Title: 2015 Circulating Coins
Post by: purplepennyhunter on January 26, 2015, 02:44:20 PM
Does anyone feel a bit let down now the Mint has swapped new coins in all denominations so there's no more excitement over what coins will be minted for circulation this year. It's all over in the first month!

Those who attended the coin swap this morning can confirm it's now only the Mob of Roos for 2015 that is in question as they've issued the 100 years of ANZAC $1 dated 2015?

I've seen some photos on FB today apparently of 2015 MORS, so they could be out there.

I got my mint set coins for 2015 last year which included a MOR coin.
I have had it graded at PCGS and it came back MS64 :(

The 2014 mintage of the Anzac coin was an absolute stuff up by RAM as it was issued 1 year too early so I imagine that this year it will be the circulating commemorative coin.

Buggr ...... I can't find the pic now. (Stupid FB). It did look like about 15 of them in a plastic bag (not a security bag).

At least we know what to look for now.
But I wouldn't be surprised by another commemorative appearing during the year.

And was it the coat of arms 50c or not?

Expect more counterstamps in 2015
Interesting about the 2015 Anzac coin same as last years released a year too early?

I think you've missed the point. I'm guessing you'll see that Anzac dollar coin every year with a different obverse date from the year your boys sailed for WWI to the year they came home.  It does have 2014-2018 on the back.

When can we expect to see a Sir Philip Mountbatten coin turn up? Or do we have wait for him to be "late".

That would be something -Betty on one side and Phil the Greek on the other. :mocking:

It would make "heads" the best call for any decision maker/tie breaker toss.

My next question along these lines is, how do we known or how can we find out the planned mintage figures for 2015 crom the RAM?
Title: RE: 2015 Circulating Coins
Post by: Pedro on March 02, 2015, 10:19:18 AM
On some occasions the RAM will advise mintages in advance for some of the lower mintage coins eg the AIATSIS 50c, the coloured $2 remembrance issues.

Otherwise we have to generally wait until the RAM annual report is released around late October each year (for the year ended 30 June each year). However, the RAM mints a year's coins across financial years so that determining say, the 2015 mintages, you need to also take into account the production numbers from the 2016 RAM annual report.

A coin that is apparently rare based on the 2015 report may not be so once the following financial year's production of 2015 coins is added in.

All in all it takes a while!

Pedro

Thanks Pedro,
I've scanned through the RAM press releases for 2014 and also last years (2013/2014) annual report, but still couldn't find any advise on the lower mintage of the AIATSIS or $1 MOR.

How exactly is the RAM sharing this info?
Title: RE: 2015 Circulating Coins
Post by: Pedro on March 02, 2015, 04:19:44 PM
mkonst - mintages may be flagged via RAM media release when they announce special new coins eg the 2012 Remembrance $2 etc. If I remember correctly the mintage of the 2014 $1 MORs was foreshadowed at a function that the RAM held for dealers and the word spread from there.

If there is anything that is looking like a low mintage coin there are a number of forumites with very good connections that keep us up to speed with likely mintages.

Thanks again, I did initially find out of the low mintage of the 2014 MOR from my dealer, this was before I got onto this forum.

I'll keep my ears tuned to see what will be worth looking out for from the 2015 set of circulating coins.

I thought the planned mintages were 2,000,000 and 1,000,000 respectively. I can't remember where I saw the AIATSIS mintage but it's mentioned at http://www.australian-threepence.com/coin-news/2014-aiatsis-circulation-50-cent/

Unfortunately that seems to be the RAM acceptable standard for circulation coins in recent years.
For a special issue like this, and with all the hype and feeding frenzy they generated, you think they would try to do better. I bought a few of these and have one that looks just slightly better than yours pictured.

{edit}
PS. They can do better -some of the early year 50¢ and $1 commemorative coins (especially those issued in rolls) reached circulation in much nicer condition.

I doubt anyone on this forum knows the answer to that 5 rubles.  :dontknow:

We might get a small clue once the RAM Annual Report is available (possibly in late Oct or early Nov), but the info in it is not always of much use as sometimes mintages are spread over 2-3 years. :scratch_one-s_head:

Although this thread is dealing with 2015 Circulating Coins and a wee bit of a mention of NCLT's, I have this day counted the number of Alum-Br $1 coins for 2015 and the total is 20.

However, I do not have the Incuse Aussie Map nor the NRL or the AFL Coloured coins yet.

With those, the total comes 23 coins for the year.   (That is the total of circulating and NCLT's combined).

Quotethe total comes 23 coins for the year

HeHeHe The year isn't over yet Goldie, they still have a few weeks to punch a few more out Mate.
The sheer volume of the 25mm dollars being produced over the last few years is why I have abandoned this series totally.
They used to be a fantastic series to collect But now it is just too bloody hard to source all the new stuff.

I hope this is the right place to post this, full apologies if not.

Near Hobart today I got:

$50 bag of 2015 $2 standard coins - red 50's going around the bag.

2 x $20 bags of 2015 $1 MOR coins - yellow 20's going around the bags.

2 x $4 bags of 2015 20 cents - green 4 going around the bags.

These bags are the same style as the $2 bags of 5 we get from the RAM.

I presume these are RAM bags of UNC coins.

With the info I have given without photo's is what I am saying correct please?

Also are these worth keeping? The bags are unbroken.

As well I got a 2015 $2 remembrance day coin and 6 x 2015 $1 MOR yesterday at a bakery in the same area.

Good finds well done.

The bags aren't RAM bags of UNC coins they are security bags issued by security companies.
Different to the RAM 5 coin $2 bags of 5

The colour of the bags are a standard indication of coin denomination

5c bags are coloured BLUE and contain $2 face value
10c bags are coloured PURPLE and contain $4 face value
20c bags are coloured GREEN and contain $4 face value
50c bags are coloured ORANGE and contain $10 face value
$1 bags are coloured YELLOW and contain $20 face value
$2 bags are coloured ORANGE and contain $50 face value

Of note these bags are made of Low-density polyethylene and are not recommended for long term storage of coins simply because the thermoplastic is not inert

May be there will be more evenness in mintages between the MOR and ANZAC in 2015?

Good work Pedro!

I'm suffering from noodling withdrawal at the moment, which is probably good timing as I've got "coin dropsy" on my noodling hand after clouting my thumb side on and full swing with a hammer a week or so ago.

I've been watching the "surgery" lines slowly making their way up all my nails (see arrows). Goodness knows what is in the anaesthetic that causes this, regardless I'm glad they use it! :laugh2: So I've currently got black thumbitis and black dogbiteass.

I have never done that but did manage to hit my little toe once, with a sledge hammer. The sand shoes I was wearing didn't offer much protection. When My nail grew back it was an odd shape (and still is).

I sympathise with you.
Title: RE: 2015 Circulating Coins

All's good with it, it just hasn't got much feeling in it at the moment. (Hence the dropsy .... dropped the same coin yesterday 4 times in a row ..... wasn't a keeper anyway). I dare say the nail will come off once it grows a bit. The growth lines were mid Sept and mid/early Oct (I guess it's a bit like a tree's rings). I did notice these same lines back some years ago when I had my left eye done.

Funnily enough I was doing a small bit of paving yesterday and managed to hit it twice (square on this time) with my heavy rubber mallet. Must be still getting used to this 3D vision (after around 3 years without it). I've noticed that despite being able to see incredibly well out of my new right eye lense I still shut it automatically when I first get up and then realise what I'm doing. I dare say that habit will disappear eventually.

Can't wait to do some noodling ......... before the 2015's get too bag marked.

I must of dropped something on one of my toes months ago
so now there is a black line across the nail that is ever so slowly moving up
at about half way point now and yeah - I swear it was well over 3 months ago ... slow road to China nail growth

ha ha Pedro
only yesterday my hubby was commenting that I still have (fine) but thick hair as there was hair everywhere in the bathroom after the shampoo and blow dry.
some women who I know as they get older have thinner hair, so far I am going OK
they reckon bald men are sexier anyways

thanks for that Trout - I hadn't heard of any 2016 MOR's - nor seen the buying frenzy on facebook and those blokes are very quick to cash in on the collectors!

I got 3 x 2015 coins in change yesterday, all from one shop. :yahoo:

One each of:

$2 Elder
$1 MoR
20c.

Apart from these, the only other 2015 coins I've found are 6 x 5c.

At this rate, 2016 coins might start arriving in......................2018.  :whistle2:

What's with the Aussie 2015 $2 coin? A buddy of mine just returned from a cruise around Australia and gave me the $2 coin. The "TWO DOLLARS" on the reverse is barely visible, somewhat like a light strike. Also, the reverse design is minted over/on some words. What were/are those words?

It's a WWI poem called "In Flanders Fields''.

In Flanders fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    John McCrae (1872–1918)

That's a Mint Mark (MM), for Canberra.  Our Mint the Royal Australian Mint (RAM), sells MM coins with several different MMs which those of us with OCD just have to have, so it brings in some extra $$$'s to their coffers.

Some love 'em' others can take them or leave them. I prefer to leave them. I used to chase them, but they are sold in different locations around the country and it makes them difficult to collect them all.

I've found all of the circulating 2015 coins in Brisbane, but the ANZAC $1 and $2 coins require some serious noodling. The Remembrance Day $2 coin was plentiful late last year, but is now drying up. They're still much easier to find than the ANZAC $1 and $2, though.

The 5c and 10c are also quite scarce - especially the 10c, which was common late last year and early this year, but is now drying up as well. I used to find 4-5 in every $50 worth of 10c coins, but now I'm only finding 2-3. I keep almost every one I find because I'm expecting it to be a low mintage.

How'd you go? I've just finished noodling another batch of 10c coins, and I was surprised by the number of 2015s I found. I usually only get 3 or 4 per batch, but today, I found 11, which smashes the previous record of 8 I set back in February. This is good news, because it means they're not drying up as quickly as I thought they were. :)
