MS69. I gave the set to a friend of mine as a present because she liked the 50c so much and I thought the set should stay together.

As I said, I sent them over to see what they'd do with them.
I didn't know whether they'd come back as SP, PR or MS.
I am no pcgs expert here I know but ......
to my eye
the captain cook specimen coins look very different to the wedding set coins
the strike on the captain cook is more clearly defined
I know that people in my coin club call the wedding sets specimen strikes but I am not entirely convinced that they are
they almost seem to fit into the first strike category for circulated coinage but the first of the gem strikes off the press?

How about I simply send you a coin from one of these sets so you can make your own appraisal RG?
I have seen plenty of them Trout. What I want to understand is the difference between specimen, Gem and proof strikes. I always thought that specimens were more about the planchet preparation and strike from business dies, with GEM unc being about planchet preparation and early business die use from one strike, not the four proof die strikes on the one coin nor the specially prepared proof dies. I thought that only proofs received both the proof die and the extra 4. I thought that maybe a specimen gets an extra strike but not 3 extra.

That IS food for thought RG :good:
A PR instead of PRDC designation is probably the most accurate way of describing these coins and I think that at the end of the day like the 1934 Specimens that's how will probably attributed.
PR or SP would describe these coins Far better than the current MS designation and either one would "Appease" Me :)
What would make me really happy is if RAM went back to producing these outstanding coins :yahoo:
I have sent yet another email to PCGS regarding these coins and as they have yet to reply to any of my prior correspondence I asked specifically that they have the common decency to at least reply to my concerns.
I am in no way one of the "big fish" that sends coins to PCGS for grading but I have sent over 500 coins and have spent several thousands of dollars doing so with this company so I do expect them to show me the common curtsy of at least replying to my emails.
Lets see what happens now
your man at the mint is wrong about the GEM wedding set coins being struck 4 times on proof dies
but yes, the planchets were especially prepared

if the coin is struck 4 times on proof dies then it would have to be a proof coin strike

Lots of "secret squirrel" abounds with information coming from RAM
true and unfortunately pretty well all of them there now have had nothing to do with the RAM earlier production runs or even working in mints before they lobbed a job there
I am pretty sure that these coins can speak for themselves.
Everyone that has seen these immediately notices that they are different to other coins.
Getting information out of the RAM is like trying to squeeze blood out of a stone anyway.
true
that is what is so special about the specimen strike - it sits nicely between the proof and the business strike & it takes expertise to know the differences
hence the confusion with the earlier pre-decimal 'proofs'
Wedding Set Specimens are what they are
There's no secret to be told
I haven't been able to sleep properly since I got hurt and I have been hunting through my images files.
I came across this image of a 20 cent wedding set coin that really shows the quality of these coins.

From 2010 to date these sets are minted in frosted proof finish :ok:
Bugger!! Didn't know that, but I like the thought anyway.
I have just noticed that the population numbers at PCGS for the coins that can be found in the Wedding Sets has increased quite a lot recently.
The populations of the MS69 and MS70 coins has increased dramatically especially the 2008 coins, These would have to be coins taken from Wedding sets because I doubt very much that a circulation or Mint set coin would attain these high grades in these sorts of numbers.
I have also noticed that the valuations for these coins has fallen quite a lot on the Bluesheet charts as well.
It looks like all the poor buggers that have paid big dollars for the MS69 coins in the past for their registry sets have just copped a pineapple because of this.
I doubt that these poor sods would disagree with me wanting the Wedding Set coins attributed differently to the Business strike coins now
I prefer to keep my wedding coins in original packaging set
Why bother send to PCGS just for a grade?
I wonder if these new additions are part of the 20k submission. There were no images for 2008 50 cent but does this 2007 MS69 look like an ex Wedding Set?
EDIT: I don't like the look of those three hairline/marks on the obverse, I hope they are not scratches.
QuoteI wonder if these new additions are part of the 20k submission. There were no images for 2008 50 cent but does this 2007 MS69 look like an ex Wedding Set?
This coin is typical of a Wedding set coin and if those are indeed scratches then it is also a badly graded MS69, because scratches like that would preclude a 69 grade and could quite possibly be deserving of a "Genuine UNC Details (95 - Scratch) " grade :ok:
The sad thing about this is that there is absolutely NO WAY that PCGS will now grade the wedding set coins differently Because it would mean that they would have to admit that they made a Major stuff up in the first place attributing these coins :dash1:
As for if these are a part of the 200,000 , I wouldn't know.
I think I posted these elsewhere, they are very likely part of the 20k submission:

You may have something there, these also have the strange images and they are a standard submission as well.
Maybe these types of images are indicative that they are from the 20,000 bunch.
At least they have "Wedding Set" as a pedigree but are still listed on the pop charts as MS.

They are certainly NOT your "Run of the Mill" Business strike coin by any means.
If you are able to visit a coin shop ask to have a look at one of these sets for yourself :ok:
These are almost identical to some issues from New Zealand and Canada which PCGS slabs as PL.
I would suggest PL as the most appropriate designation.
QuoteThese are almost identical to some issues from New Zealand and Canada which PCGS slabs as PL.

Whatever they do now will be a case of too little too late.:dodgy:
When I first suggested to PCGS to attribute these coins differently the silence to my MANY requests and emails containing the relevant information was deafening , there were only about 75-100 of the wedding set coins graded back then and it was a "Doable" proposition.
Now that there are literally hundreds of these wedding set coins mixed up in the MS graded coins it is pretty much a logistical nightmare for PCGS to rectify this and I fear that it will be put into the "Too Hard Basket" and nothing will be done now :dash1:
It is NOT as if PCGS are unaware that these coins are indeed a totally different strike to the Business class strikes, I have been nipping at their heels about this for the last 3 years and I doubt that I have been alone in this.
It will probably take another 30-40 years for these to be recognised because that is about the speed that the numismatic community takes to get off its arse and do anything and in the meantime the deception will continue:dodgy:

Somebody has managed to get the 'Wedding Set" added to the above coins although they have the same PCGS No. as business strikes. This is nice for the owners of these particular coins but what about all the other "Wedding Set" coins already graded.
Not only that, previously ex Wedding Set coins received lower grades as a matter of course, would you agree? By lower grades I mean lower than MS69 - MS70 which they seem to be getting now.
QuoteNot only that, previously ex Wedding Set coins received lower grades as a matter of course, would you agree? By lower grades I mean lower than MS69 - MS70 which they seem to be getting now.
By the look of that scratched up 2007 50c that got a MS69 grade I would say that most of the previous MS69 coins would probably go up a grade if resubmitted I suppose.
It would probably be a cheaper option just to grab some new sets and just submit the coins in them as these would be "Fresh" and won't face the possibility of getting damaged at the crack out stage.
These sets are still quite easily sourced and are still priced quite reasonably at the moment.
Whichever way you went about it there will be an added expense that would not have been necessary if only PCGS had done their job properly in the first place.
I DO feel for the poor buggers that have had their set registry sets "Swamped" by the introduction of all these MS70 grades after going to all the effort and expense adding the "Then" top graded MS69 coins to their sets.
With the consistent high quality of these Wedding set coins I am struggling to understand as to why all of a sudden PCGS has finally decided to grant them with in most cases a well deserved MS70 grade now and not previously.
At the moment PCGS is looking like a 3 ring circus and all the clowns and cowboys are on a drunken rampage in the centre ring.
I have NO idea what is happening at PCGS at the moment But they are certainly NOT inspiring me with much confidence in them as of late with their antics.
I have spent a lot of time and effort trying to have this issue with the wedding set coins addressed by PCGS over the last 3 years and all of it has been to absolutely NO avail whatsoever.
I have also been subject to some derision and abuse because of my tenacity in this But I shrugged that off and kept at it regardless .
With what has happened recently I will now just have to throw in the towel as it has gone too far for me to have any chance of getting redress on this.
I do feel Sad, Angry and frustrated but there is absolutely NO chance now for me to get a favourable outcome in my endeavours trying to get PCGS to attribute these coins differently.
I am willing to bet that this is a Wedding set submission and none of these have the wedding set pedigree.
By the look of it someone has picked the eyes out of a few wedding sets to build this submission, It looks like a dealers submission because most collectors would have sent the entire sets in for grading.

As long as the coin that is imaged is the coin the buyer receives $30 is pretty reasonable for a 2009 50c of this calibre.

Good point, although a C of A might be nice. Maybe look for the cheapest set intact.
Im interested in the finish on these coins, i have no bias towards any particular year but would prefer the coins to be all standard designs. I just want to get a set so i have an example of this type of finish on an Australian decimal coin. I guess what i need to know most is are all Wedding sets the same finish?
Hopefully my questions make some sense.
Edit: I see some are proofs, i like the fully polished type finish.
All the Wedding sets from 2002-2009 have the same finish :ok:
The quality of these wedding set coins isn't that well known But that seems to be changing lately and as more and more collectors realise just how good the coins in these sets are the scarcer they will become.
These sets are still pretty easily sourced at the moment with prices ranging from about $80-$130 But the sets from certain years are already getting hard to find.
I would suggest that if you want one or more of these sets that you buy them sooner than later because as the word gets out about these the more expensive they will become :ok:
Thanks, that answers my question, now to search for a bargain :D

I just had a look on eBay and there are a couple there at about the $90 mark.
I am still looking for a 2007 set to complete my second complete wedding set collection, This seems to be one of the scarcer years for some reason.
Maybe it is the low mintage MOR coin that is in this set that is the reason it is a bit scarce, As the wedding set coin would be a far higher grade than the mint set or pnc coins.
I see a few, ill work out which ones have standard designs, and keep my eye out, no rush.
These coins are Super Lustrous and are Buggers to image.
It is Fun trying though :)
Here are a couple of the 2008 coins to whet your appetite

I sent a set of the "In come the dollars/cents" to NGC to be graded and
all I put in the description part of the submission form was 2016 1c, 2c, 5c etc. to see how they graded these.
As the coins in this set are the closest thing to a wedding set coin the mint has produced since 2009 and NGC hasn't graded any of these yet I thought it would be a great way to "Test the Waters" before sending any of my Wedding set coins to them for grading.
Here are the results from that submission;

5FS = Five Full Steps
6FS = Six Full Steps
I have finished adding the coins to the NGC online form, Quite a pain in the bum But it is done now and I had to buy a new printer to print the pages out for the submission.
I have only put one each of the 2007, 2008 and 2009 sets in this submission because I am quite hopeful but not absolutely certain that they will get attributed differently than the run of the mill coins.
The only downfall I can see at the moment with these is that the NGC images are Crap on the cert verification page and you can't download them even if you wanted to :(
I will get these in the Mail tomorrow and hopefully I will have the results in about 3-4 weeks :)
I have completely given up trying to get these coins attributed correctly at PCGS So here's hoping that NGC can come up with the Goods for Me. :ok:

Have you got the cert numbers for the 2016 coins, I'd like to have a look.
For the Canberra Florins they will need another abbreviation:
3FS = Three Full Steps

They wouldn't have to put that on a slab too often, Given the scarcity of true 3 steppers :)
The cert#'s run from 2806922-001 to 2806922-006
There is a way to get trueview like images, I just haven't figured that bit out just yet

Thanks for that, you are correct, I think there is a way. However since NGC claim copyright they cannot be displayed here. I presume NGC don't charge for the images so they can do what they like but I suggest its their loss not to allow them to be disseminated on coin forums such as this one.
Quotebut I suggest its their loss not to allow them to be disseminated on coin forums such as this one.
I would think that they are prepared to put up with that loss to prevent authorised use of their images on eBay and the like
I found the imaging services area and prices range from $5 to $65.
Well I posted off the 3 wedding sets to NGC yesterday, a week or so after the 2 PCGS submissions.
I am most interested in seeing how NGC attributes these coins and as they don't have a huge number of Australian decimal coins in their pop reports so I am hopeful that they will be attributed differently to the run of the mill business strike coins.
I am thinking that the PCGS reluctance to attribute these coins differently is because they stuffed it up from the beginning and that they now have hundreds if not thousands of these coins wrongly attributed and it has become all too hard now.
NGC has virtually a clean start with these so hopefully they will get it right first time, Only time will tell.
If they are as quick grading these as they were my last submission I should have the results back within a month :good:
Will you b e advising NGC that these wedding set coins are a special mint process as against proof coins?
How does the costs compare between the two grading companies.
I take it you will save on postage as all indications that I am getting is that NGC is an Australian based company based here in Aust. Are my assumptions correct?

NGC is based in Sarasota Florida USA
The postage to NGC is the same as to PCGS but there is a big difference in the return postage for a 9 coin submission with NGC cost me $28 and the return postage for a 8 coin submission from PCGS cost $69.47, a $41.47 difference :dodgy:
I didn't send any documentation with the submission regarding how these were minted But I did ask that they be attributed as Proof Like or PL as Walter suggested :ok:
 gee that much difference in postage, ngc are looking better all the time :)

The NGC grading fees are also $3 per coin cheaper than PCGS if you choose not to use the secure option and the turnaround times at NGC WAY faster than PCGS at the moment as well.
I just had a look at my invoices and the 8 coin world economy submission to PCGs cost me $279.47 and the 9 coin world modern submission to NGC cost me $155 .
The PCGS submission took from 13/5/16 to 27/7/16 to be graded.
The NGC submission took from 25/7/16 to 10/8/16 to be graded.
Are there any dealers here that send to ngc  as most seem to use pcgs but if they're so much cheaper and quicker turn around time I'd be happy to use ngc
With the amount of Stuff ups coming out of PCGS at the moment I personally prefer NGC .
OK, but re reading this complete thread, I am getting the impression that OPCGS is the leader in coin grading and NGC are running a distant 2nd place.
Does NGC grading hold up as good as PCGS or is it that one is getting a bit tired of waiting on PCGS and taking the lesser of two evils?
I would like to get the rest of my 2000 Mules slabbed so your response(s) could influence where I send then remaining 18 Mules.
I better get in before AJ. Send them to me and I will return, post haste, a list of my gradings. :diablo:

I personally don't think that NGC are a distant second to PCGS at all.
In fact at the moment they are shaping up to be a lot better option than PCGS, Not only service wise but price wise as well.
I think that NGC and PCGS grades are pretty much on a Par and NGC seem to do a better job of attributing Non US coins than PCGS as well.
Choose whichever TPG that you want Goldie , It is your call Mate.
At the moment you would probably be able to sell your Mules easier in a PCGS slab But with some of the "Shady" grades coming out of the Hong Kong office and the lousy attributions from PCGS of late this may be subject to change in the future :ok:
There is also the problem with the large influx of low grade coins in PCGS slabs on the market that may make people think that the PCGS brand is associated with low grade coins, Nobody knows what will happen 5-10 years down the track.
Like I said Mate, It's your call :)
Read you load and clear trout. Thanks.

These coins ARE pretty much proofs, They were produced using the same techniques as any other Decimal proof coin only they are unfrosted.
They also could be described as Proof Like or Specimens as well.
The trouble with getting these coins attributed are manyfold But the Main hurdle is RAM's stupid "Gem Uncirculated Finish" description of the coins :dash1:
With the acceptance of slabbed and graded coins becoming more widely accepted by Australian collectors these particular coins need to be attributed differently to the Business strike and Frosted proofs that were minted from 2002-2009 because they ARE a very different coin.
Until NGC or PCGS step up to the plate and start to attribute these coins for what they are confusion will reign supreme.
Hopefully NGC will play the game :)
Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='95370' dateline='1471898998'Hopefully NGC will play the game :)
We will have to wait and see with that one Mate, hopefully I will be successful getting these attributed differently with NGC.
I have given up on PCGS coming to the party because they have graded way too many of these coins as MS now :ok:
Yes you would have thought that with so many high graded coins from 02 to 09 that the penny would have dropped :winkextra:
Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='95374' dateline='1471901815'Yes you would have thought that with so many high graded coins from 02 to 09 that the penny would have dropped :winkextra:
I am pretty certain that PCGS are fully aware that the wedding set coins are very different to the regular strike coins But they have misattributed so many of them so far that it has become too hard for them to rectify this now :dash1:
NGC on the other hand have a virtually clean slate as far as Australian decimals go So they have the perfect opportunity to get this "Right" the first time around.
I have just received notification that the 3 sets I sent for grading have arrived at NGC and the turnaround time is only 12 days, So I should have the results soon as NGC turnaround times are pretty spot on unlike the blown out PCGS turnaround times :good:
My submission of wedding set coins to NGC is "Scheduled for grading"
at the moment.
In the variety/pedigree part of the coin listing NGC has them pegged as "Wedding Set" :yahoo:
Now we have to wait and see how these are attributed/graded But so far this looks promising :good:
Cool, this might make pcgs pull their finger out but then again :dodgy:
Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='96250' dateline='1472603198'Cool, this might make pcgs pull their finger out but then again :dodgy:

Yes they seem to be set in their ways. But imagine all the money they could make if people sent ALL their MS coins in to get re attributed to SP or what ever.

That is where the problem ls, If PCGS fessed up that they mistakenly attributed the wedding set coins that they have graded so far then they would be liable for the postage to and from PCGS and the re holdering would also be free.
Oh I seen now, yes that would cost them heaps as there's been so many done that are wrong. Getting all these MS68's and 69's should have been a bit of a give away for them.
Emu's reaction in post #13 of this thread has given me cause to think that he and others are lobbying PCGS NOT to attribute these coins correctly and that this is what has been "Choking" my efforts with PCGS.:ireful:
IF this IS the case then it is a sad state of affairs if prominent collectors insist on these misattributed coins staying that way simply to keep their set registry status or to retain the illusion that the wedding set coins that have achieved the 68-70 grades are top of the range business strike coins in order to retain their resale value.
The set registries will be impacted if PCGS ever get around to redressing their mistakes and some collectors will have to find true MS coins to replace the wedding set coins currently in their sets.
This is a far better/fairer option that what is as I see it as "Cheating" by including the wedding set coins in the MS decimal registry sets :ok:
Anyway at the end of the day regardless of how long it takes the 2002-2009 Wedding set coins WILL eventually be recognised by astute collectors for their superb strike/scarcity and in my opinion will be regarded much the same then as the pre decimal proof coins are now.
That post does stand out as strange.
"Its too hard" is NOT a good excuse for not doing the right thing.
In my opinion, anyone with a wedding set coin in a set registry for normal coins is cheating. These coins are NOT comparable to other "normal" business strikes and do not belong alongside them.

I couldn't agree with you more Mate :good:
The deception has been going on for far too long and it is about time that these "Cheats" got a good kick up the arse by getting these coins attributed correctly :)
I wonder why they haven't said anything about the 1970 SP coins because there would probably be a few of them in set registers in high MS grades before they finally got attributed correctly :dodgy:

Mate , I got one of these back not long ago that wasn't only misattributed it was a corroded coin that PCGS gave a MS68 grade as well :dash1:
Now adding that little begger to a set registry would be a travesty.
These thing are what makes me wonder some times, is it really worth it :( In one sense it is IF they get it right but if they don't it makes it all a bit of a joke.
My Wedding set submission at NGC has moved up the line and is now at the "Grading/Quality control" stage, I should have the results next week. :yahoo:
When I sent these 3 Wedding sets to NGC to be graded I didn't check each individual coin like I normally would to see if it was worthy of being graded (Minimum grade 69), I simply took them out of the capsules they were housed in and put them in saflips then posted them off.
This should give us a rough idea as to what a Wedding set will grade at on average.
The grades for this particular submission for me are not that important, The important thing and is something that I am sitting on the edge of my seat about is how NGC Attribute these coins.
To say that I would be disappointed if this submission comes back with MS grades would be a huge understatement.
I am hoping for at least a PL designation and an SP designation would be an outstanding result :yahoo:
The results that I got back from my submission of in come the dollars/cents set coins which are close but not quite in the same league as the Wedding set coins gives me hope that NGC will grade and attribute the coins in this submission for what they are and not be influenced by how PCGS has attributed these coins or that "Brilliant Uncirculated" BS that RAM came up with to describe these particular coins.
On the submission form I described the coins as being PL ( as was suggested by Walter) and I didn't note that they were wedding set coins.
However on the coin list for this submission NGC have put "Wedding Set" in the Variety/Pedigree part of the list which to me makes me think that they are fully aware that these coins are quite different to a standard strike coin from the same era.
Here's hoping that NGC get it right fist time and that Maybe just maybe PCGS will be forced to admit its ignorance and finally do something about all the wedding set coins that it has wrongly attributed in the past :ok:
I was hoping to get the results back from NGC today But I forgot about the labour long weekend in the US :(
Maybe tomorrow
:whistle2:
You have NO idea how happy I am with these results, Regardless of how well each coin graded.
After all this time FINALLY these coins have been attributed correctly .

I got the results a bit after midnight WA time and did a bit of a dance around the annex in the middle of nowhere :)
Well done cobba :good: I know where I'll be getting mine sent when it's time to do them and so glad I haven't had the money to send to pcgs as that would have been a total waste of time and money. I see NGC have a timeout thing on the links you put up as it wouldn't let me look at all your results but some really good one's and now being SP they should demand a bit more of a premium :)
I am not sure about the extra premium bit Mate, But I am sure that from now on all wedding set coins that are sent to NGC to be graded will come back attributed and graded accurately and that the buyers of these at some later date will know Exactly what they are getting for their money for a change :yahoo:
PCGS have blatantly refused to attribute these coins correctly for years now either due to coercion or arrogance despite being fully informed as to how these were produced and how the coin looks "In Hand"
I have 2 submissions at PCGS at the moment and they will be the last that I will send, From now on NGC will get my business :good:
Well done Jim. It took a while but that is a good result.
Now, I wonder, will PCGS rethink sometime down the track?
Sometime it does pay to go with the underdog -We Try Harder (http://www.slate.com/articles/business/rivalries/2013/08/hertz_vs_avis_advertising_wars_how_an_ad_firm_made_a_virtue_out_of_second.html)
Gee blind Freddy can see they're not a business strike so I don't know why PCGS have been so reluctant but as you said there's something funny going on with them that's for sure :dodgy:
I think they should deserve a bit more of a premium like how the SP cookies have stepped up a bit after getting the SP, then they might not as it all depends on the market.
Be interesting to see what PCGS would do if you sent an NGC to have it changed over :winkextra:
QuoteBe interesting to see what PCGS would do if you sent an NGC to have it changed over Winkextra
I think that doing that would be a total waste of money and counter productive as the coins have already been graded and attributed accurately by NGC.
All I need to do now is to get some more slab album pages so that I can store the entire 48 coins in this series when I finish having them graded by NGC :)
Yes your right but me being curious would like to know if they'd finally attribute them correctly or if they'd give them an MS grade.
Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='97322' dateline='1473299507'Yes your right but me being curious would like to know if they'd finally attribute them correctly or if they'd give them an MS grade.
I really couldn't care less about how PCGS would react to these being graded as Specimens by NGC and how they would now attribute them.
They had ample opportunity to get it right over the last 3 years and they flatly refused for whatever queer reason to attribute these coins correctly.
The coins are already in "Righteous" holders and the rest of my Wedding set coins will end up in NGC holders as well :good:
I flatly refuse to waste any more time, effort or money with those clowns at PCGS trying to have these coins attributed correctly when NGC got it right first time, at less expense and in a timely manner, the submission only took 8 working days to finalise after they had received the coins :good:
True, if they don't want to do the right thing what more can you do.
I have a submission in with 3 pagoda's and 5 incused and was told 8 to 12 weeks turnaround and 4 weeks have gone and I know it's not the persons fault that sent them for me but it really is a joke they take so bloody long :(
Being so much cheap really appeals to me as well as having the wedding coins attributed for what they are and such a quick turnaround time..what more can you ask for :good:
I only had limited internet coverage where I was and I am now home So I have had a look at the images of my coins on the NGC site.
They are bloody awful :cray:
They do have an option for a trueview like image but at $15 a pop I think I will pass on that especially when I have 70-80 coins to submit ,Bugger.
looks like I will just have to take my own images But these coins are a absolute swine to image.
I have just sent yet another (and my final) email to PCGS asking them IF in future they will be attributing these coins correctly as SP and not MS.
I have added a couple of links to the grading results that I got from NGC recently as well.
It will be interesting to see first off if they bother to reply and if I do in fact get a reply what their policy in light of the NGC results will be in regard to the attribution of these wedding set coins in future :ok:
This is purely academic as I have NO intention of submitting any of my Wedding set coins to PCGS and I am quite happy to have them in NGC holders :)
Why would anyone bother to break open a Wedding Set just to get coins slabbed?
Original packaging is perfect
Yes the main thing I'm after with TPG is that it authenticates the coin so no one can say it's a fake, even though they have graded fakes before but they're pretty good when you consider how many coins they all do.
QuoteWhy would anyone bother to break open a Wedding Set just to get coins slabbed?

Quote from: 'runway' pid='97587' dateline='1473509140'Why would anyone bother to break open a Wedding Set just to get coins slabbed?

Because I can :ok:
Also because I intend to have the entire series of these 2002-2009 housed in an album with slab pages.
The coins will be easier to view and access and will be as well protected as they were in the boxes, probably better protected.
There is also the "Bragging rights" that go with the odd coin that makes it to a SP70 as well :)
There have been 300-400 of these Wedding Sets graded by PCGS this year according to the Population figures and they have all been attributed incorrectly, Mine are the first EVER to finally have the correct attribution given to this type of coin by a TPG, So why wouldn't I take the time and expense to get the complete set done :)
As getting these graded are going to cost me over a grand I was thinking of housing them in one of these.
I already have one that hold most of my Maundy coins and they look pretty "Flash".
They hold 50 slabs and the complete set of Wedding Set coins is 48, These are about $120 delivered.

Yes that's like mine and they're bloody nice boxes that's for sure :good:
I have a stack of the plaques that come with these sets, Maybe getting one engraved and gluing it to the lid may be a nice touch. The 2009 ones are nice with the bunch of grapes looking design on them :good:
I just ordered the box :)
I think I will get one of the little plaques that come with the sets engraved at the jewellers with "The Wedding Set Collection 2002-2009" on it, Any ideas as to what glue would be best to fix this on the box.
I do have some 2 part araldite that I use to fix my rod tips with, Would this be suitable for the job??
It sure would, just a couple of drops (or a big one in the middle) and it should be all good.
Araldite is good stuff. I once made the kids a mouse house that had a glass lid with a glass lift knob that was araldited on. I reckon the glass would have shattered if any attempt was ever made to remove that knob. But I did scratch up the contact area first to provide a good anchor point. If gluing to a shiny wooden surface it may help if a few small shallow blind holes were drilled at the area of contact. But that's probably using too big of a hammer :)
I have just posted off another 7 sets to NGC ( I doubled up on 04 and 06 sets) and if all goes as well as the last lot I should see some results by the end of the Month or early next Month :good:
I will send the other 6 sets next month so that I will have 2 sets of each and I will be able to mix and match them to make up a set of the highest graded coins to put in the new case :)

I was just looking through the next Numisbid auction listings and noticed that a few of the newly PCGS graded Wedding set coins are up for auction.
This particular coin however looks like a normal business strike and at MS68+ is a truly exceptional grade for its type, If it was a Wedding Set coin it would be an average coin at best.
If it wasn't for the wedding set coins getting mixed up with the normal strike coins this particular coin would probably be the finest known and would command good money I would imagine :ok:

That is a good question and one that I really don't know the answer to.
Eventually the Wedding set coins that PCGS has wrongly attributed in the past will become "Known" and collectors will be aware that they are NOT business strike coins and will seek the genuine MS coins for their collections amongst the already graded coins. .
Ideally the wedding set coins will eventually all be graded correctly as SP and can be added to the various set registries as such.
As for resubmitting your MS graded wedding set coins goes that is entirely up to you But I don't like your chances of getting PCGS to attribute them as SP at the moment :ok:
I think that eventually when collectors become aware that the wedding set coins are in fact a far superior coin to the normal strike coins and that the mintages are quite small they will gain in popularity.
At the moment most collectors are blissfully unaware that these Specimen coins even exist and they probably think that the Wedding sets from 2002-2009 are just another run of the mill Mint set in fancy packaging.
Time will tell what happens from here on in But if PCGS had of graded these at SP in the first place there would be absolutely NO confusion at all :ok:
i think you need a few of the original PCGS dealers to get on board and convince PCGS to change them from MS to SP
Quote from: 'frenc11' pid='98113' dateline='1474042272'i think you need a few of the original PCGS dealers to get on board and convince PCGS to change them from MS to SP
I am thinking that it is the influence that some of these people have with PCGS that has been been thwarting my efforts with PCGS in my endeavour to get these coins graded as SP because they don't want it to happen for whatever reasons.
Maybe now that NGC have got it right first time and have attributed these at SP Maybe PCGS will be forced to see reason and rectify their past mistakes.
It will be a big call for PCGS to do this now as there are hundreds of Wedding Set coins in MS holders that will need to be re slabbed to make it right.
I imagine that there will be a lot of resistance from collectors that have these coins in set registries that they have paid top dollar for being regraded as SP and loosing their rankings because of it.
There is also resistance from some dealers that rely on the wedding sets as a cheap resource of super high grade decimal coins for their inventories at the moment.
It will be interesting to see just how this all ends up in the future.
Good luck trout it seems you are fighting the battle by yourself , though i think having the SP will create another collectable set of SP coins if they add those sets to the registry

Yes it is pretty lonely out here on the front line all by myself :)
My efforts with getting NGC to recognise these coins has been an unqualified success and despite my failure with getting PCGS to come to the party I think that I have at least succeeded in making many Australian collectors aware of these wedding set coins that had never heard of them before and that in itself is enough motivation for me :good:
I have been ridiculed and abused at times because of my persistence with this but that's OK as Usually nothing really worthwhile is ever easy.
I like the idea of a registry set of these SP graded coins as a showcase of the high level of craftsmanship that RAM can achieve to produce these outstanding examples of Australian coinage :)

I actually don't care anymore, Let some other fool do the leg work on that one.
I am sick and tired of doing all the work and the lazy useless bastards that have whinged and moaned previously take full advantage of the end results.
Bloody Parasites :dodgy:
I have the new Box to house the 48 SP graded slabs here and I have had the little plaque from the 2009 set engraved, So all I need now are the coins :)
Here is the engraved plaque that I will attach to the lid of the box, Just as soon as I remember where I hid the 2 part araldite

For less than $200 I will be able to house this unique complete set of the very First Wedding Set coins ever to be graded as Specimens and be able to have them all in the same Box :):yahoo:
I am toying with the idea of having another of these plaques engraved with the dates they were Graded and putting it onto the inside of the lid :ok:

Non collectors don't see coins the way we do Bruce.
Most laymen would see a Wedding Set as a fancy box with a handful of change in it, We however see it as a set of superbly crafted coins :)

Thanks for the offer but I'm good. I have kept the packaging, although separate from the coins. I agree it does add to the history, maybe I should put it in the album with the coins but I'm not sure it would fit. In fact I kept all my RAM packaging and it takes up more room than the coins themselves but the coins do get better looked after.

what is worth more , a coin graded SP 69 from a wedding set or a coin graded MS 68-MS 69 from a mint set ???????

As there are many Wedding set coins already graded as MS/business Strikes by PCGS it is almost impossible to know the true population figures and grade distribution of the Business strike coins and to assign a value to them :ok:
The mintage figures for the business strike coins for the years 2002-2009 (inclusive) run into the millions yet the wedding set coins are pretty low mintages for every year.
Only time can tell if a wedding set coin at the same grade as a business strike coin will be valued at more or less .
What I do know is that a pre decimal Proof coin at the same numerical grade as a Pre decimal Business strike coin will attract more money at action due to their low mintages :)
My first batch of these coins have finally arrived home safe and sound, I have the rest of the sets on their way to NGC and should have them back by the end of next Month :good:
There are two wedding sets on EBay now for $155.00 plus postage if interested.

Thanks for the "Heads Up" Goldie.
At that price they are good value as long as the coins are still in pristine condition :good:
I only need 1 more 2007 set to complete my second set of these although the 2007 set is proving to be difficult to acquire at the moment :dash1:
This is one of the very first Wedding set coins ever to be graded as a Specimen .
I also like the way that the "Wedding Set" verity has been noted on the slab as well :good:

what is the average grade of the SP Coins in the wedding sets
Quote from: 'frenc11' pid='98558' dateline='1474535986'what is the average grade of the SP Coins in the wedding sets
SP69 Which is on a par with what PCGS grades these at on average.
It is very unusual to get a grade lower than 68 with these coins, As long as they have remained in their capsules and haven't been handled .
I am going to try and take some images of these coins tonight, They are incredibly hard to image though.
IF I am successful I am thinking of starting a new pictorial thread in the Public section much the same as I did with the 25mm Dollar coins.
When I sent this first submission into NGC I put these down as Proof Like or PL as was suggested by Walter as anything other than MS would be an improvement :ok:
I did 'Note" that the coins were sourced from Weddings sets though.
It was the graders at NGC that made the decision to (Correctly) attribute these coins as "Specimen" SP, Which is what I wanted in the first place :yahoo:
Here is the submission for that I sent with the coins.

What a load of BS.
The coins ARE Specimen strikes regardless of how certain people want to interprate the mints "Gem Uncirculated" description.
These have been the source of all the high grade MS coins in PCGS set registries and quite a lot of people have made good money selling these as MS graded coins knowing full well that they are SP coins and THAT is why PCGS won't attribute them correctly.
The BS will continue at PCGS while they are being lobbied by the people with a vested interest in keeping this dirty little secret. :ok:
My submission for the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 sets has gone from Received to "Scheduled for Grading" at NGC .
If the last two submission are anything to go by I should have the grading results back next week :)

I would imagine that you would be tempted if there was a return to using the original finish for these coins :)
in one word YES , i do not like how they changed the type of coin used in the last few years
I actually like both finishes :)
The Frosted Proofs are very easy on the eye and the "cameo" effect is appealing with the frosted devices and designs standing out from the perfectly smooth and deep mirror fields of the coins:good:
These can now also be obtained from the standard mint/baby proof sets.
The so called "Gem Uncirculated" coins from the original sets is however technically a far superior coin to the frosted proofs as the frosting on the proofs tends to "Soften" the detail on the coin, Where the Gem Uncirculated coins designs are sharp and highly detailed.
The same perfectly smooth deep mirror fields are on the earlier coins and the lustre is outstanding throughout.
I have both the Frosted Proofs and Wedding sets from 2002-2009 and they complement each other rather well and I for one would welcome the return of the original finish as the coins as they are now minted are just another set of the same frosted proofs but in a different Box :ok:
It would be economically viable for RAM to again produce the Wedding Sets in the original finish as the dies produced for the sets could be used with unpolished blanks to produce a similar coin as is in the "In come the Dollars/Cents" sets to use for the yearly Mint Sets .
This would justify making the specialised dies for the Gem Uncirculated coins for the Wedding sets and greatly improve the quality of the annual Mint sets that would be greatly appreciated by collectors at the same time, Sounds like a winning combination to Me :yahoo:
My latest submission at NGC has gone from "Scheduled For Grading" to "Grading/Quality Control" So I should have the results back either today or tomorrow hopefully :)
This submission has the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and the 2006 sets in it :ok:
I think that the people at NGC have more pressing issues as Hurricane Mathew bears down on them than worrying about getting my coins graded.
Here's hoping that they stay safe and its business as usual in a few days :ok:
This is an example of an extremely high grade Non Wedding set 2006 5c coin at MS68+
It is easy to tell that it isn't a wedding set coin by the texture of the fields, If the Wedding set coins were not mixed up as they are now with the business strike coins I imagine that I would have had to pay a hell of a lot more than $33 for this coin because it would probably be equal or single finest graded :ok:
For its type this is an absolutely stunning coin :yahoo:

r9453 Wrote: QuoteYou are correct, including the wedding sets (2002 - 2009) distorts the results.
According to the proposition, "The more coins you send over, the more 70s you'll get", if you sent enough coins for the other years then the MS70 populations would rise (and presumably match the wedding set years) but I'm not sure about that. There is a thing called diminishing returns and I doubt they made enough coins to produce that many 70s.
The chances of submitting batches of coins for the years other than the 2002-2009 Wedding set years to produce the same amount of MS69 and MS70 coins is extremely remote.
The thinking that "The more you submit, the more MS70's you will get" using coins other than the wedding sets and now the "In come the dollars cents" sets is completely flawed because for all practical purposes MS70 coins simply don't exist or is highly unlikely that they exist in coins other than the Wedding Sets/in come the dollars cents sets.
I think that MR Cotton has done me a favour by submitting the Wedding Sets "En Mass" because by doing so the population figures for coins graded MS68-MS70 that are the same coins found in the Wedding Sets are ridiculously out of proportion to any of the other coins in the decimal sets.
This can only help to support my case with PCGS that the Wedding Set coins are indeed a completely different coin to the rest of the business strikes and should be attributed differantly, The grading results that they themselves have provided proves this without a shadow of doubt :good:
Will PCGS take any notice that NGC have now attributed these as SP and also look at the highly disproportionate results for the coins that they themselves have graded in the Wedding Set years and make the correct call to attribute them as SP as well ??
Only time will tell But the longer they leave it the harder it will become for them to rectify their mistakes by attributing these coins as MS/Business strikes.
Surely PCGS should realise by now the evidence is overwhelming that the Wedding Set coins ARE completely different and a superior strike to ALL the other Business strike coins :)
RAM didn't call these as a "Specimen" set But they Did describe them differently to the other Mint set and circulating coins at the time.
And they were Minted as per a Specimen or even Proof coin as well.
Using the lame reasoning that RAM described these as a "Gem Uncirculated Finish" so they can't be described as Specimens doesn't hold any water Because "Gem Uncirculated" isn't a coin type it is a GRADE and the coins themselves are a VERRY different finish to the Business strike coins from the same years.
The results are in from my last Wedding set submission, Here are the numbers and I will do a proper breakdown tomorrow evening when I get home.

Forty out of forty two coins grading SP69 or better gives a pretty good indication of just how good the coins in the Wedding Sets are :good:
It is No wonder that Dealers and Canny collectors have been sending these type of coins to PCGS knowing that they would be graded as High MS to boost their profits/registry sets over the years.

Not to worry I will post the images on the wedding set images thread when they get here :ok:

All is good now, thankyou.
I have noticed on my Shipping invoice from NGC that this 42 coin submission has been sent in two separate packages with different tracking numbers.
This is fantastic as if they had been sent in the one package I may have had dramas with Customs at this end :yahoo:
The postage was also still Way cheaper than it would have cost me for the same submission from PCGS as well :good:
I just ran some numbers to see what my new Wedding Set collection has cost me roughly so far .
Set Purchases = $960
Grading fees = $1200
Display Box $120
Postage = $60
Total of $2340 or just under $50 per coin.
It sounds like a lot but considering there are 18 SP70 coins in there and this is the first ever Full set of Specimen circulation design coins from 2002-2009 I think that I have gotten value for my money.
I have just had a look at the Bluesheet values for the MS69 coins from the Wedding set years and I have noticed a dramatic reduction in the values across the board with the exception of the $2 coins.
I am not sure if it has anything to do with Mr cottons Mass submissions of these coins or that collectors are waking up that MS69 wedding set coins are Not that super rare after all.
My submission returning from NGC has been stuck in Melbourne from the 25/10 according to the USPS tracking.
I have a horrible suspicion that those toerags from Customs have grabbed them AGAIN :dash1:
I filled out the NGC online submission form ( a pain in the bum) then I got my gloves and all the other stuff I need to put together a submission only to find out that I am out of saflips :dash1:
I do remember giving my Granddaughter a few packs of them but didn't realise they were the last of them.
All is good I will get the ones I ordered from PP in a week or so and then I will send a few more coins away in the hope of upgrading some of the SP68 and SP69 coins :)
I would be nice to have at least one set with a perfect score of SP70 for all the coins :yahoo:

Quote from: 'trout' pid='99746' dateline='1476095240'This is an example of an extremely high grade Non Wedding set 2006 5c coin at MS68+
I have just finished imaging my 2006 Wedding Set coins.
This is the 5c coin from that set, side by side the different finish on the Wedding Set coin is easily seen :ok:
By lumping the Wedding set coins in with the Business Strike coins PCGS has devalued the higher grade Business strikes and have also debased the numismatic importance of the Wedding Set coins.
In comparison the Wedding Set coins only have a tiny mintage compared the business strikes and now many of these are mixed up with the other MS graded coins it will be difficult trying to sort out which are the Business strikes amongst them in the future.
The wedding Set coins ARE a different Strike and they have a VERY different finish/Look to the Business Strikes and I have great difficulty in reconciling why PCGS haven't attributed then differently to the circulation coins yet.
Anyway at the end of the day These coins WILL eventually get the recognition they deserve and PCGS will be known as the TPG that stuffed up badly even after they KNEW they were wrong :)
My last 5 sets are now at NGC and I should have the results within a couple of weeks and hopefully a few upgrades for my set :)
I prefer my wedding sets stay intact as a year set can't see why anyone would break open sets just to get slabbed

Because I CAN Peter, Because I can Mate :)
Anyway the entire collection takes up less space now in its new wooden box as slabs than it did in the original packaging.
I can also view any particular coin with ease without having to look through various boxes and repackaging them :good:
I am also the first person in the entire World to have a complete set of these coins Correctly Attributed and graded.:yahoo:
So instead of being a run of the Mill collector with a bunch of dusty boxes with coins in them that rarely get viewed I have opted to organize and store my Wedding Set coins a little differently, Each to their own Mate :dance2::dance::dance2:
What are those things in the picture above Trout?
Well done and doing the leg work certainly pays off.

What "things" are you referring Bruce ?
The wedding set packaging is nice enough but the coins within are what really counts. I can't see why anyone would prefer to keep the coins hidden away in the original packing which deteriorates every time you view the contents and positively discourages viewing the coins. I didn't go quite as far as trout and get them slabbed but mine are in SAFLIPS in PP albums for easy viewing and enjoyment. (The original packing is in a cardboard box somewhere in the back of the shed.)

HeHe
I quite enjoyed the Jousting with Windmills whilst it lasted and in a strange sort of way I now miss that
I think the most important thing that I achieved is to make other collectors aware that these particular coins ARE different and are far superior in strike/quality to any of the other Australian Decimal non Proof strike coins minted.
The only exceptions that I can think of are the Yarralumla and the Captain cook 50c coins.
Well done trout! You deserve all the accolades for being so persistent. :yahoo::wavemulticolor:

I think that there are many collectors and dealers that would rather throw rocks at me than roses at the moment Nancy because I have upset their little apple-cart.
Getting the Wedding set coins graded and slabbed has been quite lucrative selling them to the set registry collectors as business strike coins because of their pretty much guaranteed MS69 results and now all of a sudden MS70 grades.
Finding a MS68 coin from the years 2002-2009 that isn't a Wedding set coin is incredibly "Tough" and finding one that grades MS69-70 is pretty much beyond the realms of probability.
This is why the Wedding set coins were targeted for grading/sale and it is my belief that PCGS were more than happy to sustain the deception by NOT attributing them as Specimens.
If anyone truly believes that PCGS were not aware that the Wedding set coins are a completely different strike to the Circulation/Business strike coins I have a bridge in Sydney for sale at a bargain price
I thought Wedding Sets were marketed for a special gift for married couples not actually targeted for collectors
Indeed there were a few arranged marriages amongst collectors back in the noughties, so they could produce their license prior to purchase.

I doubt that the majority of these ended up as Wedding gifts, A few did but not that many I would think :ok:

My last Wedding set submission that is at NGC has been "Scheduled for Grading" for 3 days now, I should have the results next week sometime :)
Getting a bit "toey" now as the submission was listed as "Grading/Quality Control" yesterday, Won't be too long now :yahoo:
Hopefully when the 2007 set that Cougar helped me find arrives it will have some contenders to upgrade the ones I already have.
At the moment I have 3 SP68 coins in my sets that I would Love to upgrade to at least SP69 and one of them is a 2007 coin :good:
My results are back from NGC and I have upgrades in there for my set.
The only coin at SP68 is the 2007 5c all the others now have a minimum grade of SP69 :yahoo:
Here is hoping that the 2007 set that i have coming can supply me with a 5c that is at least a SP69 :blush2:
Trout can you please explain for me exactly what you are doing.
The way I see it you are breaking up the sets to have the coins graded. Are you keeping them as sets?

The wedding set coins in Specimen finish run from 2002-2009.
I am having them graded and I have put the entire 8 sets of them in the same slab storage box 48 coins in all :ok:

Thanks mate that clears it up.
Sorry if this has been covered before itt, I did a quick search but nothing came up. Is there a list of the wedding set mintages for each year?
Wedding Set 2002-2009 Mintages
Taken from Maccas 2014 Edition
2002 3322
2003 3249
2004 3963
2005 3627
2006 2752
2007 2629
2008 3278
2009 2824
Thank you very much!

Here are the Proof set mintages for the same years
Figures taken from 2014 Macca's.
2002 39,514
2003 39,090
2004 50,000
2005 33,520
2006 45,373
2007 30,716
2008 25,112
2009 23,527
The mintages for the circulation coins issued for the same years 2002-2009 are in the Millions, For example the 2006 COA 50c has a mintage of 62,445,000 and yet there are only 2,752 2006 COA 50c Specimen coins available.
Looking at these sort of numbers and it is Not hard to see that the Specimen coins in the Wedding Sets have Tiny mintages compared to all the other circulating design coins minted for the same years.
This is just one of the reasons why I think that these coins are interesting and eminently collectable :ok:
Thought I'd let people know that an 07 wedding set has been listed if anyone is interested

Well spotted AJ, This is the first set to come up on eBay in a long time.
I already have a graded and a raw set so I'm Good But I do suggest that if anyone is trying to complete a wedding set collection to grab this.
No I have absolutely nothing to do with the seller :ok:

QuoteNow all I got to get is 2010 and 2011 to get there
Good for you :good:
I haven't bothered with the 2010 and upwards sets as I already have these coins in either the proof sets or the baby proof sets for those years
Not a problem, I thought it might be appreciated :)
Yes it's the first 07 set that I've seen come up for a really long time and I'm the same and only get them from 02 to 09 :good:
It's like seeing them start at 99 cents, very very rare to see that now and then they still go for pretty good money, so that puts me out.
For some odd reason the 2007 sets seems to be particularly hard to find.
It IS the lowest mintage but not by much the 2006 and the 2009 sets mintages are not that much higher about 100 and 200 more sets But they are Not as tough to find as the 2007 set.
I have always found this to be somewhat odd, I wonder why this is the case?
I know it might be hard to believe but maybe the mint lied about the mintages. Could also be that one of the dealers is sitting on a heap of them, or they didn't sell so the mint trashed what didn't sell, who knows but yes it is funny that they appear to be so rare.
Same story elsewhere with other years, denominations and sets.
Could it be the mintage figures are not to be trusted? Surely not!
The 2007 set was the hardest for me - perhaps I' m not looking in the right places - evilbay and gumtree.
Same with the 2006,2010 and 2011 but still looking - they will come up again somewhere along the line
If I spy any of them I'll let ya know gabby :good:

Were Wedding Sets issued dated 2016?
If so were they issued in uncirculated and proof formats?
Did either of the sets have the changeover type on the obverse side? (or just standard?)
