I'm working on a new, hopefully more reliable, live auction system. To test it I need heaps of people to enter the live test auction at 7pm on the 16th. To achieve this, whatever you win in the sale is yours, free!
Postage within Australia is free too though I'll need to charge for international postage ($20 for registered post).
The catalogue is here:
http://www.numisbid.com.au/Browse/?auction=1/16/2015_7:00:00_PM
To get to the live auction, click "Auction Room" on the gray bar and the "Click Here" link to enter the room.
whooot im in :)
I just thought. how does this work?
I might bid up to a million dollars on all the coins until I get them all which would be unfair to all involved. when does the auction cut out. who gets what
I am a bit confused because whilst I am happy to bid on all the items to "stress test" the system I only actually want 1 coin (the 62 ms65 sixpence)
plus I think its great to be involved in the development of numisbid so it rivals ebay and the likes.
I think that's the point .. Walter wants us to go nuts... More stress the system goes thorough better it is from testing perspective ....
bugga
i've already been outbid:fie::(:icon_cry:

Just remember not to get caught up in a bidding war or you might pay too much:angel:
I'd be concerned that a sly type of person won't honour the spirit of this test and just put in a ridiculous bid like $9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999.45. If they were so inclined they would just leave the 9 key stuck for an hour to see if the software at Walters end could handle such an unrealistic dollar amount.

Or make sure you are bidding on a
test item! I just up my bid on a real one by clicking on the wrong email. :dash1:
seriously???
I jolly well hope that I didn't do that as well

Yes. How embarrassment.
It's OK. I won't win with that bid. Actually I would love to win that coin on that bid.
For a moment I thought - woow that's one hell of a coin to give away!
what is that old saying?
if it's too good to be true then ..... maybe it is
ha ha

I believe the maximum bid is $21474836.48 (2^31/100).
To counter this, I'll remove all the pre-auction bids above $1000.
Also to give everyone a fair chance we'll limit bidders to 1 coin.
So how did everyone find the auction? There were a few small bugs I've ironed out already but in case I missed anything, anyone have any problems with it?
sorry Walter
we went out to dinner (the auction was on at dinner time) so I wasn't around
I had placed a bid earlier but pretty sure I was outbid
just checked
I was for sure outbid - my bid was $200 against the hammer price of $1026555.00 (ha ha)
am I reading that as over 1 million?
There is definitely a performance improvement.
I am sure you are aware of the prices resetting - not sure if that was a just a simple display problem for large numbers or otherwise.
From time to time, I notice the bidder list doesn't match the bidder number of new messages in chat. ??? May be the list just wasn't getting refreshed.
I believe I've fixed the bidder list problem.
The resetting I'm looking into, I haven't identified the problem yet but I've put in a few checks on possible causes so the next time it happens I'll know.
A few people broke the rules (limit 1 coin, no proxy bids above $1000) so a few of the coins are still available, which is great as we need another test auction so it's again on tonight. Same goes, limit 1 coin per user, no proxy bids above $1000, otherwise whatever you win is free.
When the bids are coming in fast and furious, it's hard to know the exact price you are bidding at.
When the price is at 100k, you click on the button thinking you are bidding on 101k. But it's going up so quickly that you end up bidding at 103k by the time your click is sent through. There used to be another dialog asking you to confirm.
The bid it takes is what's written on the button at the time you press it, if you press it at $100k but by the time it reaches the server the bidding is at $103k, then the bid is ignored.
What can happen though is when you go to press the Bid button, it changes right before you press it, this will be at most 1 bidding step. Do you think we should put the Confirm Bid button back in?
Sure. I don't know. But my personal opinion is that I prefer not be in a situation where I end up bidding more than I thought I was going to.
