Hi All,
well as most of us would know the Noble auction is coming up this week.
I went and had a look at a few lots over the weekend and am planning to bid on a couple of them. I can't attend in person so hopefully internet bidding works well.
Mainly intereseted in some of the date sets and key dates for Pennies, Shilling and Florins.
Anyone else eyeing anything off?
I'll have to let you know how I go.
Cheers.
Just put a bid on an item but wont be disappointed if I dont get it
but you never know
Thought viewing is not on over the weekend. I had to go during lunch time on week days at work.
Their web site did indicate there was no viewing over the weekend, but I called them asking for some photo's of additional lots that were not available on line and in the discussion the lady mentioned there should be someone available for viewing on Sat and Sun. So I rocked up Sunday morning and got into viewing. There were another 5-6 people in attendance, I think some interstate coin dealers.
Anyway missed all my lots this morning. Prices seem a bit expensive or put another way close to retail.
2/- 1932 VG went for $220 to 19.25%.
Hope people burn their money early and maybe I can get a bargain during the afternoon session.

I was watching session 5. Doesn't look like it. :(
Pretty sure I won a nice 1952 6p from a bid earlier today but will have to check tomorrow and as usual they
went straight to my maximum bid with no other competing bids.I should have learnt from the last time
HOW COULD THEY GET IT SO WRONG????
One of the highlights of yesterday's auction was items 1441 and 1442 Two of the unissued pattern trial 1988 50 cent coins with the CofA and the Parliament House.
Estimates were $1000 each.
Item 1441 went for $12,000 and Item 1442 went for $16,000
A quick scan of the prices realised so far in the auction would suggest that someone was not doing their due diligence on these two items.
I also noted a Yarralumla PNC went for $1,100 with an estimate of $100 !!
Then of course, you need to add about 20% to those prices.
Cheers

I don't think the Noble's experts know what they are talking about with many of the estimates
and it happens at every auction. Not that it really matters because people who know what they
are doing should be aware of how much an item is worth before making a bid anyway
Stevo,
I understand that issue of inaccurate estimates and quite often you will see up to factors of 6 times (especially when two people vie for the same item) but 12 times and 16 times is excessive in my opinion, especially when the items in question have a previous auction history - see page 136 of the latest edition of Mackas
or the Yarralumla PNC which rarely sells for less than $800 on Ebay, with an estimate of $100.
Every Yarralumla offered by the auction houses in the last 10 years have made at least $600 + commission !
Cheers

I skipped over to State Library to watch during lunch. Two guys were bidding over a German Bavarian coin to $2k. The estimate was only I think $100 or $200!
auctions can be fabulous free entertainment can't they?
it is really the fun part - until of course the coin that "I" want is up for grabs and pacific rim coins blows me outta the water in under 20 seconds ... then I sook and go an have a coffee .. double shot - stat!! ha ha
Managed to win this coin this week and had been looking
for a reasonably priced UNC 1952 sixpence for a long time and
now have managed to aquire 2 of them in about 6 weeks. This
one has quite a few die cracks.Must have been towards the end
of the life of the die

nice looking 52!
Hi Stevo,
how do you know you have won it, did you already get an invoice or did you bid at the actual auction and your number was recorded at the hammer?
Reason I'm asking is because I also think I won 1-2 lots but am not 100% sure and the wait is agonising.
I bid online before the auctions started and my bid is the max for 2 items but still the Noble site does not actually state that I have won anything.
Thanks
Michael

I know I won because the final bid ended on my maximum bid which I had placed the day before and I wasnt 100% sure so I rang them to confirm. No point dying from the suspense
Thanks again Stevo, I'll probably wait it out over the weekend and if they don't update the details online, I'll also be calling them come Monday.
Had some spendings put aside and jumped on the computor Tuesday night to have a shot at a proclamation coin.....bugger, I forgot about daylight saving, and in the end it would have cost me a minimum of roughly $1500 including commission.
Wednesday morning going to work my faithfull old HJ47 ute blew a gear box. Funny how things like this pan out.
Congratulations Stevo on the great pickup and Autocoupler don't worry mate maybe your car is telling you to hold out for a better coin albeit in an rather expensive way?

That's the way it goes OMF. The old ute just about qualifies as ancient, a bit like the coins you have shared your knowledge about on another thread. I can see it now, one ancient for sale, minus gear box ha ha

Stevo
The obverse doesn't look Unc in the image; plus what are those flaws above and below the kings ear?
I think it will be OK Neal .It has a few contact marks and the mark above the ear is hard to see with
the naked eye.It is also quite lustrous which doesn't show up on the photos and Nobles billed it
as choice unc
Gee I like the die cracks on both sides of it Stevo, well done mate :good:

They were interesting items, I bid on both, way above the reserve. However, then it started to get crazy. I was surprise. Anyway the estimate is only a guide, I am sure we all have been blown away at some point in time with the estimates vs reserves.
