I was watching the Heritage Auction live session today (very discretely at work)! I was very interested in this sovereign

Think that's a key date and finest graded by PCGS. For days I was thinking OMG may be no one will bid on it. I actually made a bid thinking OMG I might win this, which would be a fair bit of money for me but it would be quite undervalued. May be, just may be... the 10 people tracking it have forgotten about it, kidnapped by aliens, or something.
How naive of me. :laugh2: As soon as live bidding starts it jumped to USD18,800 with BP. :cray: The same coin had went for USD22,325 with BP in 2013.

This got me thinking... do people flip over key dates like this every couple of years?? How long do I have to get rich to make a realistic bid on these trophy coins when they do come up?
Gee that's a nice coin but at those prices I'm out so no competition from me kchan :( Good luck with your quest :good:
I couldn't afford it either. If I had gotten that I wouldn't have any money to get anything else for a long time. That wouldn't be much fun.
If it was the same person on both occasions that must have hurt a bit.
Maybe not as there's some pretty big fish out there with very deep pockets that like the big coins, one day you might get one but I understand what you mean as I couldn't do anything for over 12 month for that sort of money, no eating, no rego, no coins, no nufin.
I can afford one of the better examples of non-key dates in florins. But key dates in top grade is more a stretch goal.
Yes there are some giant fish out there. I kid you not - my boss (a billionaire) once brought in a bar of GOLD into the office worth several hundred k to show us. He had carried it in his little manbag and walk to work with it. He didn't really care if he had lost it tbh.
Gee it must be hard to have money, let me know next time he does that and I'll go ya halves :mocking: Nah just joking I'm not doing time for something silly like that as you then have to try and get rid of it, or try turning it into coins :)
i tuned in today for session 3 ...
they did 140 lots in the 1st hour !!
i was interested in proclamation coins , a helluva less $$ than that sov.
the exchange rate is the killer now , but buy now before it goes lower :(
It's strangely enthralling watching coin after coin scrolling by. Even though I have no idea what I am looking at you can't help but appreciate some of the designs.

Have a look at the India Colonial British Denomination Type Set (1835-1947) on PCGS set registry.
A couple of expensive ones to get but the majority are obtainable at quite reasonable prices at the moment.
Here is my work in progress, I have only been at this one for about a year.
The most expensive coin in my set only cost Me $327
