Well went to the old RTA this morn and asked about those rip off etag things and the nice young lass told me to get one via QLD because they're $25 up there but get this $80 for the same thing here, yeah great bloody state we live in and shouldn't have to pay tolls to use our roads anyway when they're built with tax payers money then leased out..what a very very bad joke this state is now :(
They should have booths that I can pull up at and drop the couple of bucks in but OH NO we couldn't do that and they want credit card but I refuse to have one and don't have a pin one as I forget the numbers but they said they can take it straight out of an account and I was always told not to give your personal bank details out but now it just seems common practice :dodgy:

Dare I say it? This is exactly why we need cryptocurrencies to take off. When you use fiat, whether its via direct debit or a card, you're trusting everyone who handles your payment, the bank, merchant, credit card provider and transaction processor(s) to protect their data. Sometimes they mess up, like when Target lost 40 million credit cards to a hacker. With crypto, there's nothing to hack, other than your private key which only you are responsible for *(unless you use someone else's key, like with an online service)*. MUCH safer, unless YOU screw up.
Anyway, as for tags, they're all the same, and any tag should work anywhere. Check out the pricing options on roam.com.au, as a visitor pass might be a better deal for casual use.
Me, I think the whole troll road thing is a massive con, and I just refuse to drive on any of the damn things. When CityLink was opened, I ran the numbers through a spreadsheet and came up with a total take of $150,000 from a commuter using it daily over its 34 year lifetime, with an ending toll up near $50 each way assuming the minimum quarterly CPI increases. That's bullshit in my opinion.
I just don't want to get caught like I did last time in brissie where the bloody road work made it that confusing it's not funny and nowhere to pull up so I was having kitten as I could see the RBH and knew that was where I needed to be but was going in the opposite direction and paid the price when i got home, dirty robbin bastards :dodgy: And I'm with you Fulvio it's all a really good con job.
And you know how hopeless I am so I'm sure to screw something up even with crypto, and I can't remember my pass words even after writing them down.. gee I'm a sad case :(

Yeah, well, we got caught in a storm up there way back in prehistoric times, and there were roadworks everywhere... Then I realised we were on a Troll road, but the exits had concrete barriers across them.
So when I got to the Troll gate, I pled ignorance and poverty... and the guy let us go on through!

Two things to think about. Often you can use your phone to pay there and then. The other is with a Sat Nav you can set it to avoid Tolls. Doing this will hopefully take the anxiety out of the situation. My parents got stung because after a trip they rang up to pay and the system was out for a few days. They then copped a bigger bill for late payment. I would have been fuming.
My phone is like me Chris, old and retarded, can only make calls on it, only has samsung so just took 5 mins to work out how to get the back off it and lucky for my loupe so I could see ge1200t so it's old and I didn't buy it as family gave it too me and nav thingy is like everything else and too hard for me to work out. It's all just way to hard these days and they say it's all easy :(
