Title: RE: Where do you fall, age survey

You will start to see more people get into collecting now that some decimal coins are getting harder to find.
Its only been 49 years since we changed to decimal and the old money is expensive to build a set.
What we need is when someone cracks open nanny's coffee tin full of coins is to think I wounder if any of these are collectable not just take them to the bank, It's also getting a lot easier to get information now as well.
Collecting in Australia in general has been slow to adapt to the internet, The information was not there or to hard to find.
But now with the Facebook groups the information is a lot easier to find, one of the Buy swap sell sites has over 5,000 users at this point in time and the ask a question site has 1,800 so I would say its picking up.

So who here is on any of the Facebook groups that are out there.
You don't have to link them or say what one just if you do use any or not.

FB now that's funny, not a nice site at all and some of the people are very strange to say the least. They either don't have a clue or are only there to rip people off and most think they know it all and that's why they don't come to sites like here where they could actually learn something. I even got a ban from there because of some @#%$* so it's very rare for me to go there now because I don't need the aggravation and the people here are only to happy to help if they can :)

You also have lots like APCGS and they don't like being told and their follower that also like to rip people off, gives me the creeps now even thinking about it.

Was listening to the radio the other day and there were a heap of young people calling in saying about the bullying there and how they had to call the police and get restraining orders to get people to stop and how they got targeted for no reason except someone didn't like them for no reason and this one girl said she wrote to the person attacking her asking what she did as she didn't know the person at all and near killed her self so makes me wonder how many people do because FB will not do anything, very sad is all I can say :(

I'll put it this way, you can find me on FB but there's no info about me at all.  One of my own adult family members kept sending me the most utter drivel, 30-40 times per DAY, so I went in and de-activated the whole shebang.

The thing with Facebook bullying is that it gets blown out of context.
Every kid from 13 up has Facebook so they have contact with people out of school that they wouldn't have when I went to school, You went home and if you were lucky you might catch up with a couple of mates. Now they go home and have contact with just about every one in there year level.
They don't have to ring the house phone and talk to someones mum or dad before they talk to the person and most parent's aren't vigilant about what there kids do online or there mobile phones.

The thing with the collecting groups is like anything else you need to be wary about what people say and check what they say.

The way not to get ripped off is to. Buy thinks that you like or want and pay a price you are happy to pay,Then don't go checking the price to see if someone has it cheaper.
If you happy to pay the price because you want the item for you collection then you can't be ripped off, If your buying the item to flip straight away and make a quick buck your not angry because they ripped you off your angry you didn't rip them off.

I have payed to much for coins and I doubt my Kids could sell them for a profit in 80 years but that's not why I purchased them, I purchased them for my enjoyment.

If it's blown out of context, if this is so why have the government started a minister thing for it, I think it's a bigger problem than a lot of people think and hope it's not one of your kids that kills them self because of it. As for the kids well they spend enough time on computers at school and you can see how ante-social they are now and getting worse by the day and I think it has a fair bit to do with being cut off from human contact and because it's easy to bully someone on it. I have seen people try and sell fake coins and lucky that there are some honest people that say they're getting ripped off so then attacks on that person, you have to be mentally stable to use it or there's a very expensive price to pay :(

It's like anything you buy.The seller wants to make a profit and the buyer wants to get a bargain but if the buyer hasnt got a clue then there is a good chance they'll get ripped off and if it's on facebook then there's a good chance a lot of people will see the sale as it can be a very open forum. You also have to be very careful what you say on facebook as everyone can see your comments and its easy to piss people off so I usually keep my derogatory opinions to myself so I have access to the bargain
buys even if its from an idiot knowall jackass.Like it or not facebook is gaining a lot of momentum and I'm in a buy swap sell group with 15000 members and that is a lot of exposure so it cant be all bad.Its a good way to keep in touch with like minded people

I'm in about 50 groups and regularly sell plants , antique furniture and buy coins.I should really start
selling coins there as the some of the prices realised can be quite high and there's no fees

I'm a heavy Facebook user.  I'm currently in seven groups, two related to my hometown, and five related to my timeshare in the Cancun, Mexico, area that I am evaluating. I have been in coin groups, but I found that certain members there would 'friend' me and involuntarily enroll me in groups of theirs solely to increase body count. After some incidents, I dropped them all including those 'friends' and now restrict myself to people I know in some way, their friends, and people I have personally met. I am much happier.
I have 'liked' several coin pages, mainly people I have done business with, some of whom I have personally met, and others I am interested in,  including one produced by our host.
I rarely post any coin related topics or comments.  I mostly post pictures of flowers from local botanic gardens or local news items and comment on posts from my friends as appropriate. I ignore the endless political and religious drivel from some and provide none of the same to them.
I know many people who think Facebook is a waste of time.  I respect their opinion.  I find it fun myself since I would otherwise hear nothing from most of the people I'm connected to.
I'm 'friends' with four people from this forum.

What I mean by its blown out of context is they make it sound like its an unstoppable relentless assault, when in actual fact you can block people from sending you messages, go to there school or go the age old favorite and smack them in the mouth.
When you listen to any of the stories the parents always say I had know idea it was happening which begs the question why aren't you monitoring you children's activity or if its a second account they have started so you can't see what the are posting or messaging to other people the truth is your daughter has probably had more pricks than a second hand dart board and stepped on someones toes.
People have called the town bike a slut for a lot longer than we have had the internet.
At schools now if someone bullies you in the playground verbally day in and day out the school will just tell the student that is getting bullied to walk away and do nothing else, if the student getting bullied smacks the bully in the mouth they get expelled.
My nephew got locked in a sports shed on a 40 degree day for 30 minutes by kids in grade 5 and 6 when he was in grade 2, when he got out he called on of them an arse hole. My sister had to go to the school and have a meeting with the principle because he he used foul language, the principle then explained to my sister that it was okay that they locked them him in the shed because they were just messing around and it was "harmless",but my nephew was suspended.

Ewwww... FailBook.. yuk.

Yeah, I use it, but only because I have a couple of people in a permanent chat I look in on more or less daily. Otherwise it totally sucks.

Both Reddit and Google+ are better than FB. And for groups, nothing surpasses Google Groups, which has the distinct advantage of pushing posts out by email.

I honestly don't know what the answer is. But I suppose you can get it all on the mobile these day and take it to a current affair because the police sure don't want to know about anything, it makes me sick to see especially these young girls and their mothers kicking others in the face and the like..it's not a society I'm proud to be a part of that's for sure and nothing like when I was young. Yes there were fights and bullying but nothing like what happens today and the parents are as bad if not worse than the kids so where does it all end :(

All Facebook group discussion here please.

I've dipped my toes into the FB groups in the last few weeks.  There's a bunch of people in the groups but it's no different than here.  There's people who know a lot, people who think they know a lot, and the vast majority of people who don't post a thing.  Pretty much exactly the same as every other internet forum I've ever been a member of.

I started to use FB to join SS owners club about 6 months ago. Since then have joined a few others like Yarra Valley notice board and so on, good for information in my area. Plus you add family members as friends and you see what there up to at times where you might not ring each other to let them know because its no big deal but just nice to read there activities at times. But agreed, there's a lot of dribble on there as well.

Similar story, guy from my School Days rang up and he's organising a 50 year reunion and wants everyone on FB to facillitate the finer details.Never bothered with it before then, joined a couple of the Coin Groups but first impressions were that its very iffy in many cases with mock/scam auctions and overpriced Coins.I guess there are many genuine people,it just takes time to sort it all out.
