Title: Fuel watch
Post by: ausjack on March 06, 2015, 11:25:18 AM
Ok as the fuel has just jumped up from just over $1.16 a litre to just over $1.33 over night :dodgy: I thought I'd start a post for people travelling so they can try and get the best buy when on the road so if you see it cheaper along the highway you can fill up cheaper, and that's around Grafton.

I filled up with E10 at Dubbo the other day (Big BP station at the fuel depot) for 117.9¢/litre. Noticed diesel at 124.9¢. Arriving home that evening I saw 129.9¢ and 135.9¢. Big difference for a tankful.

The right way to do this would be with a Google map that everyone could edit in exact locations, prices and most importantly time stamps. You can even add pics on there if you wish. Plus I suspect they already have all the servos indexed.

Actually, belay that...

Its been done already:

That's ok Fulvio but it doesn't have all the Grafton prices...this is what lets the net down, they say everything is there but it's not and woolies isn't that cheap as it was the same as the others so it needs and update so when travelling it's not that handy if the prices are wrong :( But nice try mate :good:

I see ten servos with the cheapest being United @ $1.31 an hour ago... how many you got there anyway? And you should be able to update it.

Fuel prices increasing is rather ironic considering how much the price of Oil has just collapsed. Even in the US they are having to consider shutting down extraction points and the companies are facing utterly massive write-downs on their current holdings.

You were expecting different?

On the way down, massive collapses gave us a few cents cheaper prices. Then a couple of bucks uptick wiped out all the discounts overnight.

I wonder if I'm the only one thoroughly sick of getting screwed just for living in this country. :(

Compare the oil price at http://www.oil-price.net/ with any of the petrol markets on http://petrolspy.com.au/#!/graph/melbourne for example. Even factoring in the exchange rate, its a bloody ripoff.

Gee I don't know, quite a few but not as many now coles and woolies have put a lot out of business, I can think of about six off hand that have shut in resent years :( Oh didn't realise we up dated it our selves :good:

Nah I'm with ya about getting screwed all the time, dinner and flowers would be a nice change..or a bit of lube occasionally  :laugh2:

Hello,

We are following England with supermarkets selling fuel. Short term gain, all the local independents go out of business. Then with no competition prices go back up. I have stopped shopping at Woolworths for other reasons, the staff were always good but there are other things I dont like. When you buy fuel, work out the cheap days in your area and buy in the morning. You buy by volume, not weight. When it is cold, more weight for the volume.

True, but it is usually stored underground and temperature variation is negligible over long periods (and tends to lag surface/air temperatures).

We don't have cycles here but wish we did. The people at coles and woolies crack me up because they're always pushing for us to use the self serve and I go "no thanks I'll use the service checkout, because don't you realise it's doing you out of a job" but they just look at me funny and say no it's not but you see it getting worse all the time with one or two checkouts open out of twenty so it is happening slowly but surely and same as self serve servo's where they use to fill your car and clean the windscreen etc, and look at where we are now and some people just can't see the writing on the wall. Don't think there are any or many servo's left that come out to serve you, they hide in the little cages in stead. Gee I noticed when I went to sydney they you can get a card and fill up any time so you don't even have to have staff any more, what's the world coming too. Gee it's good to get a lot of this out :)

Hello,

With Fuel it is rare to find a not self serve, but at the Super Market why should I do the work and still pay the same ? The fact that they sell more " Carrots " in a week than they get in a year shows it is costing them. But they will raise the prices. For a 24 hour shop with minimum staff, self serve and Card only during the Night would reduce the risk of robbery.
