I will contribute THE PRESIDENTS CUP 2011 $1 coin - Posted Monday 16th March
I won't take part but I'll put something in the prize pool.

I will donate these 4 Uncirculated 50 cent coins. No entry into the draw for me either.
As I have organised this contest, I don't feel that I can enter it either,
So I will just make a donation also.

When it gets to 499 can I sign up again :blush2:

I was wondering how that could happen, and I still don't know unless their account was deleted by the administrator (I don't see a 'Leave the Forum' button anywhere), but in looking at the Member List, there are 21 pages, 20 per page with one page of 6 making up the 406. Of these 406, 14 by count are banned meaning there are only 392 active members. Since the prize could conceivably be of some value, we should clarify whether we are speaking of 500 registered members including the banned or the 500th active member at the time of joining which would require some inspection to determine. I know it's likely that there will be 500 registered members including the banned long before there are 500 active members, but you never know what technicality someone will grasp upon to claim something of value or prevent someone else from doing so.
Sometimes I'm too technical for my own good, and I apologize.
Nah ya right mate and no need to apologise John and like so many things today the figure are very dubious to say the least here to say the least, they wouldn't want to wait for a true 500 active members or be waiting a bloody long long long time because there'd be lucky to be 50 regular posters, and a leave forum button would make it very interesting to see how many members there actually are because if you look there are so many that sign up and never posted and haven't been on for many many years and don't even lurk. I'm getting use to dodge figures here but it makes the books look good and full so it's all good :winkextra: I've had my time of being nice to forum members only to be burnt time and time again because most don't appreciate it, gee it's hard to even get a thank you these days so I really can't see the point because it only makes me depressed. there are only a very few members that actually appreciate things and do things because they care and I'd name them but then who cares right. I personally can't thank people enough even when they do little things like send a message to see how I am but not that that happens very often, might just be because I'm old and from the bush.
Think I need a very long holiday and if I actually had a life or something that resembled one I wouldn't have to keep coming back here all the time :(
KILL ME
The reason for the difference in numbers is there were 2 new applicants who had not yet been approved.
I was waiting for them to respond to a message from me, basically confirming that they were real people and not just spammers.
I usually give them 48 hours, and in these 2 cases I waited at least 5 days and there was still no response, so both were deleted.
Then there would have to a short waiting period after the 500th member joins in order to know the number was real, however it was determined.
This could be a long wait.
Forum is 30 months old and has 406 members. That is an average of around 15 per month -however you would expect a surge of members in the first weeks then settle down to a slower, steady rate of joining.
Last three months we have averaged 7 members per month. At that rate this draw could be expected in about April next year!
Good news is that is plenty of time to accumulate a very good prize pool.
If it drags out too long then maybe we need to find an excuse to advance the draw -special Secret Santa prize, winter solstice, Melbourne Cup day, Ramadan, Diwali...offhand I can't think of anything that might be appropriate.
Got it!

Good point. I am working off the number of members, as shown at the bottom of the first page when you log in.

I had thought about that. If it does drag out to long, we can change it to 450th member or whatever.
I'm hoping that the contest might provoke an increase in members though.
Quote from: 'Triggersmob' pid='69409' dateline='1426896254'I'm hoping that the contest might provoke an increase in members though.
Prospective members won't know anything about the contest unless something is posted in the public area, and unless the new members get at least 20 posts and submit a contribution to the prize by the time of the 500th member, none of them can receive anything, especially the 500th member. What is the incentive for new members to join?
QuoteI'm hoping that the contest might provoke an increase in members though.
Probably not as only members see this thread. I often recommend this forum to coin collectors but would not give this prize as a reason to join.

Nah, not thinking of what's in it for me, just what may be the more appropriate collectible from my point of view to contribute.
My collecting habits have dropped off to just one or two interests so I don't want to be included in the draw.
Have given it some thought, I reckon a couple of the rarest 1922 pennies (my opinion only), even though not hugely desirable, but could be of interest and may encourage someone to seek out the other dozen or so. Will post a pic later when this storm passes and there is some better light.
Oops, they're a bit on the big side. All low grade but the first two are extremely scarce in my opinion. Would have thrown in an extra wide date without the spiked tail 9 but only have the one myself. I'm thinking these are pretty scarce as well.

Just updated my Brothers computer to 10,clean install, and i noticed that some of the Forums he visited to log in had a little banner pop with a "Welcome and to log in or register click here etc." to access full Forum(or something like that). You have to actually click it to remove so you can see what Threads are open to the public.Might be worth a thought for here.

I am a classic hoarder. I will fall in love with it. No matter what.
I think it would be a great idea to have a list of what is in the "Pot" so far so that new entrants will have an idea of what to add to it , also it would be good not to duplicate what is already there.
It may also encourage members to participate and put their name in the hat for the drawing of the winner :good:

Most forums are lucky to have 10% of members as active posters. This one isn't much different.
I'm hoping to contribute something towards this initiative when I get home tonight....It's a great competition.
And while I've been a member for a while, my engagement with the forum ebbs and flows with how much time I can contribute to collecting.
Life gets in the way.
me too.

I send them an email just to make sure they are kosher, and many of them never reply so they get zapped.

The German notes had some deep creases so I wasn't sure if they are in good enough condition. But I thought it's something different and not represented in the pool so far. They date back to 1910s to 1920s.
Just been going through my German notes and found a couple of duplicates. I will contribute these two as well.

I might have another one coming up shortly, but it won't be as big as this one.
oh golly :yahoo:
my birthday is coming up - maybe I should wait to open the parcel?
I still can't believe that I won it
never win things you know
my lotto ticket today was a fail .....
ps spotted the two 100 Years of Anzac coins - my father was in PNG in the second world war and I used to swim in the Long Tan pool either every day or every second day when I lived in Townsville - funny how you make connections with coins
far out - there is a beaut 1964 penny smack in the middle - wow!!
thanks heaps everyone
much excitement in the house today
my parcel arrived safe and sound - and the stamps aren't checked - bonus
thank-you so much to everyone
gee and there are TWO 1964 pennies (yippie)
Ok a quick mention on some items:
thank-you Auto for the 1922 write up as well - my hubby is a keen collector of these and has already given them the once over
the son has quickly eye balled the world coins and was very excited about many of these coins - bit of a historian and telling me about the state of the social and economic conditions etc of the various countries
the 50c are fabulous
the proof 1969 and 1972 coins are very very lovely with the 1972 twenty cents being an absolute knock out - beautiful blue cupro tones
the German & American notes are tops
the Zimbabwe inflation note is great
the change over folder with the new coins is fantastic - I haven't even seen the new 5c and 10c in circulation - I didn't expect the folder to have coins in it (fanks!!)
all of the folder $1 coins are also very cool
and the series of the Anzac $2 is really nice (there is even a purple $2 coin as well)
and to top if off there is a USA 2015 One ounce Silver coin
so I feel very spoilt and once again thank-you all
it was interesting watching the read up as things progressed towards draw and then to finally join in and win is a real blast
I feel as if I have been to an auction, grabbed a lot 'sight unseen' and then come home to play
it is always great fun to pull out the catalogues and start looking up coins (which we have started with i.e. 1997s proof dime etc)
thanks again - really brightened up our day as we are both home sick
Robbiegal, sorry to hear you are sick.
Even through cyber space I can see the smile on your face.
We might have to do this again for the 1000th member. :)

the hubby is still very interested in my new 1922 penny set
I offered it to him ... go on - you can add them to your collection
and he was aww naww
then proceeds to reread the instruction sheet for the fourth time ha ha
very complicated business this varieties stuff
there is also a 1933 (?) overseas coin (darn it i have forgotten already) that has a variety and he was going over that to confirm , alas no variety but fun finding out
having the world coin book catalogues is a great help
yes thank-you it has been a great way to spend the afternoon
I am setting the coins up in album pages & labelling as best I can

Hope you're over the bug soon RG, it's never fun as my wife can attest, she's just getting over a severe case of tonsilitis poor thing.
Glad you and hubby are happy with the 22's. One that isn't there will be the extra wide date without the spike on the tail of the 9. I don't think it's as scarce as a couple of the others, maybe it is, but I only had the one myself. Hubby will most probably have it anyway, he being into these himself.
Oh, another piece of info that just came to mind is there are two different wide dates (not to be confused with EXTRA wide dates) without the spike. Just one of these was included because I only had a single example of the other, but have since found another. If I manage to find one further (trying to make up two sets for the kids) will send it on to you.
Rigged :mocking: Just yoking, well done RG :friends:

a few years ago Fred Lever bought a '22's set off the hubby from his ebay shoppee
Fred proceeded to publish an article on them and used his photos as well
the hubby and Fred communicated a bit at the time about these issues
Fred and I used to communicate a bit but my interests were around the 1925 penny and 1946 penny varieties - which reminds me Fred has one of my 1925 pennies that I sent to him years ago!! better chase that up!
I will ask the hubby about that wide date & see if he has any and post piccies for your comments

I have enough here now to share with me mates
Congrats Robbiegal!!!!!
