Good luck with it all McDuck!

(Why aren't you laying face down? ..... Perhaps you are.)

I ran around with mine detached for a few days and boy did the Doc and subsequently my Eye Specialist get me to Sydney Eye Hospital pronto where I waited an extra day because a guy came in that had private health insurance.

You've got to love the bracelet ..... "No flying or mountain climbing or my eye will explode".

The upsidedown fishtank is a real thrill to watch, ever so slowly turning into a tiny "bubble", then zip.

Fingers crossed for you on both counts (the eye and the car).

Yeah, and I love how its upside down so I can't read it.. not that my right eye is much chop, being set to infinity.

Thanks. Had 4 calls from the cops so far. They are extremely nice people, and we've had some lovely chats about a range of subjects. Now why are the ones who pull you over NEVER nice??? :(

And I'm off to lie down, trust me. The deal is, as long as I keep the bubble towards my nose at least 50% of the time, they're happy.

Gonna be tough with this shoulder though. :(

Terence Hill and Bud Spencer would have a ball with us .......

They Call Me Infinity
Infinity Is Still My Name

..... my infinity and reattached are the one and the same (left). No such thing as a straight line for me ......... it's my right that now has the cataract, so the left does everything at the moment. Which explains why I miss so many of my typos as I am (was) righteyed.

One day the right'll get done .........

bummer Fulvio
the hubby's aunt was at our place showing us her overseas trip snaps on the TV aand had some bright lights in her eye
300 kms of car trips back and forth to the country (ignoring our advice to see the local ophthalmologist at the local hospital)
she gets diagnosed with a detached retina and returns back to our town & had the surgery quickly
the recovery seems as painful as the condition

look after yourself and mend well xxx

and second bummer about the car break-in - predators are everywhere and they just love hospital car parks

I hope your recovery is without any further complications and you get well as soon as is possible, given that your particular problem takes some time to recover from.  Best wishes. :friends:

Because of stuffups on their part, it was quite a few months between my two being done. Which was not much fun. Can't wear glasses. Can't not wear glasses... So eventually we went with a contact lens, and tried setting it short to handle the reading. After a bit of experimentation, we settled on 2.5 diopters, which worked very well.

All was good until it came time to replace the lens. You can't buy one. They come in a pack, most of which would have been wasted.

Obviously it was all sorted out eventually, but I gotta say the bureaucrazy behind the medical stuff really sucks. Like how they won't put in a variable-focus lens, and how the lenses they do use are exactly the same as the ones Fred Hollows makes for five bucks, but they cost sixty times that much.

And they never gave any warnings of the likelihood of retinal tears, or what to look out for.

Ah well.... what doesn't kill ya makes ya stronger, right? ;)

Thanks guys, I'm sure that this too, shall pass. Who knows, I might even be able to noodle coins again one day. ;)

Hey McDuck, how's the eye coming along?

I was trying to put some order to my chaos and happened to find my bracelet.

I had a floater for near ten years and it's just about fixed it's self up now and it was very distracting when driving to say the least as it made me look to my left all the time as it was like there was something in my peripheral vision but when you looked over there was nothing there but better to be safe than sorry and hope never to get this as both Uni and Fulvio have said they are very painful and I find I'm becoming allergic to pain :winkextra: Fulvio said it's settled down heaps so he'll be noodling again in no time so that was really good news :good:

Hello,

I went to Sydney twice and had both eyes cut open. ( one each trip ) Done under a local. They removed the " jelly " which covers the retina. They knock you out first though.

Heh, you keep these mementos too, eh? ;)

Its all good now. Maybe slightly less sharp than it was, but I could say the same for the other one, so not related I think. And there are enough pairs of reading glasses scattered around the house in the event I need them.

All in all, I'd put it down as a good experience overall. Not that I'd recommend it, but if y'gotta go through such traumas, be thankful we live at a time when such outcomes are possible, let alone the norm.

And speaking of how things have improved, check this complaint I just posted. Not much has changed in 4,000 years when it comes to stuffups, but at least we can now complain more conveniently (if less permanently), eh?

Yes if it wasn't for the MRI I would have had to have a full lobotomy and start fishing looking for the trouble but because of it I only ended up with about a 3 inch scare down my left temple that they managed to hide pretty well behind my hairline. Only things is getting in the little tube for the MRI and not good if you claustrophobic :winkextra:
