Title: So here's one use for ratty coins...

This is probably illegal I would say, but that doesn't stop people bidding on them. There are a number of coins turned into pendants on feePay, but this is the cleverest one in my book.

I first saw these in 1961, they belonged to my Father-In-Law, but they're mine now.

Aust 2s 1927 Canberra  Cut Outs, 2 Diff versions, only 2 coins, just diff images.

They sometimes pop up on eBay. The 1927 florin can make a very attractive brooch, if it has been well done.

Andy would have to be one of the only people in the country, who has permission to destroy pre-decimal coinage (i.e. pennies, halfpennies, florins, shillings and sixpences). He also has been granted permission to use the design of the Australian dollar (the one with all those kangaroos). (http://www.coincarvery.com/)

Criminal offence in Australia (http://www.ramint.gov.au/designs/ram-designs/using.cfm)
Carved coins are common in the USA because there it is only an offence if coin is defaced with intent to defraud.

All things considered, his prices are quite reasonable for a unique piece. :)

I find the permission to destroy and the use the design of the Australian one dollar a bit of a tall story .......

It does not sound correct that one person would be allowed. ....

No, and my spies tell me they're going to be extremely rare and hard to get. I've heard ridiculous estimates of what they'll be worth, though given the insane bidding on the $2, anything is possible. :dodgy:
