Title: Online Benchmark Coin Catalogue
Post by: kchan1111 on January 06, 2015, 02:41:31 PM
There is an additional online catalog that comes with the benchmark collection from Strand Coins. Looks like it has more than just the PDF copy of the paper version. It has a price guide so more like bluesheet than anything.

Seems to be a good resource. Shows both the population from NCG and PCGS and interactive feature on where to look for for wear. $20 a year.

The catalogue has information on the penny that hasn't been published elsewhere (good) but also lots of mistakes (bad). What hasn't been published elsewhere I already knew and it is grating to see the mistakes. I'll save my $20

I read that in the plural, rather than the singular, but probably best for Neal to define what he meant.

There are master hub varieties in the Geo V penny that have been overlooked. The Benchmark Collection does cover some of this but only superficially for 1922 (probably a case of someone observing the variety but not understanding how or why it came about). It is a complex subject and hopefully by the end of this year I'll get around to finishing the final details for 3 more CAB articles.
