Title: grading my self now
Post by: ausjack on February 15, 2015, 02:28:57 PM
Well if he can do it I'm going to grade myself now and just put in 2x2 and make stuff up, seems to be acceptable but I like the circulated coin he puts "proof like" on but have noticed he's either changed the description or renamed them to what they should be :dodgy: Is there such a beast as a "proof like" coin.

At least he didn't Polish this one :laugh2:
It must be PR68 because of all the defects in the fields , The higher number of defects = higher grade must be the way he graded this  :laugh2:

A proof coin should be "proof like" I would think.

Hey AJ, Good to see you back here mate  !

I have seen others use the term "proof like" when a coin is well struck and fields are well defined....

Non proof coins can be "proof like". A number of the 34/35 florins are called proofs (even by PCGS) even though they are not true proofs.
Likewise the 1930 "proof" pennies.
Also it wasn't unusual for ex proof dies to be used to strike circulation coinage and dealers will often call these "proof like".
Then there are the pre decimals struck with chrome dies and the coins appear proof like.

I think high grade is better and closer to the truth than proof like but thanks for the input, I find these things interesting :good:

Slightly lower grade could be called a proof like coin.. ie MS62 coin could be called a proof like due to the appearance / if proof dies were used for business strike.

Some of the coins he graded are MS68 and he states that he tries to find the middle ground. Must be the best uncertified grader going around. I would atleast try to slab them and then make up some grading company name and then pass it on?? or off??

I think that seller gets some coins graded by that Apcgs mob
which is dodgy brothers incorporated

hey AJ - that listing that you linked doesn't say proof like - it says proof

yeah I know RG but just saying he had a lot of coins that said proof like and some others say it as well and yes he has had a lot graded by you know who, gee I can't even bring myself to say their name any more because it churns my tummy :(

I just put that up for the professional grade written on the 2x2 and it's about as close to PR68+ as what I am :winkextra:

This person is Renowned for polishing coins and BS grades.
Even with the Crap images you can still see the "Spotting" and other imperfections on the coin this thing would struggle to make PR65.
This Guy LOVES APCGS because they grade his crap and he passes it onto the Ill informed and he is doing rather well at this stage.
I have been having a running battle with one of his
"Cohorts" that resides in Tasmania and her address is at a Church for Christs sake.
Honesty and Integrity is NOT this Sellers biggest attribute IMHO :ok:
